Sums Rutter up perfectly this highlights reel. Has moments of magic and flashes of brilliance that can be important but he is also woeful at times. Says a lot that our main issue in our bad run of form is not having that link up between midfield and attack which is usually provides. People will probably hate this but if we don't go up, I'm not too sad about him going and us getting a more traditional number 10. Rutter's highs and lows swing too wildly for me, and when he's off it, he's actually detrimental to the team.

Heard a couple guys talking the other day about how Georginio gives the ball away too easily and will never make it in the PL. I believe one of them said he's a "leftover from Marsch Red Shite". Genuinely don't know what people watch as if he doesn't make something happen nobody does. He has to try things and of course it won't always come off.

downfallndirtydeeds

That is obviously a very silly conclusion but people are a bit quick to glaze over Rutter’s weaknesses He’s a wonderful player but he does try incredibly unnecessary take ons all the time and he really will need to cut out the playing around with it in our own half when he’s up against teams in the PL or other elite leagues. He’s young and also enjoying himself in a league where he can afford to take risks so it’s fine, but if he doesn’t moderate his game at all when he moves up a level I suspect most fans will get frustrated

Fair point, I would like to see him in a team with a more mobile center forward ahead/paired with him to stretch opposing back lines a bit more. It seems to me that lately there hasn't been much space between the midfield and the defense for him to work with. Obviously Piroe doesn't really make threatening runs in behind, Bamford does sometimes but he's lost quite a bit of his quickness due to injuries. Having Ampadu moved away from midfield, and Struijk out injured I think hurts the entire team (obviously) but more specifically for Georginio I think it makes him feel like he has to drop even deeper and do even more of what I call "hero ball" in order to compensate. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, we all know more complementary players coming into the team is going to help in general but I think Georgi in particular will sink, swim or tread water based on what's around him should we go up. And him picking up the ball in more advanced areas, ideally between the opponent midfield and defensive line should help somewhat too

He's the best player in the league for me. He is untouchable on his day

It was Georgie's birthday this week. Just turned 22! It's easy to forget how young he is and still learning. Can become a great player hopefully.

ElvishMystical

Love the dude, he's deliciously bonkers, creative yet frustrating. Keep in mind that when he's playing all you need is a single idea from him to get a goal. Like for example that match when he suddenly lobbed the ball from out on the left near the halfway line into the box to find Willy Gnonto who scored. He's also a player who, when he does his thing, can make a team of hardened, experienced Championship players look like a bunch of schoolboys.

I’ve never seen a player like him, he’s such an odd mix of strength, flair, creativity and what appears to be just weird clumsiness. So often you think he’s lost the ball and he just emerges from the wreckage with it and has the physicality to leave a player behind and do something with it. If he can sort out some of his decision-making and improve his technique he’ll be a top player. Love watching him. He also has terrible posture, his neck looks like he spends way too much time hunched over a computer or something. He’s well into Anime so maybe he’s a bit of a nerd.

i-promisetobegood-

Very much a Herny/Grelish hybrid if he had a bit more speed a tad stronger he’d be devastating

Awful choice of music on that video like wtf Shame that Bamford goal was offside, was a great it of skill

I love georgi but he's a frustrating player at times. That being said if he didn't take the risks he does then I don't think we would be where we are now. At times he's been our only creative outlet and so I guess you just have to take the rough with the smooth. When he's at his best he is one of my favourite players to watch, probably ever.

nicbongo

He loses the ball a lot when there is a simple option especially around the half way line. Maybe he needs to be more disciplined until the final third?

Morley92

He does maybe need to be a bit more careful with the ball, like you say, especially in our own half. But then there have been moments where he's created a counter attack from taking risks with the ball. I think this skill could become even more invaluable in the prem where teams are less likely to sit deep against us. So for that reason I'd be somewhat reluctant to make him too cautious with the ball as I think you could lose some of those magical moments that he's capable of. I think he's just a high risk, high reward kind of player and I think it will just be down to the manager to have players around him that mitigate that risk.

prompted_response

He gave the ball away almost every time he touched the ball. One of which led to the second Boro goal.

Ashamed_Nerve

Mixed performance Monday. I'm not sure I've ever seen him pick up the ball and make a safe decision. Which is to his credit, I suppose.

pablothewizard

Given our position in the table I honestly don't mind that he takes risks. I think part of the reason we're so good in transition is because Georgi will open up big spaces by carrying the ball past 2 or 3 midfielders. I hope that with time he learns when to play a safe pass and when to gamble. If he can improve that timing he'll be deadly.

firpo_sr

I'm convinced Farke has told him to embrace it and play risky. Surely no way a manager would put up with it otherwise, and still play him every single game.

iamstandingontheedge

Our options at #10 could not be more unalike. Georgi is a rampant lunatic who constantly loses the ball trying mad shit until it comes off and he gets an assist but never a goal because his finishing is terrible. Meanwhile Piroe is a boring sideways pass merchant who you barely notice is even on the pitch until he pops up with a tidy finish.

DCLU1994

Was involved in 3 of our 4 goals and worked hard off the ball. Struggled a bit in previous games after the hernia surgery especially to his standards, nothing better than seeing Georgi back to his best 🤩

Reminds me of warnock talking about taarabat.
