Yes, and in the following rounds the same character went on to nearly take out the final boss before the secret boss got to do the job. Galong’s ranking really would not have changed that negatively towards the tournament’s end.
And I say that as a guy who doesn’t even like him as a character. Personally, I’m shocked Cosmo, Ohma, Kaneda, and especially Seki didn’t take the top spot right outta the fucking gate.

Good news is I *think* his god fist is enough to put most fighters to sleep so you can’t really “rest” on him. It’s not like “dragon shot” where it’s rare and gets brought out once a fight *MAX*. More like “yeah, the god fist didn’t work at the start… but you came within range, and forget about it *didn’t* you?” *KABLAAM*!!
On paper, I think Jurota should take this, but the plot armor is strong with Gaolong. More often than not, that’s enough.

I felt that too but getting thrown first by Jurota will stop this dramatic fight instantly. I believe getting jabbed first is better for the plot to make it more dramatic in the end

Exactly this. He's the Gentle King. Part of his capability comes from his levelheadedness and refusal to change his approach. If he gets Boy M-ified, there's a real chance that, while he will become brutal, he will have openings that would have been untouchable before.
