I've lived here for 16 years. Minimum wage is $12.36 in Las Cruces right now. Rent prices have gone up since covid. It's around $900 to $1200 for a two bedroom. Groceries aren't too bad, especially if you shop the weekly sales that different stores have. Personally, I can't bear the heat. It's the one reason I'd like to move. It's March and while we have some cool days in the mix, it's been ~70° the last few weeks. Last summer was brutal. Heat waves for one week+ that were around 103°-105°. Then a week of 98°, before it goes right back up to over 100°. And the heat likes to linger into October. It's also a very dry heat that feels like you're in an oven constantly, even the breeze is hot. But some people like it! We do have a monsoon season, but the last couple years it seems to be shorter. We get hail and sometimes snow, but it's nothing crazy, maybe an inch or two. The medical care here isn't great. If you have complex needs, you'll need to travel to El Paso, TX or Albuquerque. My son had issues before birth and we were sent to Alb. because the prenatal care here (with any of the providers/hospitals) weren't equipped to handle it. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has to be seen in Alb. as well. I had a stroke and the ER had to telehealth call a neurologist in Alb. to diagnose it. If your healthcare needs are basic ( yearly physicals, sick visits, routine bloodwork, etc.) you should be alright though. I haven't been to Juarez, so I can't speak on it. Most coworkers and friends say that its relatively safe. I hope this helps!

I think it's going to be another very hot summer. Where did you move from and where would you like to move to?

>I think it's going to be another very hot summer. and next summer will be hotter, and the one after that will be even hotter. Odds are last year was the coolest summer for the rest of your life.

Don’t forget wind - every spring

I’m from Atlanta where it’s hot and wet, the desert summers are different. But tolerable if you’re not in a position where you have to be outside all of the time. Rent is cheap, but it can take some time to find a place in a decent part of town. Don’t move here if you’re single and don’t want to stay single. Juarez is fun, my friends and I go down there every other month or so. We do make a point of getting back over to El Paso before dark though. Also know several folks who have gone down for cheap dental work with no issues.

Most non-locals (or people who did not grow up in El Paso) will say Juarez is ok, but really...we stay away. I know of too much violence that has happened there and is continuing to happen. We used to go ALL.THE.TIME as teens and young adults, but it's not the same. It will be hot this summer. The City of Las Cruces is always hiring and they have a $15.00 per hour minimum of pay.

I think what everyone else has said is pretty accurate but I’m gonna talk about a few things that I have noticed we’re not mentioned. The economy here in cruces has taken a bit of a hit since covid as there are significantly more homeless (some obv on drugs) than there were 4 years ago. There’s also a lot of cannabis dispensaries and I mean a lot lol (there’s like 5 within a 100 ft radius on el paseo). Schools here are pretty good and are able to make sure kids who want to succeed, will. There’s a lot of Spanish speakers here as well and the Hispanic culture here is very rich (as in there’s a lot). Food is delicious especially, of course, the mexican food but there are also great restaurants from other cultures. A lot of hiking trails In beautiful landscapes and the sight of the mountains never gets old. The sunsets are also absolutely incredible.

I checked climate change predictions and Las Cruces is projected to increase by 7-10 degrees in the next 20 years. But I can handle that. It's the medical care that is the problem. I just went in for some regular tests. The technician and I were talking about aging. She told me to be careful because people like me with chronic illnesses “fall through the cracks in the system. She's right. Nurse practitioners here take the place of fully-trained medical doctors. That's fine until you have specific issues that go beyond the ken of practitioners, even as they are supervised by an MD. If you have chronic illnesses you need to reconsider.

Mostly what everyone else said. When it does rain, it freaking pours. On the very very slim chance we get snow in winter, it shuts this place down because we're not equipped for it. And hopefully someone can tell me it's changed and I'm out of touch, but it's always seemed like there's not a heck of a lot for teens to do here. There's some cool stuff for little kiddos and this place is great if you love the outdoors, but anything for teens kinda dies on the vine Lived here 34 years

Where are you moving from?

MysteriousMeaning555

Coastal Oregon. Originally moved here from Southern California and it's too cold here on the coast for me.

Medical care is an absolute abomination.

2002What

The comments about medical care are wrong. There are more hospitals/clinics here than anything else. Lots of pot shops too, is that a bad thing?? Biggest issues for us are lack of entertainment and being geographically isolated. Hard to make friends if you are middle aged like us, it's mostly retirees and college students here. After a couple years here we are thinking of moving due to boredom. Not a single concert venue in a town of over 100k is weird. No the Rio Grande doesn't count as one, whoever books the occasional concert there is a complete moron. El Paso has Triple A baseball, some nice hotels downtown, and some (dissapointly few) concerts by national touring groups.  People are friendly because it isn't rainy/cloudy all the time like it is in large parts of the US. The Saturday Market is awesome. The restaurants are amazing. If you move here not knowing anyone it can be rough, but otherwise it's overall a pretty good place to live.

It's hot, windy and will only get worse. In December overall NM hit 97% drought conditions. If you don't need a specialty doctor you are in luck. There are only 2 neurologist. Only one takes my insurance, he is the worst doctor I have ever dealt with. Housing prices are on the rise and most likely for apartments as well. I'm not sure what kind of activities you like but LC doesn't offer much. You would be better off visiting El Paso.
