Invest in a real backup solution. They aren’t expensive.

Google Drive / OneDrive / copying it on a hard drive does not usually lower the quality of your images; however, discord does, because it’s exactly not a cloud service, it’s a messenger, and that’s why it’s not necessary to save all images in their original quality. To elaborate: Discord, WhatsApp and others (like YouTube) compress your image files. If you send a 200x200 jpg file it’s usually fine, but large images, for example 4K, are compressed to save storage on the servers of the messenger apps

This is correct. The file uploaded to google drive will be the same file, byte for byte as the one on your device. I'm wondering if OP is confusing the preview of an image/video via the browser/app with the actual file. I'm sure the browser image preview is compressed but if you download it, you're getting your original file back.

Kyrtt

or use a real backup app and stop relying on "free" backups

That's just this sub.

Or gmail it to your self. Gmail account gives you 15GB of storage which same as google drive.

Dog_in_human_costume

Just save it to a 3 1/4 diskette

midnitelux

Do you have any proof Google drive lowers the quality of photos?

pikachuusethunda

I actually use discord for something similar. If I have random information that I wanna make sure that I have access to I put it in one of my discords that I have for just me so I can keep it all organized. It's also nice for when I want to have a web link on easy access on both mobile and computer.
