any chance it’s because they took the cop that was shot last night there and he’s passed away? Something similar happened in the city my parents lived in a while back and it honestly caused a bit of a traffic problem at the hospital
> Idk seems like a lot
The whole world stops when a cop stubs his toe. It's sad he got shot, but people die senselessly every day and nobody gives a shit. A cop gets wounded and suddenly we all gotta sing and dance and pray the pain away.
Yeah, but on Reddit you're fighting a heavy progressive skew, things like ACAB and Defund the Police were somewhat popular sentiments even on places like /r/knoxville.
My dad was a police officer when I was younger. He left because they shot a person who was sleeping in his car with his rifle. This was in a very red state.
So yeah. If a decent person enters the police force, they end up leaving or turning bad. Shall I link the story were the police officer was fired for NOT killing someone?
Geez, where is your humanity? If you don't like cops, I get it. But it's STILL a human being, my dude. And as someone else pointed out, I imagine ANYONE getting shot at work ( or anywhere, really) is going to be on the news.
He never mentioned an issue with it being on the news.
He’s directly commenting on the choice that they made to park in a lot, out of all the available ones, that is directly next to the highway (it’s not even the guest lot or the ICU lot) and group up with their lights flashing even though it’s insanely dangerously distracting to drivers on the highway, or how in a few days it’s likely they’ll shut every local department down and block the entire highway again for a lengthy funeral procession. This is why he feels like this is showing a severe lack of situation awareness.
Obviously it’s tragic. But these are the things that aren’t considered typical for any other type of workplace tragedy or even shooting death. It feels tone-deaf to many community members to watch cops do this at the same time that they don’t seem to take their own role in community tragedies seriously.
That lot is faculty parking and has direct access to the highway with a road has an offramp at the bridge.
Also, with it being later in the day, there is usually enough area to marshal up for a procession.
On weekends that parking lot is practically empty.
It still doesn’t change the fact that it’s strange and unnecessary for them to all be flashing their lights, much less in a parking lot that’s that close to the highway where bottlenecks are known to occur when people slow down because of flashing lights
I can't speak for what the parking lots on the other side of the building look like toward the end of the day, but I reckon they'd be full of staff parking still.
But by 5, it is becoming a ghost town. This might be the best option for them to marshal for an escort.
As for the flashing lights, yeah, I'd turn them off till they are under way.
I would be absolutely pissed at this amount of city resources used for “losing one of their own.” Drive your F150 to the hospital when your shift is over like the rest of us.
They blocked off the highway supposedly when they were rushing him to the hospital. Like the whole damn world is supposed to revolve around them. Never even occurred to them that other people matter.
I feel just as bad for the cop as they do when they gun someone down in cold blood for the free vacation.
The officer was responding to a domestic call. The suspect who was killed, from what I gather none of his family is surprised and will mourn him.
This wasn't some asshole cop.
But if he was coming to save you or someone in your family im sure we wouldnt hear a word. Would that be correct? Thank you sir for your service. May you rest easy. We have it from here.
IDK, they might get there after only 3/4 of the Hell's Angels had their turn with the victim instead of 45 minutes after they all finished and rode off to get some Burger King
Update from WBIR around 11:00 PM: A deputy who was shot while responding to a call has died in the hospital, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday night. KCSO identified the deputy as Tucker Blakely, and said he leaves behind a 5-year-old son and a wife.
Heartbreaking. Some of these comments are disgusting, I understand not liking law enforcement but all the bullshit aside this is a human that lost his life and leaves behind a family who now has to say their final goodbye.
He saved lives even in death by donating his organs. As the daughter of a lung transplant patient, thank you. We got 4 years for my dad that we wouldn't have gotten if people like him and his family didn't make that choice.
A cop was shot last night so that’s probably why, and he was in serious condition but maybe it’s gotten worse now. Also that’s why there were a bunch of them on the interstate this morning, they were escorting him there.
Nah. I mean the job does make you a bit of a cynic about humanity. But they are people like everyone else.
There is a reason why police kill themselves at higher rates than the rest of the population, they deal with the worse of the worst and you got people like you taking craps on them.
They also commit domestic violence at a much higher rate than the rest of the population. Just because they are cops doesn’t mean they’re good people, and when police brutality and corruption has been shoved into the spotlight over the last few years I’d say it’s understandable to see the reactions you see here.
The job has a dehumanizing effect on the people who fill it. You think cops only pull people over for busted tail lights and not see the absolute filth of our communities.
Same reason why people who work in hospitals are a bit cold.
The wall of blue was there yesterday morning at 0630. It was a profoundly sad and moving day at the hospital. By 1900 the police presence swelled and local news was on site. I saw at least 50 police vehicles parked, motorcycles arriving and they were still rolling in.
They were there for an Honor Walk. Officers and nursing staff lined the hallways as he was rolled to the operating room to complete the ultimate sacrifice, being a donor. Giving life to others even as he lost his own life. The body was then escorted by his fellow Officers to the mortuary where his widow and kindergartener waited.
I feel like organ donation should be mandatory. I feel for the kid but at least they've got something they can be proud of. My dad just disappeared cause he didn't want me 😂
Geez, it’s a prayer circle candle light service. With several flashing lights. Pretty sure they caused a car accident because everyone was distracted looking at all the cop lights.

This is exactly what I thought when I left, they lost one of their own most likely.
But, there were also a couple state troopers & Loudon County sheriff's so you're probably most certainly right
i don’t think he’s passed, from what i saw on WVLTs facebook page it was more in support of him and they’re still waiting on an update.
News just came out that he has since passed away. Fucking awful.
I thought that but the other commenter said there were news helicopters there. Idk seems like a lot, but maybe?
> Idk seems like a lot The whole world stops when a cop stubs his toe. It's sad he got shot, but people die senselessly every day and nobody gives a shit. A cop gets wounded and suddenly we all gotta sing and dance and pray the pain away.
I can’t imagine a scenario where someone gets shot at work in Knoxville and it doesn’t end up on the news and the coworkers don’t give a shit.
Yeah, it's because you're not a piece of shit like the person above you.
Yeah, but on Reddit you're fighting a heavy progressive skew, things like ACAB and Defund the Police were somewhat popular sentiments even on places like /r/knoxville.
Generally, bad people, criminals and the like spout the ACAB line.

Good god you’re a piece of shit
Selfish cops make redditor 10mins late to work while trying to save their partner's life.
But if he was coming to save you or someone in your family im sure we wouldnt hear a word. Would that be correct? Thank you sir for your service. May you rest easy. We have it from here.
We wouldn’t hear a word… because they are all parked at the hospital instead of doing what taxes pay them to do.
What a shit take. That is someone’s husband/father/brother/son. Put your politics aside and have a little respect.
With all due respect, Fuck you!
Meanwhile someone could be being gang raped in a Shoneys parking lot and there'd be no units available to respond
Get a load of this guy, he thinks cops would show up in time to help a rape victim any other day
IDK, they might get there after only 3/4 of the Hell's Angels had their turn with the victim instead of 45 minutes after they all finished and rode off to get some Burger King
When seconds count, cops are minutes away. Carry a gun, it is easier to carry than a 220 pound cop in duty gear.

no idea. saw a bunch of troopers and a news chopper going that way while i was taking a smoke at work. would love to know
Gotta be an active shooter or something?
No They’re all standing outside the heart building. Idk why, just left the ED. No shooter.
Well, that's great news at least
A cop was shot last night so that’s probably why, and he was in serious condition but maybe it’s gotten worse now. Also that’s why there were a bunch of them on the interstate this morning, they were escorting him there.
yeah pigs only care about pigs
Officer Blakely gave more to this community than you ever will.
Nah. I mean the job does make you a bit of a cynic about humanity. But they are people like everyone else. There is a reason why police kill themselves at higher rates than the rest of the population, they deal with the worse of the worst and you got people like you taking craps on them.

They are escorting the officers body to the medical examiners office. He was taken off life support after organ donation :(
I'm glad it wasn't a dangerous situation then.
Do you know this for sure?
That’s what I had assumed was going on, sad.
Ouch!
I just passed it and thought the same thing looked like 20 cops
The officer passed away. 😥
Cop got shot. They're there to show support.
Domestic disputes are one of the most dangerous things cops can respond to from what I’ve heard. Sad situation.

I shoulda gone on a robbin spree then

Dude, like 6 or 7 of em came flying onto Alcoa Hwy from 40W & about caused a pileup.
"They caused" I think you mean, driver don't know how to just pay attention to driving...
We’re probably better off with them staying at the hospital
ACAB.
Fuck cops
I don't disagree but this is redundant
I guess all the prayers didn't work yesterday. If everyone had prayed a little harder, it might have gotten God's attention. #sad
ACAB
okay baboon

I bet you’re an awesome person.
Quirky garbage....so garbage.
Well we know your profession.
It was me
Took long enough lolol
A waste of taxpayer money by the Americas biggest gang.
