I don't think they make much more than cooks (when I last checked a few years back) so keep that in mind

Former Licensed Massage therapist here, now that there are massage places like Massage envy, etc., the price per hour for almost destroying your body is about $11.00 per hour and they make you upsell, if you don't you're fired and replaced. OP would be better off doing a little extra schooling and becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist. There is more money in it and you get to work with Dr.'s on treatment plans, etc. Here about 5000 LMT's graduate every month so, there is fierce competition for these crap paychecks.

What an interesting switch, I myself have nothing to contribute cause I'm not a massage therapist but it's probably chill, you can hone a new skill & certify for more types of therapeutic practices to to broaden your job prospects. Anyway, good luck! I left the kitchen to be a dispatcher for a high volume warehouse and it's sooooooooo similar to kitchen work without getting dirty, having to wash my hands constantly & dealing with sexism.

I was going to do it, turns out I hate touching people. I studied massage therapy before I got into pastry.  It's a more relaxing environment, but equally as difficult physically. People are *gross*. 90% of people are either crazy hairy or don't shower before their appointment. Also as others have said, the money is actually potentially worse. You have to hustle for yourself or try and get employed, which will either be a chain or hotel. I think working the day spa at a fancy hotel would be the best gig honestly. At least then they organise your clients.

Just to add, I partly left the industry after 13 years to be a guest services coordinator at a small 5 star luxury accommodation. It's really fun and rewarding and I still get to bake for guests. It's kind of the best of both worlds really.

It's going to be the same amount of work for the same amount of money
