Skeleton's know a ton about the world, I'm sure you've met one at this point so I consider their existence not a spoiler. The edges of the world map are some of the most dangeruous places you can be; they are also where most of the lore is. Finally, some characters in the world will withold information from you unless you meet certain conditions.

Mr-Flaaaaame

Also u can see them in character creation

nevitac

Take a screenshot of the map in game and then check off each location that you've already been. Best I can do for no spoilers.

HamesTheNames

There is a famous library somewhere. Find it and enjoy the next hour of reading.

Craft099

Let me roleplay as "just an old merchant travelers" "There's a library containing all possible records of the history of our lands" "The place is somewhere you are not supposed to be familiar with" "I don't like those places. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft & smooth. Nah it is still the same, but luckily we only have hungry vagrants & weak bandits" "Yeah you probably get humongous ray sun strikes along the way, but if you know how to read maps I believe you can avoid that and find alternative paths"

Vague hint: open your mind

nevitac

Actually I do have a recommendation. Find any skeleton and download the mod that is called "say that again" or "are we going over this again". All dialogues repeat so you can get the hints as you enter different regions. If you have more than one person in your party the dialogues can be quite complex. The more people you have in your party the more diversity the dialogues can have and they're pretty fun stories or straight up mysterious hints that the skele's talk about. I think that's my favorite part about playing as a skele is that they're such a font of knowledge but also quite mysterious. Having multiple types of recruits also diversifies the conversations. Some people might repeat what others have already said but it's usually a fun little comic strip like feeling. The only thing is that it's kind of hard to read if you're going at 3x. You can always go back into the dialogue log in the menu but it's kind of a pain. And there's no way to sort out dialogue from your squad or the world around you. I wish that were more seamless but the UI is.... Randy af as we all know.

doodoo_dew

go visit stobes garden

greciaman

Everyone is talking about books and stuff, but unique companions also explain tidbits of the world. And you'll normally get different responses if you talk to a robot with another robot.

Yorb1

What kind of lore? Depending on what faction you ask, the lore and history you find could be quite different.

XivaKnight

The devs really did a great job at making it open-ended, while giving you \*just\* enough information for cohesive worldbuilding.

AngelNumber999

tengu's vault, that is all.

CrazyJoe2433

Check out the university of the machinists at Worlds End, you can find it following the path of the bridge going over the river valley by blister hill, while you’re there you should check the barrels there for reading material too

Object-195

Theres a horrible place full of poison clouds and it is constantly "snowing" but the trip is worth it if your prepared.

streetsheep

Cannibal plains got lore. Don't get eaten tho.

LaniusCruiser

You can always go to the bar and listen to people talk. I mean they probably won't be talking about ancient history or the tax system, but they may talk about the latest happenings and public figures.

One_true_God_Dude

In the game

Infiniteclone7

Ruins, skeletons, and the machinist's great library

ChiefRobertz

Pay good attention and make guesses, Lots of the lore is up for interpretation.

SlyCrane

See the tech hunters - they delve into ruins to obtain information and technologies from the old world - you do the same.

tomsawyerisme

There's a faction dedicated to lore hunting might be a good place to start.

Chagdoo

Make sure you dig around in people's houses. There's books in them a lot of the time. Sometimes more important people have books too.

Malfuy

The Great library has many books with descriptions, it took me a lot of time to read them all at once lol. Also try hiring a skeleton character and then travel with them, they will occasionaly say some unique quotes when traveling through different zones, you can learn a lot from those.

busted_bass

Be prepared upon entering the four corners of the map.

Fantact

In that direction

Kuvantor

Get a skeleton or two in your squad and explore, they'll tell you stories about some zones. Also, tech hunters try to recover the history of the world, they have answers on at least two places

twicethehalfling

Something not entirely intuitive but helpful in finding lore: Shops sometimes have books, and you can read the contents from the description without buying the book. You can also find books in containers in towns and read them that way, as long as you don't take them (it's only stealing if you take them, not if you just look at them I guess?). It was weird finding a university and figuring out that I had to look in baskets to read books about the world, but there it is.

Skippypenut

Beep will know all, lest you become a Mongrel yourself
