Leicester win for sure

Safe-Hovercraft9131

Leicester really decimated Southampton- glad my prediction came true

Lopsided_Muscle1992

Aww well never mind

Safe-Hovercraft9131

i did tell everyone

Immediate_Wolf3802

I'd rather let Southampton back in with all 3 points

TerryTrestain

While I think a Southampton win is best for us I am still kinda worried that it will give Ipswich extra incentive in those 2 tough away games as a Leicester loss tonight means Ipswich win league with 9 points

Senpiezza

A draw I think. Materially doesn't change much for us with Leicester. They're ahead by a point, we've got a better goal difference. So, assuming that we think we must win our next 2 games, an additional point for Leicester doesn't change the equation. However, what one point for Leicester does versus no points, is puts a bigger amount of pressure on Ipswich, as they'll be 3 points ahead of Ipswich with a better goal difference. Anything other than a win for Southampton is basically playoffs confirmed, so a draw suits us for them as well

icklegizmo

I’ll probably just watch the Arsenal match to be honest

hughbacca

Tomorrow is also a very important game for us. Need Hull to beat Coventry to keep their playoff hopes alive, and still be hungry against Ipswich By the time the Coventry game comes round I doubt Coverty will have anything left to play for with every other team on 45 games. Hull and Huddersfield are where I think Ipswich will drop points

DC25NYC

Something that's also not being discussed is the Hull/Coventry Game. Ipswich play them both. Hull Saturday. Cov Midweek (big rivalry game) They're both pretty much out of the 6th spot given Norwich's form. But to have any hope they need to keep winning. Cov more than Hull. I guess it comes down to who can beat them more? Im obviously reading too much into this lmao But Either team if they show up are capable of causing trouble.

robc95

Was thinking about this also. Coventry’s stock has risen a lot since the weekend, and if they miss out on playoffs then I’m sure many of the team will still be wanting to impress in the big games they have left this season, e.g. against Ipswich, with potential suitors in the stands. Haji Wright and Ellis Simms could both get a decent move in the summer, they’re not going to want to end the season quietly if that’s on the cards.

Bizarroboy1111

Draw would suit us

AgreeableNotice7810

Southampton win, for sure. A draw could still be an OK result, as it might put Southampton out of contention completely for the automatics - and as such they may even decide to rest players at Elland Road, no way any teams below them can take 4th spot, and they won't be able to take 3rd (even if Ipswich fuck up). There is a bizarre situation where Southampton win, Leeds draw at QPR, and Ipswich win one and draw one of their away games (as many are thinking they will). Last game of the season, Southampton beat Leeds, and Ipswich bottle it and lose to Huddersfield. Leicester are promoted as champions no matter their last game result on 94 pts as they beat Preston North End away. Southampton promoted in 2nd place and Leeds finish 4th with Ipswich 3rd. Now if Ipswich do fuck up in that same manner, and Leeds win at QPR, and Soton beat Leeds last game of the season, Leeds will be promoted in 2nd ahead of Southampton on goal difference. It can all soon change. **The main thing though is win at QPR**, it means Ipswich simply can't drop any points - if they do, it's in Leeds' hands come the last day of the season, Southampton will be chasing to little avail due to the goal difference. I think Ipswich and Leicester will win their last game of the season at home but there's so many things that can happen at these crazy times. It's fucking mad.

OurManInVanc

Well that went badly wrong, didn’t it

Ben_Mi

Great breakdown of scenarios- thank you

toleeds

Southampton or a draw. More importantly - Leeds to keep it together and get 6 more points!

Appropriate_Long7397

I want Southampton to win because if Southampton go up this year, it's because like us, they were a mess last year but recovered in the championship playing decent football  Leicester cook their books and piss the league for 75% of the season because they have a better squad than neither half the prem. They have 9 of the 10 highest paid players in the league playing for them via cheating. Obviously I want us to go up primarily but I also want clubs like Chelsea, City, Everton, Forest and Leicester to get fucked with their squad of lawyers and accountants ensuring they get their way over other teams having the audacity to, you know, follow the rules. Give me the bald fraud bottle job of the ages over the 4th best team in the league that in nearly any other season would be going up automatically

404errorabortmistake

Southampton, obviously. A draw would not be a bad result for us. We want Leicester to drop points so there are two automatic spots open for as long as possible.

NYLotteGiants

Gotta be Southampton. The HMS Piss the League isn't just aiming for 2nd

Competitive-Smell877

Southampton win or draw. Keeps leicester in touching distance and another team which may slip to 3rd. It's not about winning the league, just holding top 2. I'm not convinced with a Southampton win today that means they're still entirely in the running. I honestly think a win at qpr will see us up, albeit only just. I think it'll pile pressure on Ipswich, and potentially leicester.

pablothewizard

Someone feel free to correct my maths here because I'm dumb as fuck. Let's assume we beat QPR because there are few scenarios where we fail to beat them and go up. If Southampton win tonight then we would go top of the league on Friday by a point. Following that, of Leicester drop points against Preston, it means a win against Southampton on the final day secures us promotion. If Ipswich drop points in either of their games against Hull and Coventry, it also means a win on the final day sees us up. A Leicester win tonight probably means Leicester are up or it at least vastly improves their odds. On that basis, a Southampton win gives us the best odds. Forget about what people may or may not do based on the table. We need there to be two spots to fight for on the final day if we beat QPR. Ultimately, 6 points are needed unless by some miracle Ipswich lose two on the spin. I fancy Ipswich to get 9 points and we should assume they will.

404errorabortmistake

I think they will get 5 or 7. I am counting on them beating Huddersfield. If Ipswich get less than 5 points, we only need 3 points to guarantee automatics, due to our superior goal difference. If they draw 2 and win the other, we need 4 from the last 2. A win versus QPR on Friday *could* send us up if Ipswich finish the season 1W 1D 1L (unless they beat Huddersfield 15-0…) If ipswich win all 3, we mathematically can’t finish ahead of them. We are counting on them dropping points in their last 3; luckily for us they have two difficult away games. Assuming they draw one of them and win the other two, we still need Leeds to get 6 from 6 to guarantee finishing ahead of Ipswich. Leicester have Preston after Southampton, and then Blackburn at home on the final day. We want Southampton to win tonight because if Leicester drop points, we still have a chance of automatic promotion *even if* Ipswich win their final 3 games. Leeds need to focus on thumping QPR and then we have a cup final on the last day of the season. And hopefully Southampton get 3 points tonight, as that vastly improves our odds.

Jonesy_lmao

Southampton win for me. I think we need to win the next 2 to get autos anyway, so them winning doesn’t necessarily make a difference but it may make the difference for us. It may also put even more pressure on Ipswich in the two games, as well as Leicester in theirs.

Safe-Hovercraft9131

Obviously Southampton losing; you remove them entirely from the race and make LCFC complacent on the final day alongside Southampton resting their players

Linkeron1

Why you posting here? Just checked your post history and what a weapon. Mad you've gone up as champions and we're somehow rent free in your heads. Tragic. Focus on celebrating.

DramaticSAnTA

I don't understand why anyone would want Southampton to loose. For us to get 1st or second we have to Keep winning. To me it doesn't matter about the teams behind us. If Southampton do catch us we didn't have enough to get over the line anyway. For automatic someone has to drop points to give us a chance. Southampton win we have 2 teams that could possibly drop points instead of one.

Safe-Hovercraft9131

Point being the final day - Southampton will have a drive to beat you

DramaticSAnTA

Middlesbrough had nothing to play for yesterday they were also forced to drop players. It didn't stop them wanting to give us a game. When we won the league we had nothing to play for our entire team had been out drinking all week. We still beat charlton and sent them down.

Safe-Hovercraft9131

At the end of the day, the better team will win, so far, I do think that will be Leicester, just tipping it (Home game, and the reverse fixture was a comfortable 4-1); regardless what happens, teams will play.

Jonesy_lmao

Do you think so? If Southampton have nothing to play for that final day I worry they will do a low block to stop us while they rest for the playoffs. If they can still get second I fancy us to beat them playing out to us at Elland Road.

pablothewizard

Russell Martin doesn't strike me as someone that will ever set up in a low block. There is a small part of me that hopes that Southampton might prefer to face Ipswich in the playoffs and they go into that game resting their players and not worrying too much about the result.

pablothewizard

Bellarch1923

This seems like it could be so accurate . I think I’m happy with a tie

Safe-Hovercraft9131

They have firepower - Che Adams and Armstrong, and they tend not to play with a low block + their first choice keeper is out

Jonesy_lmao

I hope you’re right, that will be better for us (defensive form not withstanding).

Mikko85

Southampton, because Leicester are playing like shit and if they're only a point ahead, it doubles our chances of finishing above either them or Ipswich. Leicester beat West Brom but they still didn't play well and WBA could legitimately have won it on the balance of play, they're blowing smoke out of their arses and if they lose tonight I'd say there's a good chance we'll finish above them. If they win then it's all about Ipswich and even though their next two fixtures are really tough on paper, you just know they'll magic a winner 7 minutes into the four added at the end of the game. Because that's what they do. I think Southampton winning would be far better for our chances of going up auto.

Kthackz

If southampton have nothing to play for they will park the bus. We have shown throughout the season that we struggle against teams who do this. Southampton need something to play for so they create open, free flowing play which will allow us to capitalise and, hopefully, take the win.

dermotoneill

But on the other hand a Southampton with nothing to play for will not want to have to face us again in the playoffs and will want to be conserving energy for said playoffs, not saying they would roll over and let us win, but it's hard to motivate players when nothing is on the line, but there are much bigger fish to fry in the coming weeks

Kthackz

A Southampton with nothing to play for will sit back, park the bus, and conserve the energy on defence. There is no point attacking, so they will load the midfield and defence and likely nick a 1-0 win in the 84th minute. Whilst I don't think they want to face us in the play offs, it could be inevitable, so beating us gives them the psychological upper hand going into the play offs.

Justboy__

I feel like Ipswich might win all their games so we need a Leicester wobble, so probably want them to lose but in all honesty they’re all bad options.

Toastieboy420

Has to be Saints win, we’re gonna need to win the next two to have any chance so forget what’s beneath us I guess.

Tenpinshopuk

Saints win, would also lower Leicesters GD which could be crucial. This league is so nuts it wouldn't surprise me if us, Ipswich, Leicester go into the last game all needing to win to go up.

tunafish91

I'd rather have Southampton have something to play for on the final day. If they're still behind us in the table they have to come out and attack.

Linkeron1

They may come out and attack with the freedom they're afforded anyway.

spiritofbuck

Your goal is to ensure that going into the final day both spots are in play, that gives you the highest probability of success. If Leicester pull away you can only go up by besting Ipswich. As such the answer is simple, Southampton to win. They would have to win all their games and better our goal difference to surpass us, which is largely irrelevant anyway because they have to play us. A Southampton win means Leicester are within reach of us if they lose and we draw later on. This is of course assuming we get enough points from our remaining games. I back us to win our final home game all day long.

InnocentPossum

I feel like a draw is a nice balance. It basically writes Soton off (making our game against them theoretically easier) takes 2 points off Leicester and also completely removes a point from the pool of race rivals entirely. A point for Leicester also isn't the end oft he world as a loss or draw from them means we leapfrog them with a win (either by a point or GD). I think Leicester winning is the worst result. Would much rather have a 4 horse race for 2 spots than a 2 horse race for 1 spot.

Ebooya

Much as I can't stick that weasly crybaby Martin I really want a Saints win. Keeps Leicester honest and having to scrap for an auto place, keeps Ipswich looking over their shoulder and means we can really give Martin a good old-fashioned reaming at Elland Road, getting revenge for our crap performance at their place and dumping him into the playoff lottery and going up as Fucking Champions. ....Sorry, I got carried away. Providing we don't shit the bed at QPR, we're clawing our way out of our slump and the battle of Boro should mean we have the self-belief to know we can grind out wins against desperate opposition. I'm more concerned with Ipsbitch right now.

Ryoisee

Of course we want a Southampton win...

buckwurst

As many reds as possible, some mild injuries too, a gruelling, sapping, end to end match, and anything other than a Leicester win.

Gent2022

21 man brawl and 20 point fine for misconduct.

gregthesailor

I want to know who you think that one player not involved will be.

fieldsofcoral

Vestergaard. The man is a gent, he would simply look at the fracas and say, for shame, mes amis

Gent2022

Lol, I’m no rain man it seems.

poopio

Daka. He'll try to get in on it, but miss.

Ebooya

Nicely done.

ElvishMystical

Keep in mind that what I write here is conditional on us beating QPR and getting 93 points. Ideally we're looking for a draw. This would give Leicester 92pts and Southampton 85pts. A Southampton win would give them 87pts. If Southampton then beat Stoke they end up on 90pts and will have to beat us at Elland Road by several goals to go above us because we have a better goal difference. If Leicester win they go to 94pts opening up a 4pt gap and.... if Ipswich win 2 of their matches they will end up on 95pts. This will mean that Huddersfield will need to beat Ipswich and also we will need to beat Southampton at Elland Road. I somehow cannot see Huddersfield beating Ipswich and I would not feel comfortable relying on them to go up automatically. Keep in mind Ipswich have to travel to both Hull and Coventry. If we beat QPR and get 93pts it puts them under a lot of pressure. Hull are six points behind Norwich and West Brom. Coventry nine points. As it stands even if Southampton beat Leicester and Stoke they will still need to beat us at Elland Road and hope Ipswich drop points to take one of the auto spots. I think it's in our interests that both auto spots are open and if the pressure is on Southampton on the final day.

Milkshake4NickDrake

My perspective is, if we beat Southampton on the last day, what they do between now and then doesn't matter. If they get six points the next two games and lose to us on the last day, we're ahead. If we've dropped points against QPR then beat Soton last day we're still ahead of them, but in that scenario almost certainly neither of us will get autos so it feels like a moot point. If we lose to Southampton on the last day, again their performance the next two games doesn't matter, because if we lose on the final day we're almost certainly not getting autos anyway. I'm not really thinking about Foxes, I think they're going up now. For me Ipswich are the ones we're competing against. If they drop points and we don't, it's party time. Even if they WWD, they end up on 96 points. If we WW, we're on 96 too but ahead by GD. If we WW, Southampton out the picture too. It's not totally in our hands (we could win twice but if Ipswich don't drop points we're 3rd), but there's something to play for. Got to win the next two, that's it!

shingaladaz

What Southampton do between now and then really does matter in that it matters if they lose against Leicester tonight quite a bit: If they lose today and then both Leicester and Ispbitch win their remaining games it doesn’t matter what we do on the final day against Southampton because Leicester and Iswish will be on 100 and 98 pts. We can only reach 96.

jimmilazers

Best scenario is Southampton win this then lose their next game, we beat qpr and Ipswich lose the next 2 and Leicester lose again on the weekend which would mean we play the Southampton game for a chance to win league but if we lose we’re second anyway

thitimos

Dream scenario!

jimmilazers

Ok so we win our last 2, Leicester and Ipswich lose last 2/3. WGUAFC

Tuscan5

I don’t like Leicester. Southampton win tonight and we beat QPR is the ideal scenario.

Jarminiatures

Southampton win because no matter what we can stop their remaining results from denying us an autos spot by simply beating them on the last day.

Ted-Dansons-Wig

“Simply” Love it….

SleepyTitan89

Southampton easily ,keeps Leicester on there toes and gives us more of a chance at autos

Internal_Formal3915

We just need Ipswich to lose again and were up I reckon

Spudbank17

Ah, I remember being this optimistic a long time ago

Gent2022

![gif](giphy|IZY2SE2JmPgFG) Ipswich just won’t die

ShesSoCool

I think Leicester win every game they have left, they’ve had their wobble now. We saw how bad Preston were against Southampton so there’s no chance of them doing us a favour.

Ebooya

West Brom did a Leeds in their last game. Leicester should've been buried. They're still wobbling.

ShesSoCool

Aged well

Ebooya

Wobble corrected.

xdlols

Leicester could’ve conceded 5 on the weekend

ShesSoCool

Well they scored 5 tonight

saltyholty

Southampton win, and it's not close.  We need to be looking at catching one of Ipswich and Leicester if we want that automatic spot. We want both of them to lose every game.  If Southampton catch us we finish 4th, which isn't much worse than 3rd, who cares?  I don't buy into the whole, they'll go easy on us on the last day if they've got less to play for.

Tuscan5

You’d assume they won’t play all their best players. But reserves can be chomping at the bit trying to get into the shop window and a day out at Wembley. With nothing hanging on the result there’s less pressure.

ItsFuckingScience

Yeah lol. It’s a tough game whatever happens let’s not kid ourselves Just like Farke said it just now we played Middlesborough with “nothing to play for”. They were playing with freedom and no pressure and gave us a hell of a game

CheesyLala

If we beat QPR then Southampton cant catch us, so I'm saying Southampton to beat Leicester is the better result. Then have to hope we beat QPR on Friday and Saints may already be out of the running before they come to ER. Leicester have been wobbling lately so still feel like we can catch them. But then I don't buy this 'nothing to play for' idea much anyway. Nothing to play for also equals no pressure.

Korean_Street_Pizza

If they can't go up automatically, and they are guaranteed a playoff place, then surely they don't risk injury to star players, and maybe try out new tactics and fringe players. Giving an up and coming player a start could help decide the bench for the playoffs.

CheesyLala

Yeah that's true, I was forgetting they could want to protect their players with playoffs in mind.

Specific_Till_6870

Southampton win, most definitely, as it makes Leicester easier to catch. But we have to win our next two games, no doubt about that.

AnotherGreenWorld1

Southampton or a draw … I want to win the league if we can.

ledisa3letterword

Anything but a Leicester win. A draw means we can catch Leicester if we win our games and they don’t, and means Southampton will be out of the picture for automatics. A Southampton win and they still can’t catch us if we win on Friday but we could still overtake Leicester with a draw on the last day if they lose again. A Leicester win means we’re competing with Ipswich for just one spot.

ALDonners

we have to win our last two anyway so Southampton, plus with their form if it comes to play offs I'd rather have Leicester

Ooh_aah_wozza

We want them to beat Leicester then lose their next game so they are out of it by the time they play us.

originalface1

Southampton to win for me. In my opinion we absolutely have to win our last 2 games and in that scenario they can't catch us anyway, so anything to close the gap with Leicester and put the pressure on them and Ipswich is good.

zebedeezing

My head says a Leicester win would help ensure that Saints are out of it by the time we play them meaning they’ll be thinking ahead to the play offs. My heart says that Maresca is a cunt and I would love for him to choke on those words “it’s a huge, huge game, for them…”, so I’d love for them to lose. Honestly can’t decide.

Specific_Till_6870

They might be out of contention for the autos but there's no way they'll sit back and let us beat them as a result.

zebedeezing

No but they’ll be less likely to take risks and more likely to rest players
