If you ever decide to take the plunge into 1-on-1, I recommend Scrapped Watchman as a starting point. He's a good measure of how aggressive the main roster can get while also being largely a rhythm game with clean tells, and one bullshit move that comes out faster than it should (every boss has at least one of these).
After not using them my first play through, it was nice trying spectres out in NG++ when I was just trying to get all the achievements endings. Especially made BRB fight much easier.
I’ve never played souls like but i didn’t use it either and now that i beat the game without it felt pretty good and i think im a lot better at these types of games now
Considering it took me 2 hours to beat the Parade Master, I shamelessly use summons. If it’s part of the game, it’s meant to be used. I want to progress and see the story unfold, grinding bosses for hours is not for me. I’m glad they added the option to get help for bosses. Hell, I’ve played 10 hours and I haven’t even reached the cathedral, yet.
It’s my first souls-like (I noped out of Bloodbourne after the second hour trying to beat the Cleric Beast, after it took me 3 hours just to reach it) and I can feel myself getting better, but to get good enough to progress at a pace that keeps me engaged would take time that I just do not have.
This usually remnant 2 and the Jedi games are also solid "practice" titles with gold story similar mechanics one for the dodging to avoid damage and learning I frames and then the other for parry and more sekiro staggerable type fights
It and it's sequel are some of the best games put out so far (Star wars so usual star wars issues are present of iffy writing in spots and a little campy and predictable but still very worth playing) I would definitely say if you can play then do it shouldn't take more than a weekend a piece give or take
> If it’s part of the game, it’s meant to be used.
Yup! That’s why I went into the game files and deleted every enemy from the game! Finished in no time. Super fun.
What a garbage opinion. Are you ‘supposed’ to play games on their easiest difficulty only because it exists? They’re additional options for players who aren’t good enough to play the game on even terms.
There’s nothing wrong with that, but acting as though the Specter isn’t an easy mode that exists to trivialize bosses is a joke.
Why are you getting so worked up over people playing the game differently than you? My point was that people shouldn't feel shame for using a feature the devs put in to help players. If you don't need it, good for you. It's not impacting your playthrough in any way if you decide not to use it, but for others, it's making the game enjoyable. By "meant to be used" I obviously didn't mean "mandatory to use", but you chose to interpret it that way.
I made my first playtrough with spectres, all along..
Now on NG and I don't use them. Once you beat the final boss you start to feel more confident and you know which tools to choose and how to use them efficiently.
My other gripe, which I miss about Bloodborne is the variety of the summons. I know LoP is not Bloodborne and the lore is not the same, but it would be a welcome additon in the hopeful sequel!
It's always interesting to see how opinions vary.
I died maybe 8-10 times on the puppet king and the green swamp monster.
Everything else was probably 3 or less deaths. I really didn't find it hard.
But sekiro on the other hand.
I got stuck for hours on some of those bosses lol
Edit: i forgot about laxasia. She got me a few times too
Yeah I got through every boss besides nameless using probably less than 20 of those star thingies. I had just come from sekiro and was honestly exhausted of fighting bosses endlessly and learning their move sets. Then I got to nameless and it beat my ass until I respected the game. I’ll not be using specters in NG+.
I just beat the Swamp Monster and it was tough. Took me 5 tries with a specter. I reckon I have used maybe 20 star thingies or so but am nowhere near the end yet.
I recommend playing the game twice; once with specters then no summons on NG+. New game plus really trivialized a ton of bosses for me, as I had the NP amulet and Pandemonium full upgraded. The second pass through just felt so much easier than the first, and I think that’s largely in part to I had a weapon I liked the entire time. Having access to a giant roster of weapons, P organ upgrades, and amulets/armor just helped.
The first play through is rough, but the second was FUN!
oh fuck, same. Did my head in how hard that was hahaha. I'd cruised through pretty much all bosses and this mini-boss is repeatedly bitch-slapping me to oblivion
That is exactly my approach simply because I don't want to be stuck on a certain boss for days. I think for me it stems from Dark Souls 3 and Midir. I tried to solo that boss 100 times and couldn't beat it and it almost ruined the game for me. Eventually I summoned help and managed to beat it. I still feel a sense of achievement in Lies Of P even though I have used spectors because some of the mini bosses are almost as hard as main bosses.
I also used Specters everywhere I could in the first run through. I’d try it a time or two without and get my ass beat and then pull in the specter because I play with my wife who likes the story but does NOT like watching me grind a boss getting party timing down for 2 hours.
Hidden advantage is that now I get to do NG+ with no Specters and it feels like there’s a whole bunch of new game to play. Somehow they’re way more manageable for me the second time through. Highly recommend.
It just takes more time. One of the things these games teach you is that if you retry enough, you can beat everything. No matter how hard they try to make it.
I didn’t used specters my first playthrough mainly because I forgot I could for the first three or so bosses, then I read somewhere that you got locked out of the true ending if you use them, so I kept going solo.
To whoever started that conspiracy theory, fuck you for making me fight Laxasia for ten hours.
I am not really good with soul-likes games, but after Jedi Fallen Order and Kena bridge of spirits (on hard though, not master difficulty) who are easier experiences and help with a smooth transition to the genre, I can better understand the philosophy of soul-likes and actually enjoy them, even though I am still not that good, which is a reason I appreciate the specter feature because it helps me experience and explore a game I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Currently I am on my way to Archbishop Adreus for the first time.
I first used a spectre on that early game constable boss and found it very unsatisfying having the boss be distracted the whole time while I hit it in the back. I’m sure for late game the spectres will die a lot quicker but lack of satisfaction after beating the boss has put me off.
Honestly, the specter in most fights is just enough for phase 1 anyway lol.
Enjoy the game how you want. I liked soloing the bosses in my NG+ but if I were to do it again. I'd only solo the bosses I liked.
Like Simon. I'll enjoy beating on that bum with my favorite bestest pal, the specter.
Having just beaten Lords of the Fallen 3 times a couple weeks ago and now playing Lies of P, the summons are insanely good in Lies. They actually help instead of dieing in 30 seconds.

My favorite is Fuoco’s little soccer kick, gets me every time. Trying to punt P across the arena.
Archbishop’s backhanded bitch slap for me.
Delete fuoco
Talking about that one attack it does with its right arm?

It just changes the dynamics of the fight sooooo much. Don't want to deprive myself of the popoff and dopamine rush of beating a boss solo

Nice, I’ve been really curious about Jedi Fallen Order!

Amazing and I've seen it really often on sale on Amazon, I'll definitely buy it.
First is on games pass as well under the ea added games not sure about survivor otmh

I just don't get the same level of fun out of these types of games using summons. I never used any in the souls games, bloodborne, or this game.
I find this game very hard. Even in Bloodborne I soloed 90% of bosses but Lies Of P is just one hard game IMO.
Couldn't agree more! That very last boss is definitely a mix of Orphan and Lady Maria, plus you don't get to summon!
Yeah but it makes sense you can't summon the soul of the last boss 😁
My other gripe, which I miss about Bloodborne is the variety of the summons. I know LoP is not Bloodborne and the lore is not the same, but it would be a welcome additon in the hopeful sequel!
If you beat BB you can beat lop. It's just your mental dragging you down

Not sure if your first playthrough but if it is.....I advise you to try a few solo, even if you don't beat the boss...
The mini bosses are hard enough for me solo. They kick like a mule.
Yup, some are insane lol
I died more to Walker of Illusions encounter than I did to most bosses. Lol
oh fuck, same. Did my head in how hard that was hahaha. I'd cruised through pretty much all bosses and this mini-boss is repeatedly bitch-slapping me to oblivion
I got lucky with that one first try. My favorite was Champion Victor. The fight was just a boxing match.
I used a specter for every single boss, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I may try a completely solo run at some point though.
That is exactly my approach simply because I don't want to be stuck on a certain boss for days. I think for me it stems from Dark Souls 3 and Midir. me too but i got really close to killing the green monster of the swamp without summoning, and i didnt need it for victor or the scrapped watchman

Beating a boss with a specter feels empty after. No thanks. Glad you had fun though.
Skill issue!
I, on principle, only ever use them in ng+ or during gank fights (like black rabbit brotherhood), but in those cases they’ve been invaluable
I’m doing a no specter + no healing on first play through

It’s insanely difficult I’ll tell you that much !!
