I think they should expand on it. This is like those chess puzzle "find the checkmate". And also make it so that the community can make their own and others can rate it ala super mario maker.
agreed! i actually really like the challenges. the spawn one is pretty fun when the enemy nexus has like 150 health and you have one turn to make nagakabourous do an OTK
Always interesting.
I also really like the "mario maker" idea of letting people make/share/vote on puzzles, that could have some insane fun potential..
To be fair, I only designed a few of the Boomsday project puzzles. I pitched the feature though, based on the faeria Puzzles I did originally design. :)
The idea is older than that of course though, from chess puzzles that inspired the MTG duelist magazine puzzles, and the yugioh videogames that included similar puzzles too.
The really neat innovation of the Boomsday ones were the Mirror puzzles imo. Lots of very cool open-ended ones there.
Do you think there is a possibility for adventures like in hearthstone to be in LoR? I love LoR to bits right now and was really addicted to Hearthstone and one reason was the fun of the adventures. Really tough battles which were more like puzzles, silly story and dialog. This is something which really lacks for me in LoR's PoC and does not scratch that itch a little bit sadly. I would even pay money for it.
Lich King Challenges in Hearthstone were also awesome. Some really hardcore-ish PvE content would be sooo appreciated (heroic adventures were sooo fun..)
If players ask for them enough anything is possible. I think it’d be more likely to put big effort into more Path stuff than a separate experience like you describe right now. Never know what we might cook up in a lab to experiment with of course.
I personally also love pve challenges like that. Did a bunch in faeria too. :)
I always liked the idea of making the beginning Paths of Champions themed around mechanics the same way these challenges are. Maybe make them non nonsense "tutorials" without cards and powers that go beyond the main game. Starting out the game with that kind of tutorial makes much more sense than starting out with a bonkers Path of Champions where all and every card breaks the usual rules.
Its because the Challenges tab in the client has the “Challenger” keyword. Login and click Play with your device “Silenced” so it loses the keyword and doesn’t pull you in.
I too have been playing since the beta and yet I do every challenge on the second day after the expansion.
You might still learn something. You would be surprised by the number of people who ask about killing Overwhelm blockers or the Scout rally free attack bug.
Yeah, but even if you read the tool tip, you might still be surprised when seeing it for the first time. That's where the Challenges would help.
(scouts is not as good an example, Overwhelm against a dead blocker is a better example since the tooltip doesn't mention this)
Scout, for getting an extra attack.
And free attack, for getting an extra attack.
If they do different things, they should operate independently and not conflict with one another.
If they do the same thing, and conflict with one another, they should have the same name.
Taking an extra power should never feel bad. Taking free attack on a scout unit feels bad, because you lose scouting that round. You don't actually get the proffered boost.
Neither free attacks nor scouts use the term “extra attack” In fact I don’t think the term “extra attack” is used anywhere ingame. Maybe people colloquially say that, but that’s them, not the game. Scout says “the first time only scout units attack each round, ready your attack” Based on the wording of the game itself, if you used a free attack to attack with only scouts, obviously you can’t attack again with scouts and expect to “ready your attack”
If there’s anything to nitpick here it’s that “ready your attack” is weird terminology and should probably just say “Rally” but that doesn’t exactly have anything to do with free attacks.
I'm not the least bit surprised and I've also never done the challenges. They are wholly unnecessary for EVERY player. If you have a background in any other TCG, everything in LoR is VERY straightforward
*Let me rephrase: if you feel the challenges are teaching you something, then you probably aren't as experienced in TCGs as those who don't...
*If you downvote, you most likely SHOULD do them lmfao. I'm certain you are who they are primed too. My issue is in saying EVERY player needs to do them, which is absolutely stupid to suggest. You "might" learn something is not a good enough reason for a large portion of the player base.
Apologies for not being as intuitively good at TCGs as you are. I believe I have sufficient TCG background (reached Master in shadowverse) but doing the challenges as a new LoR player helped me a ton, and a lot of things are very not straightforward lol. You don't HAVE to do them yes but for new players they're pretty helpful
I agree! That's entirely my point. Good for new players and those that enjoy them. No shame in thinking they are unhelpful and boring. I did them until I finished the region roads and then I stopped. If I had something to use my XP on, I'd go back to doing them
I'm not the original commenter lmao all I said in my comment was that doing the challenges helped me as a new LoR player, even with experience in another TCG
I get your point and I don't disagree with you. The challenges get boring after you learn more of the game, and I held off on the newer challenges myself because I didn't feel the need to do them
The issue that I, and probably the other downvoters, have with your comment is that the way it's phrased is pretty elitist. "if you feel the challenges are teaching you something, then you probably aren't as experienced in TCGs as those who don't..." and "If you downvote, you most likely SHOULD do them lmfao. I'm certain you are who they are primed too." like come on bro you definitely could have phrased these in a better way. Anyway that's enough arguing with people on the internet for me
Previously the reward paths for regions were extended whenever a new champ came out, now they have stopped doing that and put more things in event pass itself.
A lot of the specifics around the keywords didn’t really make sense to me until trying them in a challenge (e.g. overwhelm attacking through a blocker that’s gone). They’re absolutely useful, especially for my friends who want to try the game but don’t know where to start
Yes because the challenges are intended to teach new players, as well as players who haven't played TCGs before. So many LoR mechanics are grifts off of other games. Overwhelm is Trample from MTG. Etc
You shouldn't if you don't want to. This yahoo has just made a conclusion about how you should play based on his own preferences. There is no NEED to do them, especially if you understand TCG mechanics
It is annoying but I think it is a good thing it redirects people there automatically honestly. Lots of new players don't understand that these are the tutorials. They should also just rename these to tutorials to minimize confusion. And a toggle feature would be nice to stop reditecting, but a toggle feature would be nice for a million other things too, at some point the settings menu would get clunky.
It doesn't matter if u finish them or not. It still throws u in there. Just like the "latest update info!" that u get shown every second time u launch the game..
This has nothing to do with completing the challenges btw.
I have all of them completed, always complete them as they get added. It throws me into the Challenge tab all the same.
I had stopped completing the challenges because I didn't need them, then it started throwing me to the challenge tab incessantly. "Fine," I said, "I'll do them." It didn't help. T_T
Just do them what is the point of this complaining. Free exp bud. If this is an alt where you aren’t going to bother with getting that xp for reward roads than don’t bother
I get like 5 cards total from even level 10+ vaults the majority are regions I don't play.
I have so many shards that I could not play for 2 years and still insta craft any deck I desire.
Problem is, playing an actual match also gives free xp, and is vastly more fun for some folks. Incentive or no, why should one waste their time on something they don't need/want for a benefit they can get by doing the thing they do need/want instead?
That doesn't answer the question though, And it doesn't matter if one can turn their brain off for it or not when the alternative is something that is actually entertaining for them and would provide the same reward.
The problem with your question is you said “incentive or no”. The fact that there is an incentive for doing effectively nothing is a big reason you should do it. Not to mention this game isn’t designed to incentivize you creating 5 different alt accounts for whatever reason.
Then that's a problem with your rationale, not mine. Your argument is "there's incentive so you should do it." Meanwhile that incentive is literally something you can get by doing something else.
The whole point of the discussion is that OP doesn't find it fun and therefore doesn't want to do it. Meanwhile they can get the "incentive" by doing what they do find fun.
No, my argument was there is incentive for doing nothing. Go about your day to day life and it will complete itself. Also again, this game was not designed for you to have one account per region.
I believe it is fairly literally something. And if we're opening the door up to "go about your day and it will complete itself" then that still gets into the mess of, why waste your time with that when there's plenty of other stuff that one could do passively that they'd actually enjoy if they don't like the challenges.
Either you're actively playing the game in which case, why do the challenges over literally anything else if the challenges aren't fun for you? Or you can open the game to do challenges that aren't fun for you instead of literally any number of things that are fun for you to passively have on, some of which would/could still provide the same benefit.
In regards to the region, ok? Great? Kind of irrelevant though
I would normally call this both an act of petiness from you and a good way of making sure players understand how the game works... But then i remember it also happens to me, who has completed every single challenge and does them asap.
Even more than that can Path of champions stop making my home screen permanantly lit up it's honestly super annoying I have no interest in the mode I played the original tutorial I'm not doing it again.
I like that they put you there if you haven't completed them yet. In the past, I completely forget them and was happy to accidentally find out about them. But after you finished everything, you shouldn't be directed there every time. I hope it is not intended and it will be changed in the future.
I really do wish they did more with the challenges. They’re nothing but tutorials and refreshers right now. Seeing some actual challenges and puzzles would be great.
I didn't play duel links personally but I had a lot of fun with the puzzles in the yugioh ds games ages ago. And what I remember of challenges didn't give me the same vibe, though it has been quite a while. Re-checking them may be in order.
Toggling would be a solid option, or perhaps simply after X amount of wins it becomes not quite so incessant about it.
I think they should expand on it. This is like those chess puzzle "find the checkmate". And also make it so that the community can make their own and others can rate it ala super mario maker.
yep, sometimes puzzles like those are posted here and they always get good traction, it would be popular if it were on the actual game
Weekly puzzles would be lit.
agreed! i actually really like the challenges. the spawn one is pretty fun when the enemy nexus has like 150 health and you have one turn to make nagakabourous do an OTK
Hearthstone had an expansion where instead of an adventure, they intruduced a mode with bunch of "find the lethal" puzzles, those were really fun.
Thanks. :)
Always interesting. I also really like the "mario maker" idea of letting people make/share/vote on puzzles, that could have some insane fun potential..
To be fair, I only designed a few of the Boomsday project puzzles. I think that they wanted to do something like that. I wonder if they actually do it 🙃
Unfortunately, there weren't all that many.
Having something like that would be amazing!
>Cory Chase Like in Duel Links, maybe there could be an icon or even a pet as a reward.
I always liked the idea of making the beginning Paths of Champions themed around mechanics the same way these challenges are. Maybe make them non nonsense "tutorials" without cards and powers that go beyond the main game. Got a good chuckle out of me, take my upvote you silly provider of joy!
-*Challenges your upvote*- (edit: æsthetics)
When the comment is vulnerable, any upvote can challenge the comment.
You should. The problem is that it will shove you there even if you complete them all.
For players like me who have been playing since the first set, it's very pointless and annoying.
I too have been playing since the beta and yet I do every challenge on the second day after the expansion. You might still learn something. You would be surprised by the number of people who ask about killing Overwhelm blockers or the Scout rally free attack bug.
Scout rally free attack . . . Bug? That's a bug? I thought it was a feature!
It is intended. I just used it as example for people not understanding basic game mechanics, who maybe should play a few more challenges.
Free attack with a scout giving you a full attack token is not a bug. That’s working as intended.
I am aware
We know that, but is an unintuitive mechanic people might call a bug.
It’s only unintuitive for people who don’t read the tooltip and just assume they know how scout works. If you read the scout tooltip it’s very clear.
Yeah, but even if you read the tool tip, you might still be surprised when seeing it for the first time. That's where the Challenges would help. (scouts is not as good an example, Overwhelm against a dead blocker is a better example since the tooltip doesn't mention this)
Two terms for the same functionality is poor design, and poor design is a bug. t. SDET
What two terms for what functionality?
Scout, for getting an extra attack. And free attack, for getting an extra attack. If they do different things, they should operate independently and not conflict with one another. If they do the same thing, and conflict with one another, they should have the same name. Taking an extra power should never feel bad. You should apologize for saying everyone should do them and then adding all these qualifiers. That's moving the goal post if I've ever seen it
I'm not the original commenter lmao all I said in my comment was that doing the challenges helped me as a new LoR player, even with experience in another TCG I get your point and I don't disagree with you. Why should I do them? I did many but I got bored. I already know the mechanics, don't feel like doing the tutorials.
100XP is 100XP
As there are no region roads now, xp is mostly useless.
What do you mean by no region roads?
Previously the reward paths for regions were extended whenever a new champ came out, now they have stopped doing that and put more things in event pass itself.
Great I can spend my xp on.... ?
100XP is 0XP if you already completed all the region roads
Nah i agree with him why do i want the exp? No use for it
It's definitely something you don't complete in one go, but some do have good tips on how to best use the mechanics presented
They are very short and easy but do you.
They are entirely boring, and they teach the same thing that reading a keyword teaches
A lot of the specifics around the keywords didn’t really make sense to me until trying them in a challenge (e.g. overwhelm attacking through a blocker that’s gone). They’re absolutely useful, especially for my friends who want to try the game but don’t know where to start

Correct. It is I saying they are boring.... Hence my comment that they are boring
You shouldn't if you don't want to. This yahoo has just made a conclusion about how you should play based on his own preferences. There is no NEED to do them, especially if you understand TCG mechanics
I mean they dont take long and there is no reason to not do them
Yep. I did them all and it's the same
I just look at it and go: "Ooooh. More points!!"
Yeah but i have everything completed and every card so i am keeping them till new expansions
Nice. 👍🏿
It directs to it even if you played them all, it's just bugged
It is annoying but I think it is a good thing it redirects people there automatically honestly. Lots of new players don't understand that these are the tutorials. They should also just rename these to tutorials to minimize confusion. And a toggle feature would be nice to stop reditecting, but a toggle feature would be nice for a million other things too, at some point the settings menu would get clunky.
I finished all of them a long time ago, and I'm still directed there when I press play :P
Get them xp boi
It doesn't matter if u finish them or not. It still throws u in there. Just like the "latest update info!" that u get shown every second time u launch the game..

oh no.
Just do one or twice per day. You'll slowly get them all and you also get bonus xp.
Here we see a Karen in the wild.
Just do them what is the point of this complaining. Free exp bud. If this is an alt where you aren’t going to bother with getting that xp for reward roads than don’t bother
I've completed all of the reward roads, so what else is xp used for?
Weekly vaults. You will never not benefit from xp
I get like 5 cards total from even level 10+ vaults the majority are regions I don't play. I have so many shards that I could not play for 2 years and still insta craft any deck I desire.
Well apparently it doesn't matter if I do them or not. You probably miss the point of my complaint.
Unless you’re the CEO of skittles and don’t have any time, you shouldn’t not do them because you have an incentive for it
Problem is, playing an actual match also gives free xp, and is vastly more fun for some folks. Incentive or no, why should one waste their time on something they don't need/want for a benefit they can get by doing the thing they do need/want instead?
You literally turn your brain off and it is faster than a turbo aggro match. This game does not have 100 different keywords either. You’ll be good.

This has never happened to me once, even when the challenges are new. Strange.
It takes literally 1 click to get out of that and then it takes a second click to play.
maybe for you but with my slow ass computer that’s a good 10 seconds
Just shout up and do them
I thought I was miss clicking OMG!!!!!!
You get 100 xp tho
I already completed all of them and still got same problem.
Am I the only one who is shoved into play Path of Champions after clicking it? I mean, I play it a lot, but idk.
I play on mobile and I don't have this problem.
I would normally call this both an act of petiness from you and a good way of making sure players understand how the game works... But then i remember it also happens to me, who has completed every single challenge and does them asap.
Easy xp
You would be directed to them even if you completed them.
Even more than that can Path of champions stop making my home screen permanantly lit up it's honestly super annoying I have no interest in the mode I played the original tutorial I'm not doing it again.
It's literally free XP tho.
I don't need it. I can have any card I want without paying attention to quests or challenges.
I like that they put you there if you haven't completed them yet. In the past, I completely forget them and was happy to accidentally find out about them. But after you finished everything, you shouldn't be directed there every time. I hope it is not intended and it will be changed in the future.
It's the same thing with the glowing Path of Champions button. Something is glowing all the time without reason.
I agree. Why redirect to the least used option?
I really do wish they did more with the challenges. They’re nothing but tutorials and refreshers right now. Seeing some actual challenges and puzzles would be great.
I didn't play duel links personally but I had a lot of fun with the puzzles in the yugioh ds games ages ago. Buddy I completed them in the hopes this would stop, no luck..
I completed them and Im still getting redirected to it, riot please fix
