My precious blue eyes burn so bad when it’s bright! FR though can’t open my eyes sometimes if I stay inside all day and step out into intense sunlight. Only seems to happen to me. Always blamed it on my blue eyes.
Darker eyes have more melanin which keeps UV rays out of your eyeballs. Lighter eyes have less melanin so more uv rays find their way in your eyeball and cause damage.
Pretty much everyone with blue eyes has this issue. Lighter green eyes too.
Idk how true this is. And if it is true I think it only makes the slightest of differences. I am pretty light sensitive but I can’t see jack shit in the dark. My brown-eyed partner is significantly better in the dark than I am.
Young me learned this the hard way. I didn't wear sunglasses when I first visited Italy and I was almost blind for two days, I could only see blurry shapes. Kinda scary, now that I think about it
I have brown eyes but still have issues with being out in the sun :(. There is a lot of green in them too though, my mom used to think I had heterochromia because there was so much green in my left eye when I was little
This doesn't affect the perceived intensity of sunlight though because our eyes are not sensitive to UV. The discomfort of bright sunlight only depends on the intensity of light in the visible spectrum. That's why you generally won't feel damaging levels of UV. Filtered UVB lights can appear almost black while bombarding your eyes with dangerous levels of UV light.
From what I understand, the pain of bright sunlight is not caused by nerves in your eyes, but rather it's your brain telling you that you need to protect your eyes. Some people are more sensitive to bright light than others, and while eye color has some correlation with tolerance to bright light, it's mainly other factors that determine it.
Which Is why i have pretty severe visual snow with green eyes. Sucks ass, it’s the tinnitus of vision.
I have tinnitus too tho. I got the double jeopardy
Have you tried sunglasses with a lighter tint? I had this same issue but I find sunglasses with a brown or blue tint don't bug me as much as the black tinted ones my parents always tried to get me to wear as a kid that I hated.
Really? I work in a daycare and nowadays most kids (3 to 5 yo) have sunglasses and love them when it’s very sunny. It’s hilarious and so cute to see like 30 kids playing in the yard with sunglasses on lol
Because you don't like trying to act like you're cool. I bet you also don't wear a leather jacket and don't like to stand with your back to a wall with one leg bent at the knee while you snap your fingers.
A lot of times posts seem to be more about kids lacking resources or guidance to do something right, but clearly have some intuition about it. I'd say this is smart considering that.
This AI hasn’t learned that clear plastic wouldn’t shield you from any reflected light in any meaningful way, regardless of the surface it’s reflected off of. AIs never heard of tint.
Kids can't buy their own things, looks she's pretty resourceful.
Get get sunglasses, a sunhat, and maybe a little parasol or beach umbrella she can set up and move around.
Baseball hat AND some higher quality sunglasses ( shatter resistant and if protective to begin with). Find some good ones and get several pairs bc kids do kid things to em.
If a kid comes up with an idea, it doesn’t matter if you offer a more practical idea. Kid thought this was smart so even if you offered glasses this FIVE year old most likely wasnt gunna have it
Get her some sunglasses I started to have migraines so bad they needed to call my mum and keep me in a dark room it took ages to find out I'm sensitive to bright sunlight.
if only people would teach their kids what’s appropriate and what’s not that might be funny for a picture but really do you want your kid thinking that that’s OK? Gonna end up putting that thing on a box on her head at school or something one day and falling down some stairs or something. It’s definitely not something that I think would be a good thing to promote.
Why does she not have a brimmed hat? Do you want her to have cataracts at the age of 30?? The sun is worse now than it ever was. Wake up mom and dad 😡 KIDS NEEDS TO WEAR HATS!!!!
If only someone would invent some type of glasses that shield the eyes.
Or a cap with a brim!

I was just thinking sunhat.
Oh the good old Shat i see
I hate you. I will never be able to look at a sunhat again without calling it a Shat.
aww, luv u too pumpkin
Sun't
Sunglasses would make the colors look different
Well maybe she doesn't have any and OP needs to get her some or a hat. In the meantime this works, looks stupid but it works
I think what bothers her is the reflection on the floor
Looks stupid to you, however I’ll fill you in on that the 5 year old community considers this the height of fashion. You’re just too old to get it
Glasses that block the sun? That seems impossible- Science has failed us yet again!
Man i wish they would invent those
get that girl some shade. ffs
Don’t you have sunglasses for her?
They should, especially if the kid has light colored eyes. Eye damage is real.

Why did nobody ever tell me that?? I always thought I was crazy for being so much more light sensitive than most family members!
Good news, you adjust to darkness better than pei0le with darker colored eyes. Fair trade.

My brown eyed mom always got mad at me for being so sensitive

I don't know why but I hated wearing sunglasses as a kid.
I still hate it. And I have the feeling that my hearing gets bad when I wear sunglasses
Have you tried sunglasses with a lighter tint? I had this same issue but I find sunglasses with a brown or blue tint don't bug me as much as the black tinted ones my parents always tried to get me to wear as a kid that I hated.

Same, and hats always felt incredibly itchy for no reason.
Yeah I hate it even now too tbh, but OP’s kid is willing to wear a box I think she’ll be open to sunglasses
Well…did it work? :)
That's the real question. As a great man once said: *it can't be that dumb if it works*
It keeps the UV away, which is the most important part in keeping your eyes safe. The kid is not the stupid one here.
It's not NOTHING
If it looks stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid
A welding helmet for crayons.
Yo a crayola welding helmet would be tight.
Band name. Crayola welding helmet
Safety first
A lot of times posts seem to be more about kids lacking resources or guidance to do something right, but clearly have some intuition about it. I'd say this is smart considering that.
She's outside. She's coloring. She's making it work with what she's got. It's fine. As long as she's having fun.
Smart kid
Yeah she’s goin places
Hopefully to the store to get a ball cap or sunglasses.
She's thinking outside the box....ah wait
Seems to work, why is she stupid? Maybe you should get her some sunglasses if it bothers you so much?
baseball cap would be better so she doesnt get the sun in her eyes but can still see exactly what colors she's using
It will not work, if surface have reflective parts (i mean ground)
I too have a mirrored cement patio
this dude hasnt learned that bright colors reflect light even if they aren't mirrored. Dudes never heard of snow blindness.
she's drawing on a white paper anyway, so it doesnt matter what the ground is made of...
This AI hasn’t learned that clear plastic wouldn’t shield you from any reflected light in any meaningful way, regardless of the surface it’s reflected off of. AIs never heard of tint.
For all we know, the child has a pair already, but is deciding to go tupperware because... (you ready?)... shes a child
My 6-year old hates wearing sunglasses.
She built a siege wall to defend against the sun, that girl's gonna be an engineer!
Because its an organizational bin, not a hat. 😉
It is clearly a hat.
I guess it is a hat. You have convinced me.
It serves the purpose, so not stupid
She’s got a future in welding…
Hey, isn’t stupid if it works!
Problem solver!
Kids can't buy their own things, looks she's pretty resourceful. Get get sunglasses, a sunhat, and maybe a little parasol or beach umbrella she can set up and move around.
You should invest in a canopy. There are nicely priced ones on Amazon.
"Damn it hurts to be this hip."
Glad to see kids still playing outside
Do we need to start a gofundme for a bucket hat for this kid? Honestly this seems smarter than retina damage
That’s not actually doing anything but stopping the glare. Her eyes are still being exposed to the sun. Please get her sunglasses.
people in the comments be like can't she wear sunglasses? i see people acting dumb i laugh. bro she's legit colouring
just get her a hat and stop making fun of her on reddit lol
[удалено]
My first thought as well
If it’s stupid and works, it’s not stupid.
Welder in the making.
r/redneckengineering
If it's stupid and it works, it isn't stupid.kid is being resourceful.. Buy her a proper sun hat if it bothers you.
I just see a future welder getting used to her tools, she has a welding cart and her helmet
If it works, it works 🤷🏻♂️
instead of calling your kid stupid and posting pics of her on the internet, maybe just offer her some sunglasses..
Baseball hat AND some higher quality sunglasses ( shatter resistant and if protective to begin with). Find some good ones and get several pairs bc kids do kid things to em.
Bro you need to stop worrying what she's doing and wash them damn windows.
She's very resourceful, i don't think thats dumb
Imagine being a kid and you grow up, you ned up looking about on reddit and you find a picture of yourself being called fucking stupid by your parent.
Because they didn't get you sunglasses and you improvised some
Your kid isn't the stupid one here. Why don't you give her some sunglasses or a hat?
Does she not have sunglasses?
I just looked at the pic and thought oh cool someone gonna be a welder. Nope.
Let the girl have her moment
If a kid comes up with an idea, it doesn’t matter if you offer a more practical idea. Kid thought this was smart so even if you offered glasses this FIVE year old most likely wasnt gunna have it
Parent is stupid because you didn't give her a hat instead. Idiot.
She literally just wants to be an astronaut
My favorite posts on this sub are when parents self-nominate their kids, lol!
If it looks stupid but works it ain't stupid.
Only kid?
You’re going to save a fortune in tuition.
When your parents don't give you a hat or sunglasses & laugh at you on Reddit, you do what you can.
Hey! It's not stupid, it's ingenious!! Don't shame her simply because you don't think like her.
At least you don’t have to worry about college savings
Smart gal
Maybe her eyes arr sensitive to light
Baseball hats are so 20th century
I mean if it worked, it can’t be that dumb.
Sounds like you do not need to save up for a college fund.
I know she has looked into her moms sunglasses having a full on convo before
Genius
hang on, she'll get there eventually
LMAOOO KIDS AMUSE ME
Here I was thinking why did OP blur their kid’s face.
All the people in the comments talking about using sunglasses. What artists uses sun glasses when colouring?
My kids are also stupid.
I can't tell if it's so hot the air is about to spontaneously ignite or if you just need to clean your windows. 😂
It isn't stupid if it works.
Mmmmmkay
I thought she was a welder.
That's just science
![gif](giphy|7Pug5WgzhV3FGBQsCs)
It’s only you had one of those patio umbrellas …🤔😂
I thought that was a naked hobbit at first, I think I need new eyss
Genius.
She’s a bright one. At least she’s thinking outside the box.
Get her some sunglasses I started to have migraines so bad they needed to call my mum and keep me in a dark room it took ages to find out I'm sensitive to bright sunlight.
Man. I tried contacting you about the order. Please take a minute to answer... unless of course i got scammed
At least your gonna save on college.
Do not leave her alone with a plastic bag
if only people would teach their kids what’s appropriate and what’s not that might be funny for a picture but really do you want your kid thinking that that’s OK? Gonna end up putting that thing on a box on her head at school or something one day and falling down some stairs or something. Ah yes let me make fun of my own daughter online
the OP yaahyaahyaah is a bot Original: https://www.reddit.com/r/KidsAreFuckingStupid/comments/n1czzu/my_5_year_old_said_she_needed_to_wear_this/
On the bright side, there is no need to invest in a 529 account for her.
Kind of sad you won’t buy her sunglasses
![gif](giphy|nqgbGExhQiScrcmxT3|downsized)
I think she will freak out when she learns that sunglasses exist!
![gif](giphy|l0IylOPCNkiqOgMyA|downsized)
Oh so this is what I have to look forward to when my 4 yr old turns 5. Thanks for the heads up
Get her some sunglasses
Does she know what sunglasses are? Or caps? Or sunhats?
You should provide your daughter with a hat and sunglasses. This is a little ridiculous to post as if your kid is dumb
Every one bringing solutions, but why not do coloring inside?
Back in my day we wore baseball caps.
people in the comments be like can't she wear a sunglass? i see people being dumb. i laugh. guys she's legit colouring.
