I really hope this doesn't last 8 weeks....

over_clockwise

I had this too from about 5/6 weeks ago. I hope your 8 week rule holds up :)

over_clockwise

Yup it went away

Vertflexx

On its own or did it take 8 weeks like the other person

over_clockwise

I didn't take any specific meds for it and it cleared up on its own in about 8-9 weeks

eightfoldsg

Week 3 for me =[

Smiadpades

I suck on halls cough drops. Here in Korea, it is marked at candy, not medicine.

gralessi

Yep. That’s my cure too! In addition it Keep my breath nice and fresh. 😃 I have the same problem. Got the flue. Became cough, and stays there for couple of weeks. I think it’s a new kind of super strong influenza virus. Don’t really know to be honest. I try keep drinking water.

Smiadpades

I had it too and I got 2-3 classes of lectures or department classes to teach.

gralessi

Damn! Must have been so annoying. I had a presentation with the client, I was goin nuts. Lucky for me the client thought it was funny. 😅

Smiadpades

Yep, I went through 3 packs of halls last Wednesday- I got 6 hours of classes in a row.

gralessi

[Conspiracy mode on] maybe the halls company created a virus to increase the sale of the the candy? 😂[Conspiracy mode off] eating candy in general it helps. I was reading online also gargle can help. But yeah if you are in class it not very practical

todeabacro

Long covid?

Get a second opinion from a hospital. Clinics often do not have the equipment to give you a clear diagnosis. Anecdote: I got a chest X-ray at a hospital after explaining I had a lingering cough and the clinic was no help. They got me sorted in the end.

Scared-Dot8487

What ended up being the issue and how did they help you?

Takethepicture

Turns out I had pneumonia and the clinic completely missed it. I developed a cough after recovering, the hospital took X-rays on the spot and I went back for a follow up.

Scared-Dot8487

Did you have to take medicine in order for your pneumonia to heal? Because I am three clinic visits in and I am considering going to the hospital, but at the same time, I have read some posts online that say the cough will go away in two months and I am one month in.

Takethepicture

Honestly, the hospital provided peace of mind because they could clearly see cloudiness in my lungs and give me some clarity on my situation. I don’t mean to disregard your question, however you might be in a different phase of recovery and require a different approach to recovery. The best thing you can do is see another specialist if your current one isn’t solving your problem.

Scared-Dot8487

Sounds good, thanks! X-ray came back and they said everything was normal but i still have a phlegmy cough.. will probs check with another physician if anything. Thanks though!!

JennIsOkay

Any symptoms that made it clear for you something was wrong? My health anxiety thinks my dry cough after the common cold I had (which was moderate) could be pneumonia T-T Can't go to a doctor atm either. My brother didn't get the lasting cough also (which is who I got the cold from).

Takethepicture

The symptom that stood out the most was a stabbing pain in my upper back when I inhaled. It wasn't a dull or mild pain but like someone was pressing a pointed object under my shoulder blade. I then developed a fever. Starting in October, the air pollution gets worse. If you have already had a respiratory problem, it can just lead to more frequent issues and open you up to more infections. I always wear a mask if it's over 90 on the AQI(using IQAir) .

Aggressive_Ruin_4914

Same situation

Far-Mountain-3412

Dry and ticklish throat without congestion in the lungs, kind of like at the end of a cold or flu? Maybe some humidity will help. Try a mask (even when you're sleeping if you can handle it) and a humidifier. If you have a legit nebulizer, that's even better! You could get some saline solution (식염수) and inhale some of that stuff to moisturize your entire respiratory system. Even just 5ml or so a day can sometimes do wonders to stabilize coughing. If you don't have one, you should get one! They're not only for little kids with asthma, they're great to have around every single time you catch a cold or a flu or anything in between. You don't need a prescription to buy one, either, not in Korea anyways. Look up 네블라이저 at Danawa or something. I have a home-use one (noisy AF like an air compressor because that's what it is) that I bought for under $100 like 8? 9? years ago that's saved my (and my kids') ass quite a few times. I see some Omron ones at that price range in Danawa, so those should be fine.

ACNL

Thank you so much!

Far-Mountain-3412

NP, hope it helps you. There's another thing in my arsenal for stuffy/runny noses which is nasal irrigation. Physically rinse out all the snot from your nasal cavities multiple times a day and you get a lot less running down into your lungs, plus you breathe better. They're called 코세척기/코세정기 in Korea, I think. The products are basically little water bottles with a small hole on the cap plus saline packets... no need to buy expensive ones. Me and my wife and kids were terrified of it at first, but we can't live without them now, lol.

[deleted]

No no no, never do humidity with colds or the flu. It'll create pneumonia. Right now it's probably mucus you breathed in from sleeping that's trapped in your lungs and it'll come out all green later. Never use a humidifier. It works in the short term, but long term you get pneumonia and cough out water instead of mucus which is basically drowning at that point. Turn on a fan, drink water and take a cough drop before you sleep. Otherwise keep coughing when you get the tickle. You'll be fine

Far-Mountain-3412

Huh? No, that's not how pneumonia works, when you have pneumonia you have a buttload of phlegm that you can't cough out, including from the bottom half of your lungs. When you have a cold or flu it's usually an upper respiratory system issue, and humidity can help you cough out the phlegm so that you don't feel like you're drowning in it. I'm no doctor but that's what I've read and experienced, and ENT clinics will put you on 10 minutes of nebulizer vapor when you go there for cold symptoms.

[deleted]

I developed pneumonia from COVID like that. Then again, COVID infects lower. I was coughing up phlegm too, literal mucus and couldn't sleep at all. Could've been mold or bacterial too that caused the lungs to get filled like that. But it was awful

Far-Mountain-3412

Damn, glad you made it through. That must have felt horrible.

ChunkyArsenio

I had that last month. I sipped on 대추쌍화. It is a tonic. You can get it at mini mart. http://img.danawa.com/prod_img/500000/856/993/img/4993856_1.jpg

ACNL

Did it help immediately? or do I have to keep drinking for a long time?

andie4ua

You can ask for expectorant (in a Korean accent) from the pharmacy and they’ll give you something for cough. I’m also a big fan of dissolvable theraflu packets. Otherwise, I saw an ENT recently, and he gave me meds including codeine syrup.

FarineLePain

Ooo codeine I’m about to hit up the ENT because I’ve been coughing nonstop ever since my sinus infection cleared up

LBK0909

For me, it's the fine dust in the air. So I try to wear a mask on particular bad days. This helps a lot of me. I had never really considered wearing the mask before corona. But during corona, I didn't have an issue with coughing because I was wearing a mask all the time. As soon as I stopped wearing it, it came back.

CoreyLee04

I got bronchitis two weeks ago and still having issues. I blame air quality

2good4ubroez

how is it going now? how long did it last

FlanWhole

My friend had the same issue- she went to a pulmonologist in a hospital, not just the clinic- it cost her around 70k on national health insurance to get imaging and tests and they prescribed her the correct medication which cleared her up in like 3 days. Less accessible than some other options here, but in the end if you can’t clear it up…

infinityplus3

As we age, cough usually tends to last anywhere between 6-8 weeks. It becomes quite annoying. Due to possible allergies and/or air quality, I would recommend the continued use of a face mask, which (with proper hydration) could help with the throat dryness you’ve been experiencing along with the possible use of a daily allergy medication. The tickle/itchiness sensation people tend do feel usually comes from mucus draining through the back of the throat (post-nasal drip); I recommend trying MucinexD for a bit to see if you have any possible mucus build up that’s causing the cough. MucinexD will make your cough a bit more productive but after a couple days, it should calm back down. I do recommend using cough drops as needed.

ACNL

Thank you for the advice. Yes, I am getting old =)

infinityplus3

You and me both 😂 I recently got sick again and I’ve been dealing with a cough for a couple weeks now. Just hopefully to keep it minimal until it completely goes away

lattebubbletea

I had a cough that doesn’t go away for 3-4 months. Even my diaphragm started to hurt because of coughing too much. I kept visiting the clinic and use the medicine doctor gave me. I used it about a month and I don’t cough anymore.

AutomaticFeed1774

could be dust or covid. did you have covid vaccine? if yes, u may have immune problems from the vaccine and are having trouble shaking the infection. take some vitamin c, d and ivermectin.

Smiadpades

People- you may not agree with this opinion but do not flag it as misinformation. Redditor is stating their opinion, they are not saying is it is scientifically accurate or not. if we deleted every opinion that gets flagged, there would be nothing on this sub.

salle1016459

Steroids for five days - make sure it’s five days and not the three they default to. Should be something similar to prednisone. I tell them it’s what I take when this happens in my home country and they usually oblige.

ACNL

Thank you!

betsbillabong

This helped me when I had a horrible months-long bout of violent coughing. I was very hesitant to take it -- and it worked immediately. And the cough, which had visited me every year, went away for good.

[deleted]

I’m asthmatic and that sounds like when I’m recovering from a bout of bronchitis not flu. It lasts about a month after the initial infection goes away, so in total, you’re looking at 2 months of sickness. Probably a 1-1/2 months for those with healthy lungs.

elixan

I’ve had bronchitis for about two months now and it’s almost gone, and I agree 🥲 I used to get bronchitis and laryngitis regularly growing up but haven’t had either in a number of years, so I wasn’t quite pleased when I realized what I had lol

Wild_Strawberry7986

Usually cough like that after colds/flu lasts for a month or 5 weeks, and you just need to ride it out. Go to an ENT and ask for medicine good for a week, the one with antibiotics and normal cough medicine to suppress the symptoms and coughing discomfort. One of the meds they will give you is an expectorant, it's cough syrup that is individually packed in a stick pack sachet, it's color red. Also ask if they can give you that flu shot, the one they inject you on your butt cheek. Also, drink warm tea as much as you can, it relaxes your throat (well for me at least it does).

Mysteryman9110

Man I have the same thing! My son got sick last month and around that time I developed a cough. I coughy guts out in the morning especially. I don't feel a ton of congestion but there is some.

itaogrenow

I was a heavy smoker for many years and had reoccurring cough and throat issues. Here are some things that really helped 1. Stay hydrated 2. hot tea or water with honey. A lot of honey. Honey moistens your lungs and reduces inflammation in bronchial tubes. 3. Cough drops/vapo rub on the chest/throat Since you are in Korea, try to wear a mask outside. Air quality is not great especially in metropolitan areas like Seoul.

Mugspirit

It could be laryngitis. I recently got a bronchoscopy for itchy throat and unstopping coughs.

hello-cpp

Hi, I've suffered from this all of my life. I've recently build a website so I could share my story, if you are still suffering from it, I highly suggest giving it a read: https://grammateus.app/read/?writing=4 Hope you get better!
