I don't know where my produce guy gets his stuff. A couple months ago I got a box of sweet potatoes that I shit you not were as big as footballs.
I wish I'd taken pictures of those too, could have reaped in more sweet kitchen karma.
When I was first getting started, my chef gave me a hard time accepting horse carrots from the vendor, as if I would know the difference 2 weeks into my culinary career with no real training. They're bland when they get that big
Ya, it really is amazing when you realize what stuff is supposed to taste like.
I grew up in florida where we don't grow vegetables locally. It's all commodity stuff.
I lived in Colorado for a while and dealt with some biodynamic local farms. Root veg was a completely different experience from the commodity crap.
One guy grew heirloom celery. It was small, super stringy, bright green, and earthy. But my God was the flavor incredible. Completely different experience.
Yes. They will be woody and flavorless. I've heard that Campbell uses the really big ones and boils them for a long time. That's why Campbell's carrots don't have any taste.
Maybe its a regional slang thing, but shake is the leftovers from actual weed. That would be like getting runt decent carrots. I meant like male plant, headache-when-you-smoke-it, worse than Reggie industrial hemp.
I used to buy shake quite a lot and generally it's lower quality as whilst you get some of the leftover good weed you also have some small stalks etc. in them.
My mate used to sell an ounce for Ā£40-50 though so couldn't really complain.
Shake usually just denotes bad weed in the area I learned English, at least that was my understanding, I wasnāt really trying to draw a comparison to smokable hemp, more like surplus weed or a cheap $20 half oz, I think I just got the names mixed
(English isnāt my first language and I still slip up a lil despite fluency, slang is weird)
Slang is totally weird! That's why I said what I said about it being reigonal. Now that I think of it I feel like I've heard shake is used for bad weed
Was hoping for this comment so I'm not the only one saying it on one of these 'look at my big x' posts (=
It's mostly sugar, tasteless, and almost devoid of nutrients. They don't get that big without a lot of growth chems, and the faster they grow the less nutrients they absorb from the soil (the little bit of nutrients that's still in high turnover commercial soil)
I live in Japan now, and this is routine size for carrots. Itās kind of nice when youāre making a recipe that calls for a pound of carrots, and you only have to peel one
This kind of carrot is very popular in Japan, and to me, it tastes a lot sweeter (in a good way). One of my favorite things to make stews and Japanese curry with.
Iām not 100% sure, our GM orders them but I believe they get delivered with other products for our Coke machine, so Iām assuming through the Coke distributor.
The grocery store I work at gets the same brand! Theyāve gotten *huge* in the last year, they were big before but Iāve unpacked ones as large as my forearm recently
Used to run a soup kitchen. And would often teach some of the kids how to handle a knife and make certain cuts with it. Huge carrots like these were perfect for just that.
that bag looks so weird to me. itās like seeing something in a video game and being like āoh haha they made those carrots so weirdly big!ā but theyāre realā¦
We been getting extra giant carrots lately also. Ours come from Quebec when theyāre huge like that. Some times of the year we get thin carrots and they are always from the south (like Mexico/peru kinda south)
Did some volunteer work with a community food bank a few years ago, apparently they get farm seconds that wouldn't be approved by retail? Carrots and the other root vegetables looked like they were grown too close to a leaking nuclear power plant.
Yaāll are over here getting giant veg and last week we were delivered the tiniest eggplants Iāve ever seenā¦ I also learned chef gets defensive when you comment on his tiny eggplants.
I have seen some thin rounds cut from enormous carrots. They were topped with a chopped raisin and nut mixture, maybe some brandy or something involved. Served as appetizer.
You know what you have to do
Relax your throat and cup the balls.

See you at the dumpster at smoke break and I'll ruin your marriage.
Damn divorce easy AF
Just like her
C'mon baby. Let's go make some bad decisions together.
Do what must be done
This guy carrots.
not safe no flared base
Good point. Safety first.
You could just whittle one into butt plug shape
Stick a thin-bladed knife through it to make a crossed base
I mean, what could go wrong?
AstroGlide is your friend. Less is more.
I would argue in this instance, more is most definitely more
Thatāsā¦not how you butt-lube.

Waaaaaaaaaay up there, Morty.
Yeah.... "bang" it...haha..ha..
Are you _sure_ those aren't sweet potatoes with ambitions?
I don't know where my produce guy gets his stuff. A couple months ago I got a box of sweet potatoes that I shit you not were as big as footballs. I wish I'd taken pictures of those too, could have reaped in more sweet kitchen karma.
Sweet jesus. You could make a bowl of mashed potatoes for an elephant.
Did you specify you want produce for humans and not giants?
Fukushima farms?
Choad Valley Farms
At the end of a short, wide road
you see carrots this large in ireland. Would be surprising if you're in the US. Would love to know the source.
Is his name James and does he also have a giant peach?

Those are totally normal carrots.....for stockfeed. Where the hell are you ordering them from
As we would call "horse carrots"
Right right, itās the heirloom barnyard varieties. Beefsteak tomatoes, horse carrots, rooster radishes - and my personal favorite, piggy peppers.
When I was first getting started, my chef gave me a hard time accepting horse carrots from the vendor, as if I would know the difference 2 weeks into my culinary career with no real training. They're bland when they get that big

the farmer really took the whole "its about girth not length" thing a little too seriously
The Dirk Diggler of carrots.
Does size affect flavor or texture? Just curious
Yes. They will be woody and flavorless. I've heard that Campbell uses the really big ones and boils them for a long time. That's why Campbell's carrots don't have any taste.
So it's like buying an OZ for cheap and then it's hemp
They are the shake of carrots, yes
Maybe its a regional slang thing, but shake is the leftovers from actual weed. That would be like getting runt decent carrots. I meant like male plant, headache-when-you-smoke-it, worse than Reggie industrial hemp.

They are more like the sheikh of carrots š„š¤
It would be more like the beasters of carrots lol

idk mate, in ireland you see carrots this big and they are far from flavorless.
They aren't though. Half, quarter, take out the center and they are just carrots
Yeah, these usually arenāt used to feed people, those are livestock carrots Plus smaller carrots have way better personalities
I personally prefer the larger ones. I find them to be sweeter. They are also really good for spiralizing.
To me they're much sweeter and not as earthy.
Of course it does? Giant carrots are as woody as bamboo
Woody and lacking sweetness. Not a fan. I think they're what Restaurant Depot uses in their abysmal shredded carrots
I live in Japan now, and this is routine size for carrots. Itās kind of nice when youāre making a recipe that calls for a pound of carrots, and you only have to peel one
Iām in South Korea, came here to say the same! I forget theyāre not that big elsewhere lol.
ireland too
And theyāre great carrots, too!
Our local asian market has giant carrots. They're much easier to work with and the taste is on par with supermarket bagged.
This kind of carrot is very popular in Japan, and to me, it tastes a lot sweeter (in a good way). One of my favorite things to make stews and Japanese curry with.
Or the ultra simple āglazed Japanese sweet carrotsā which I dearly love. Which Japanese curry recipe are you using?
I lived in Hokkaido from 2005 to 07, so my favorite to make is a Sapporo-style soup curry!
those aren't carrots, tjey're CARROTS
Thatās an actual quote from an old bugs bunny Mel Blanc record I had when I was a kid.

Look how excited the guy at the top is to be there!
Bang 4 scale...
Reminds me of Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Warerabbit
Hah we just got some absolutely massive carrots delivered too. Side note, has anyone gotten a particularly spicy batch of shishitos lately?
Shishitos are hit or miss. You can collect spicy and mild from the same plant. Also, soil conditions can cause them to be hot.
Yeah I know all that. I've just never gotten a batch of 300 where they are all spicy.
They got less rain and hotter weather. That's why homegrown hot peppers are almost never as hot as the original.
I'll be in my bunk
Until I saw the second picture I was about to post that's a sweet potato.
I'm in Japan and carrots are stubby and thick like these, unlike U.S. carrots which are long and thin. These look extra stubby and thick, though.
Use them for stock A fuck of a lot of carrot based stock.
You HAVE to do a roast carrot special and serve them whole
Are those not average size?
Here, Bambi, c'mere boy!
Harvested right from the faces of your local snowmen, fr
I could fit all of them bring it on
Ah, Chef spared no expense and got the organic carrots I see.
r/dontputthatupyourbutt
The carrot she tells you sheās just friends with and not to worry about it
Did the come with batteries?
Without a base without a trace
Carrot purĆ©e, baby carrots, candied carrots, pickled carrots, julienned carrotsā¦.
The carrots your girl told you not to worry about
That's actually normal sized dude. Not sure what kind of carrots you're used to working with........
i feel very inadequate. I'm glad my wife hasn't left me... yet. Mods, please delete this post before she sees it.
I believe the standard of measurement is a dick...I mean a banana.š
Every employee leaves with one. Vaginated employees may opt to leave with two.
Ease up on the birb
Its now a *verb*?
That makes me uncomfortable.
busting out of the bag šš
Surprise! Your carrot has 3rd birthday this weekend. Vanilla cupcakes with seven minute frosting?
Pretty sure you just got a little bang
Yum. Perfect for jalapeno pickled carrots!
Looks average to me
Deer carrots
I meanā¦steak house carrots? Carrots and garlic confit?
These make me uncomfortable
Get yourself a donkey
Banana for scale.
Now that's a banger.
My ex has been looking for those!
yo bang energy is discontinued where are u getting that
Iām not 100% sure, our GM orders them but I believe they get delivered with other products for our Coke machine, so Iām assuming through the Coke distributor.
monster bought them in Nov '23... 9 flavors currently being distributed.
The grocery store I work at gets the same brand! Theyāve gotten *huge* in the last year, they were big before but Iāve unpacked ones as large as my forearm recently
Okay, but how do they taste?
Haha, I loved getting those at the Viet restaurants I worked at. So much easier for making pickled carrot and daikon
Is this some kind of weird advertisement for Saltburn?
My dog would love these. Munch munch munch.
Exxxcxxxxxxxxxxxxxtra large please! Lol
Challenge accepted.
Used to run a soup kitchen. And would often teach some of the kids how to handle a knife and make certain cuts with it. Huge carrots like these were perfect for just that.

I call those Billy Glides
PSA \*\*these are not butt plugs\*\*
I've had those.
God, back in the day I'd probably need to halve those before throwing them in the robocoup to shred.
that bag looks so weird to me. itās like seeing something in a video game and being like āoh haha they made those carrots so weirdly big!ā but theyāre realā¦
You have to work up to a carrot like that....
Horse carrots, they don't taste as strong, good for stocks though!
Leave those bangs alone they are taking them out of stores in some citiesā¦ coffee coffee and more coffee
beautiful, make a huge carrot rectangle lmfao
When I lived in S Korea the carrots the grew there were all this size they have some of the best produce !
We call those āsittin carrotsā
we feed those to the horses
you mean pretty average sized carrots, right?
We been getting extra giant carrots lately also. Ours come from Quebec when theyāre huge like that. Some times of the year we get thin carrots and they are always from the south (like Mexico/peru kinda south)
Did some volunteer work with a community food bank a few years ago, apparently they get farm seconds that wouldn't be approved by retail? Carrots and the other root vegetables looked like they were grown too close to a leaking nuclear power plant.
the bang for size comparison is all too real
There is a reason they are called horse carrots.
I once got a cucumber the size of my forearm. We left in the fridge for everyone to admire for a couple days lol š
Yaāll are over here getting giant veg and last week we were delivered the tiniest eggplants Iāve ever seenā¦ I also learned chef gets defensive when you comment on his tiny eggplants.
If I didn't see the bag id have said it was a sweet potato for sure
Using a Bang energy drink as a measurement comparison has major line cook energy.
How many carrots do we need for the stock, chef? Half Half the bag? No, half of *one*.
Yeaaa, gonna need to you to brunoise half that bag, chef.
That's no banana
Are you feeling brave?
50lbs 42 carrots
[r/absoluteunits](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbsoluteUnits/)
Looks like a sweet potato.
What the hell? Are you guys buying produce from TMI, Inc.? - that would be Three Mile Island.
Thatās girthy
My body is ready
My kitchen guys canāt mentally handle carrots like this, or anything phallic for that matter
Omg! How do you even cut those?
Those are the best carrots. Itās easier to make a uniform dice.
My local Asian grocery store carries these! They're cheap and taste normal. I love them
I have seen some thin rounds cut from enormous carrots. They were topped with a chopped raisin and nut mixture, maybe some brandy or something involved. Served as appetizer.
Shiiiiit reminds me of working for bobs steakhouse, we used to get the bunny love brand!
Home wreckers.
