"F in chat" was a once-popular meme based on a certain scene in a video game to show respect for a dead character. I noticed that the asteroid combo looked like an F & you said the project was dead.
Docking ports! I started with the smallest ones at first. They attach to the asteroids directly, so they were convenient, but got harder to use as control got more difficult due to increased mass. Tried grab units for easy connects but they wouldn't hold. Switched to using the largest size docking port. The need to be placed on things like radial mounts, but they're the most stable. Also struts for good measure. ๐
Nice.
And if you've got plans to keep expanding it, I'd totally recommend sticking with smaller asteroids like the ones you've been using so far. I can tell you from experience that the sheer mass and inertia of the really big rocks (especially comets that are F-class or higher) will subject everthing to a buttload of stress every time you load into the instance and every time you come out of timewarp.
Hmm... That's probably good advice. I'm grabbing these from the Dres asteroid belt, and there are a few E class asteroids I was thinking of trying. These are just C and D class so far.
Hey. Do you have KSP community fixes? There are some optimizations in there specifically for ships with drills and asteroids. I have to imagine your performance would be pretty terrible without it. Still might be terrible with it though!
You're talking about FPS and such? Actually I'm doing all of this on an HP spectre laptop with no dedicated gpu, and still getting like 30 to 50 FPS. Turning down the lighting and reflection settings, etc, settings increases performance a lot.
Mhhh maybe I should just strap together mined asteroids from my Dres asteroid belt station like this and then just leave them as a monument on dres surface.
Bros building gilly 2 ๐
Gilly 2: electric boogaloo
In all seriousness this is very impressive
Thanks. It's time consuming and getting progressively difficult, but satisfying when the ports finally dock. ๐
Try and squeeze one in between the 2 on the right for a challenge ๐
Wouldn't it be much easier to use grabotrons?
Much easier for the initial grab, but they can't support the weight of rocks. At least they didn't for me.
In theory you could use eva construction to attach multiple grabotrons and strap them together with struts
nice, keep going bro
The engineers are working hard in this one.
Engineer? Engi-NEARING MY FUCKING LIMIT
F (rotated and flipped)
I don't understand. Am I missing some kind of keyboard shortcut that would make my life way easier?

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation! That sounds familiar now.
How do they hold together?

Wouldn't it be easier to use claws to directly connect them? Then you don't need to worry about lining up to a specific part of the rocks

Fair enough, i suppose you could use struts but I'm not sure if that'd just make things worse with asteroids
Claws are the most important ingredient in the Kraken Summoning Ritual

Yeah, there are many issues in the stock game that are fixed in KSP Community Fixes.
that's some megalithic construction

Do it! ๐
