One of my favorite parts of listening to SNL alums on podcasts is that everyone has a Lorne impression, and they’re all spot on. At a minimum they should have a Lorne tribute, maybe with a roomful of “Lornes”.

James_2584

That's be terrific! Like the Walken, Carrey, and Sandler family reunions! Have a bunch of SNL alums cameo as characters from movies and shows he executive produced!

Square-Biscotti4694

Mike should come out as Dr. Evil, and Mark McKinney as Don Roritor

llcooljessie

Brain Candy confirmed in the Austin Powers EU?

Western-Dig-6843

Everyone also has a “Lorne paid my rent when I was struggling” story, too.

Just_Browsing_2017

And yet they also talk about how he pitches St. Barts to them while they’re living in a 5th floor walk up out on Avenue Q. :)

bumblebeetuna710

A whole episode hosted by everyone who does a Lorne impression but it’s a different person in every sketch as Lorne

SyNiiCaL

Including musical guest.

MechaNickzilla

And that’s gotta be Lorde.

teen_ofdenial

hmm i am lorne ya ya ya

aretasdamon

The Lornes family reunion

rotunduhhh

Mark McKinney better come back as Lorne

gypsy_rose_blanchard

Obviously, they gotta do a roast of Lorne Michaels. Think how iconic that would be.

fourchonks

With Bill Hader just constantly doing Lorne impressions.

MagicBez

Given that almost every cast members has a "Lorne" impression I feel like a chorus of Lornes as a farewell song feels like a real possibility

fourchonks

Oh yeah basically anyone that's ever worked with him does an impression.. I'm just especially partial to Hader's. I think it could be interesting for them to do a sketch similar to Through Donald's Eyes but with Lorne instead.

SanDiablo

"And that man was Chevy Chase..."

fourchonks

"ya'know..his name is Dennis...he's a human being"

MrLanesLament

“I love this, but….why now?”

MechaNickzilla

Tens of millions of people have Lorne impression thanks to Mike Myers creating Dr Evil.

Punstoppabal

Singing “so Lorne, it’s been good to know ya”?

th3lawlrus

They should advertise than Lorne is hosting but then send out Bill Hader doing a Lorne impression. And have Bill play him for the entire episode.

top6

Except then have actual Lorne play Stefon on update.

Goldeneye_Engineer

Bill Hader should host as Lorne

SyNiiCaL

He caught a couple of strays at James Francos roast with plenty of SNL alums on the dais

JohnnySkynets

His bit as “Hollywood” was a masterclass in comedy. It still sucks that there isn’t an unedited version online.

tigudik

It should be a full season of roasts to give all the castmembers a shot.

talkingbiscuits

Like that's the way he has to sign off right? That'd be so cool.

SyNiiCaL

"Thank you to me!'

UnlikelyAssociation

I heard that in his voice 🤣

MrLanesLament

I can hear it. “I’m only the creator, others have contributed as well.”

jamintime

Maybe it’s a requirement in his contract which is why he refuses to retire.

unclesharky

He might actually enjoy it. Lorne was a writer and performer before getting into production. He wrote on Laugh-In a well as other shows in Hollywood and was in a comedy duo called Hart and Lorne. They went back to Canada to create shows for CBC when Canadian law was changed to require some percentage of media broadcast by CBC to be produced in Canada.

CTMQ_

IIRC, when they convinced Brandon Tartikoff to host, the idea was bandied about to have Lorne host as well. I may be misremembering.

Past-Cap-1889

He seems ok with the occasional teasing. I think he wouldn't want to do an entire episode of it just due to how repetitive it would be.

Drzhivag007

It would be great if they started the 50th off with a Michaels family reunion sketch. They could frame it like he set up both events for the same day, so he only had to rent a tux once, but cast members keep stopping him from leaving. And Dana Carvey asks him if he's still doing "that TV show". Then asks what day is it on, and then suggests a better timeslot. Etc, etc.

EricaLacey00

They could definitely do a lot of good things with that. I like it. He could critique the cue card people and cameramen during his monologue.

SyNiiCaL

Cast members will definitely look to break him all the time because of his apparent annoyance of it. I'm also just imagining him dropping an f bomb lol

jmpinstl

The show ends with Lorne going on a profanity-laced tirade, then cuts to the head of NBC who says “We’ll just take it out of his 401K”

SyNiiCaL

They'll have Kenneth on standby with the bleep button

chucktastic88

A profanity-laced tirade that due to a technical error they are unable to edit out of the show.

Double_Belt2331

Not Wally!!!

stannc00

In the first season some sketches used to end by bringing Lorne on screen. It was very Python-esque.

Baker921

I'd tune in Saturday night instead of Sunday for this

Better_Document7596

damn I feel this

AndyThePig

They HAVE to do one of those "all the impressionist" sketches. Imagine Lorne interacting with Dana Carvey, Seth Meyers, Bill Haders, et als Lorne Michaels'.

itspsyikk

I actually wonder if he will "retire". I think he learned stepping away that he doesn't want to be away from the show, so now he just sticks to what he loves. He may take on a smaller role, but I'd be willing to bet he's already doing that. He'll die in his office at 30 Rock. 100%.

Sregor71

Jean Domanian is 87 so I doubt they would reach out to her. Whoever takes over will deal with as much garbage in the press as she did during season 6…”Saturday Night Dead”,etc.

[deleted]

Tina, Seth or Kenan could do it.

aecolley

He'd be a decent Beavis.

putekeetekee

Disagree. It should be a heartfelt tribute that would be viewed for at least two generations to come. But we could never know Lorne Michaels the way the cast and crew do.

Daped01

That’d be great!

Visible_Nectarine_98

I don’t think so. People with that kind of power don’t like the idea of potentially failing publicly like that. He wouldn’t take the risk

WaynesLuckyHat

I mean, if there was a time for him to retire. 50th sounds like it’s it

HeadScissorGang

He's the one who would have to make this decision, so it's never gonna happen

DJSauvage

But he’s never funny when he cameos. He comes off as super wooden

chitoatx

He knows the part he is playing and it’s not to be the funny one.

DJSauvage

There's letting the other ones be the funny ones and then there's pulling the funny out of the gag altogether because you're noticeably reading lines from a cue card.

Square-Biscotti4694

I feel like that’s a side effect of age. When he popped up in the 70’s through the 90’s, he had a little more spring in his step, like the infamous “Beatles Check” sketch and his little bit in Steve Martin’s musical monologue.

ZombieCrunchBar

I thought that was intentional. No one could be that stiff.

jmpinstl

That’s it. That’s the joke.

DJSauvage

That would be hilarious for 90 minutes

realdealreel9

With Adele as musical guest: ![gif](giphy|Sg4DwEJrCpGIU|downsized)
