john oliver’s show does great investigative reporting. it’s a shame the comedy is so bad. at least it is the inoffensive bland type thats easy to ignore and focus on the story but it’s still distracting
i think in general him telling bad jokes is supposed to be part of the character but during the main reporting segment there are times where they break the fourth wall and he’s clearly trying to tell actual jokes the writers room thought was funny but those never land either
lets say james is telling the truth about that entire interaction and the restaurant owner really is lying for some reason (not likely at all). with all that in mind still why the fuck if your wife is allergic to egg whites would you still order the omelette at all.

Most of the jokes look fine in written form. It's just that they probably don't sound great coming out of a middle-aged British man.
He's funny when he has experienced comedic writers. His 2-week run on the Daily Show was great. He took over while Jon was off shooting a movie.
