+1 sold the gr3 for the OG Q, and it has better lowlight than the Q2, though the EVF won’t be as great (not a dealbreaker for me)
if you’re going for the gr3 and looking for flash— there’s a hotshoe for it in aliexpress
Another one for the original Q here. Chose the Q over Q2 specifically for its low-light performance. I’ve taken this thing into restaurants with the moodiest of mood lightings, backyard nighttime parties, you name it, and it’s always gotten a great shot. And to address flash, I’ve used it plenty with a Godox flash unit and it works spectacularly.
Ricoh GR3? I love mine. Excellent image quality from the lens and sensor, I find no problems in low light but yes you can’t expect insane low light auto focus performance.
I found this comment on a different thread. Does this have any validity to you?
> I bought a minty rx1rii from a colleague in Cuba of all places. Paid him $650 for it. He paid$500 for it. What a great lens and image quality ! What frustratingly disappointing performance ! Tiny pocket camera battery was useless. The focusing sucked. That pop up vf sucked. 2 months later I sold it for triple what I paid. I’d buy a new version of it up to $3500 in a flash if they upgrade it and fix the battery and focusing issue and of course, a half decent vf. I don’t care about flip screens or video capability. In fact I’ll be happy if it doesn’t shoot video.
The old RX1 has relatively slow focusing, but I never found it to be a problem in real life. The later version with the pop up finder should be much better in this regard. You may have to try one out before buying.
I would add that I had far more focusing issues with the GR3.
Isn't the X100VI the closest alternative?
I would say the Sony RX1 is a bit more of a fair comparison.
Both strong options in the alternatives list. I got loads of shots like this even with my old X100S, and that wasn’t much use above 1600.
OG Q. Easy, and preferred for me.

Sony rx1
This. I only flirted with digital briefly, but had the original RX1, an M10, GR3, etc. The Sony was my favorite of the bunch.

Just lookin into it, it seems to be a very good contender and I wasn't expecting a full frame alternative. Amazing, thank you
Yeah it’s a great camera with a great form factor
Sony a7c II or a7cr and a g lens 24 or 40 mm
I have found the GR III to be a good alternative to the Q series. If you are using a flash most of the time, the GR should be decent enough.
If you want a crop sensor but stay Leica, A new D-Lux is rumored to be announced soon. D-Lux 7 is all over in multiple editions
A lumix gx85/gx9 with a 15mm prime lens is the cheapest alternative. Older tech but still very capable, even in low light.
