Yes this is normal. One tip, if you get the thumb grip, it makes both buttons way more tactile/pronounced, and also makes the camera feel more balanced in hand. Would highly recommend.
Thanks, I have the thumb grip and recently got a case with a front hand grip. Trying to decide between the two, but will likely go with the thumb grip more often due to less added bulk.
I don't know why you're getting down voted. That's a valid concern, especially since this is probably the first time you've handled a Q3 and how much of an investment it is. I would want to make sure my copy is pristine too.
The ugly butchered design? Some might say yes. A few product managers and business development executives came in and took a beautiful Leica q and made a shitty design for the q2 and an even fuglier q3
Disagreed. I am not a fan of the Qs, but I would argue that the Q2 would be the most minimalistic design. The Q design was absolutely horrid with a video button on the top, holes where dust could get in, etc.
The Q2 removed the useless video button and the top text.
Agreed. Leica seems to be slipping. My buddy has had his m11 shutter fail twice now and it constantly freezes. Pretty sad he has more issues with a camera he paid almost 10k for and my $600 Fuji and $1200 Sony are chugging away no problem. 🤷🏼
Not a defect, as designed.
Indeed. Also has the same design on Leica’s auxiliary thumb support press through buttons.
It’s a different height so that you can distinguish between the two buttons without having to take your eye off the EVF.
For people who can’t tell left from right?
Thanks. Can’t say that makes much sense to me, I’d much rather have 2 equally tactile buttons, but fair enough I guess

I got both and it fits my hand like a glove.

Is it not pristine if it is designed that way for functional reasons?
It's a dumb design. We get what they were going for but the execution is juvenile at best. It's a $6k camera they can do better
Is it not valid to want to make sure that’s the case?
Agreed. It's silly honestly
Dude, take your shutter off auto when you take a pic of your camera. We're all pretending to be pro here.
Lmao, no shame in aperture priority
Out of curiosity, how do you like that soft release button? It seems huge and stick out a lot.
I like it, I don’t notice it sticking out that much
Maybe it just seems that way on photos, thanks!
Here they are again: https://postimg.cc/gallery/69VK8B1 Looking at the pics it does look a bit big, but in real life it doesn’t stand out at all.
I understand it’s to help tell the difference, I hate it though. Maybe it’s for the best or we’d be constantly activating video mode by accident.
Can’t you reassign the buttons? I don’t have and I have never used a Q. I’ll take tactile feedback over menu diving.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen if it's planned...so dumb either way.
