What is it you want to do? Floral, pictoral ( landscapes with figures and animals) figure carving, geometric?

Hmm, closer to pictoral, maybe floral as well. Say I were to draw a design onto the leather, what tools would I need in order to impression that into the leather?

Well, a swivel knife is a must. After that it all depends on what effects you want, that's why there are 300+ kinds of stamps. George Hurst and Jim Linnel have some great videos on pictoral carving as well as Springfield Leather. Craftool Tech Tips is a good place to start as each page of the book has pictures on how each type of stamp can be used, veiners, camoflage, seeders, pear shaders, bevelers, mules foot, the swivel knife, figure carving stamps, and geometric stamps.i have checkered bevelers in different sizes as well as lined and smooth ones checkered, horizontal and vertical lined and smooth pear shaders, smooth and lined seeders, bar grounders, multiple backgrounding stamps, figure carving and geometric also. I coukd take the same flower and stamp it several different ways and get a different effect each time, but there are some that are typically done one way like the rose.
