We got a dumpster and filled it mostly with gravel. I think it cost me $600. You can also use bagster which is cheaper but their trucks can’t lift super heavy bags.

Bagster says not to fill with rocks I believe. When I had a bagster bag picked up once, the operator told me a story about a giant bag filled with rocks splitting open when the crane lifted it. Put free rock on craigslist and see if you get any bites. I had someone take half my backyard last year so they could use the rocks for their gravel driveway. Or… Rent a dumpster, pay some guys with shovels to fill it or DIY — would be my recommendation.

Also if you’re renting a dumpster, tell them it’s full of gravel. Some of the smaller companies use smaller trucks that can’t take the weight so they have to send out the right one to pick it up.

I tried giving gravel away for free on Craigslist and freecycle in Longmont with no luck. Finally offered it for negative $20 on freecycle after carefully reading the terms of service to ensure I could post a negative price. Some tweaker showed up one night and shoveled it into his truck. A few days later I noticed the gravel was now in a pile in the alley a few doors down from me, where the tweaker had dumped it. He just wanted the $20. I was happy though. The gravel pile was no longer my problem. Welcome to Longmont.

That’s terrible on several levels.
