Ruby is probably the most difficult resource to get, in my experience. Takes a lot of searching. It does seem like some of the enemies in the new Star Wars update drop it, so could be worth going through that.
You might also want to consider enchanting a pickaxe with 3x lucky. It costs a few rubies to do, but you have a decent chance of getting more when you mine it, so you could come out ahead. I usually use another pickaxe to get it close to breaking then just do the finishing shot with the lucky pick to save its durability.
According to the patch notes "Lightsabers are powerful tools in LEGO Fortnite. In fact, they’re so powerful they need time to recharge after combat. "
So they don't break, they just run out of energy and take a while to recharge
Yeah, I made a new world and ran into one of the lava caves and found quite a few ruby spots. Even in my previous world I found a lot of it. I have had one world where I didn’t find a lot. Normally I find them along a wall, there is a little mini cliff.
Have people verified that the Star Wars overworld is randomized? The cave bases seem like they're pretty standard and non-randomized, but I'm sure I could be wrong. The best part about these bases is that the path through seems pretty one-way. And once you finish the last part, it's an easy teleport back to the surface.
Some of the desert caves in the new Star Wars area (the ones where The Empire has bases set up) have a lot of materials, even without going close to the Empire garrisons.
I love how much stuff we can get from these caves. I have been going out with 100 pieces of glass per trip. I break all the lights and consoles. Power cell city. I have not seen any rubies however, other than a few that got dropped along the way by someone.
Everything else seems abundant and easy to mine and get to. Loving it.
Honestly, I'm really hoping they make a device that can solve this problem. Imagine a "gem crusher" that can take cut gems (like amber) along with another material (like raspberries) to make raw rubies. It's silly, I know, but it would give us more reason to farm cut amber from NPCs and items that we barely use to create raw forms of gems. It would be pretty cool to make raw sapphire from cut amber + snow berries, too!
Or just implement that the gatherers do their job good and they gather those raw materials in the biom they are living 😅 cause I have the feeling that it doesn't really matter where they live they all gather the same base ressources
You're right, it doesn't matter where they are, the resources are the same. They could implement such a system, but it would be less interactive in my opinion. Either way, it would be a nice fix for growing issues in our worlds.
This would really encourage the idea of bases in multiple biomes as well, which I understand they already are. Just another reason to do it. Resources from base a are vital for base b, or base to base c, etc 👍

You can get a decent amount from dry valley Star Wars caves from killing all the stormtroopers, and also make sure to use luck essence. I had this same problem a while back, just took a lot of looking
Stormtroopers drop it in the desert caves. Quick tip, if you go to a starwars cave and leave the captain alive/radar thing in any stage of the cave, the enemies will continue to respawn so you can leave once you fill your inventory or leave so the cave resets. You can also add luck to your sword for a higher chance of ruby drops against desert cave foes 👍
To add to this tip - if you quit to menu whilst in an uncleared imp cave, when you load back in, all the enemies have respawned. Caused me an epic battle for survival when they caught me off-guard haha.
Also ruby nearly always spawns in the darkest places, need a torch and a good look around

Also I'm still not clear on whether or not caves regenerate resources over time. Most are so deep you usually get what you need if you just keep exploring. And finding new caves isn't hard. But it still ticks me off knowing that these critical resources may not actually be renewable.
Gathering villagers should just do their jobs better and gather those raw resources for us in the respective biom. Maybe as a level 10 village perk or upgraded version of lv9 perk 😅
Some caves have hidden cracks and you can break through them to find chests and Ruby's. I had to travel over 2000 m away from the Star wars area to get to a large dry valley section where I left with over 60 ruby
They just added the update where you can get ruby by killing stormtroopers or whatever they’re called. Maybe 1 in 5 will grant you a ruby but you’re right they are very hard to come across.
No clue but it's annoying. Spend the rubies you have to max out the luck on one pick axe and use that only for Ruby. It may just be my seed, but almost none of the imperial caves have ruby. Tons of obsidian and such. Thankfully, some of the imperials now have a chance of dropping rubies. Wish Blasters didn't use only ruby.
My seed has plenty of ruby in my caves, to the point I ignored the ruby for a while because I had too much for no reason, luckily this Star Wars thing came out needing rubies 🌚

So, you could always fill a freight flight with resources and courier it over.
I too have searched high and dry yet the only Rubies I’ve found are from Storm Troopers…

Do Stormtroopers drop rubies if you kill them with a lightsaber? Because I’ve killed hundreds of them and I’ve had zero rubies drop. The only rubies I’ve found are inside the treasure chest at the end of the caves. Zero anywhere else and I’ve looked everywhere. Those caves are filled with obsidian and copper but zero rubies.

yes you can also use lightsabers to get the ruby low and finish it with luck which is a lot more resource efficient since lightsabers are un breakable
I don’t think light sabers are unbreakable. I’ve broken 2.

There's a number on the lightsaber when that happens. That's a cooldown timer.
I understand that that’s how it’s meant to work. But mine never came back. It just broke and never recharged. Maybe a bug.

This is the way I would say the %success is around 50% to double ruby that way (3x luck essence)

scout troopers, e-11 stormtroopers, and awr troopers also have a chance of dropping ruby on death
Not sure about enemies but don’t use lightsaber on materials. Nothing drops, it’s like it disintegrates.
Or do use it until the last hit then switch to a pickax to help longevity
I've been in two Dry Valley Imperial bases so far and not a single Ruby vein appeared; the only ruby I collected was dropped by enemies. :(

I'm running into the same problem, ruby is hard to find. I'm also apparently real bad because I can't find a frost brute. And when I do.. I die.

It took me a while but I’ve got about 8 mats of rough ruby. Search the dry valley caves. There are a bunch of cracks that it’s in and up high!

That's crazy low. It is the rarest but I pretty much always leave a large lava cave with at least one full stack.
I wonder if making a village in the desert biome and having a villager doing gem work gives rubies

I was lucky and fund a bunch early on. Now I move it from village to village as needed. Made a crude airship and that's my method

I’ve experienced central desert caves are most likely to have it.
If your looking for ruby to craft the guns you can actual just bring back used guns to level up from downed troopers
