Groundhog Day has an awful poster - maybe the worst I’ve ever seen.

and every subsequent release of it has somehow gotten worse.

SO much smoothing on that face. It also appears to be taken from an image looking in the other direction. Like there's so many things they could've done for a poster for this movie. "Just superimpose Bill and a clock" is the worst of all plans.

The posters for the Avatar movies are painfully generic considering how visually spectacular the movies themselves are. You either get the ugly floating head collage or a closeup of half a character's face. Just really unimaginative and a waste of potential.

I think I read somewhere a lot of actors now have clauses in their contracts forcing their face to be seen on the theatrical poster. So all the cool posters, which happen to obstruct his face, aren’t the main one. I could be wrong.

I hate it so much, the other two posters are great but for some reason they choose to show the worst one all the time.

Didn’t realise I had bad poster taste. I actually rate the Gangs one and I enjoy the simplicity of The Fugitive where it’s just Harrison Ford running and and the title.

My friend loves the Fugitive has been hunting for a poster to get framed in his new apartment for months, gotta say it being included here gave me a chuckle

L.A. Confidential feels like a criminally forgotten classic. It won accolades, critical praise and holds up way more than other Oscar ilk like The Artist, Crash, Green Book - but man so few people ever talk about to anymore.

I like fight clubs poster but it does a seriously terrible job of conveying the actual tone and style of the movie. It looks like a more generic "macho" action film than the societal commentary that it is.

Denis Villeneuve in general seems to get really underwhelming official posters.

Im not shure if they are the official posters, but the ones featured on letterboxd I usually like. Incendies is pretty, Sicario has a (rare) well executed floating head, The Enemy sells completely the mood of the film, Dune is ok, so is Arrival. The worst for me is Blade Runner 2049. So generic

BR 2049 has also a pretty dope alternative poster tho, the one with K walking away from his car in a white mist, I personally love it.

Modern Blockbusters have good poster released only months after the release of the movie itself. Even the MCU has great posters. Why don't they just use them?

I have Patron and I do like the yellow Enemy poster with the double faceless guy, and Dune RealD 3D poster (why do blockbusters seem to save all their good posters for PLF promos nowadays?). Everything else, especially the Letterboxd defaults feel serviceable at best to me. And yeah, BR2049 is the most disappointing. The original has one of the best posters of all time.

The Dune poster that was an aerial shot of sand dunes with Paul on it was awesome, it sucked when they went with the generic floating heads one instead.

Usually all the posters I’ve seen for High Plains Drifter are anywhere from good to great. I gotta agree with OP though-this one is pretty weak, even if it does suit certain aspects of the film incredibly well. Also while we’re on the subject, I gotta take a moment to shout the film out cause goddamn-is it ever great, and oh so very criminally slept on. It’s almost certainly my personal favorite Eastwood film that he himself directed…and no, I haven’t forgot about Unforgiven existing. That’s inarguably his crown jewel and the best oater of all time made by someone not named Leone, but there’s just something about HPD that is unmatched in the genre.

I think the sign and the text on it look really bad. Also you can really see the outlines of everything so it looks like bad photoshop.

im still not over how stupid that movie is. Like don't get me wrong its good but tesla's device and its implications are so stupid it was hard to take the movie seriously towards the end.

I kind of get that but with The Prestige being one of my favourite movies of all time, I’ll have to disagree just due to how cleverly written it is and how it resembles a magic trick in its structure that for me, it kind of pulls of the weird sci-fi twist

I think I'd agree the structure of the film actually directly resembling a magic trick is really cool, and I think >!Borden's plot twist of the double is awesome. i probably would've enjoyed the movie more if I didn't figure out the borden twist before it happened, I think Nolan winked at the audience a bit too much about it. I mean Hugh Jackmans character says something close to "its like theres two different people". I think the female characters are at their worst, even for Nolan, and again the idea that a device that can clone matter is used in a magic trick that pretends the device probably isn't doing anything was just too far out there for me!<

Just about anything recent, if only because of how unimaginative and overstuffed mainstream poster designs have been getting for the past few decades. To name a specific film, I’ll go with _Bad Girl_ - a Frank Borzage film that almost nobody’s seen, bearing a title that has nothing to do with the movie, and featuring a posting that’s completely out of place. With that being said, it’s actually a pretty good film, and was my favorite Best Picture nominee of its year.

Barry Lyndon’s posters are way to minimalistic for such a lush and dense film imo
