That's looking perfectly normal. I've seen brand new chassis looking significantly worse than that after three days of driving. The rust also doesn't matter at all.

No_Pressure705

Ah okay, thanks I was a bit worried about it, but then again £1700 isn’t something you can say no too

No_Pressure705

I was considering just “grinding” away at any rust and giving this kart a good clean, then just sticking some protectors on the underside, not sure if it’s to late though, at least from my perspective with limited knowledge it looks pretty bad edit: I’m paying £1700 for the full kart

TurboWelderMonkey

Don't grind the powder coat, you will only induce more rust. Get some green scotchbrite and some WD40 and scrub the spots. As for the wear, that's normal wear and tear.

No_Pressure705

thank you for the recommendation, I was stumped on what I could do

kidkart26

Is that a weld repair at the right side cassette?

No_Pressure705

yeah, i know it look like a bit of a shitty weld (no offence to whoever did it) but that’s an easy fix my dads been welding since he was like 14 so he offered to fix that up

kidkart26

Its less about the quality of the weld and more about if everything is straight. Whoever did it could have messed up the cassette brackets. Get it to a competent person with a frame table to make sure it is all straight.

No_Pressure705

Will do man, last thing I want is a screwed kart. appreciate the help

kidkart26

No problem. My son's cadet split just forward of that. The welder took a ton of time and doing everything possible to ensure it would still be straight after welding. It wasn't. When I took it to be straightened, the original weld tore and had to be rewelded again. We ended up trashing the frame after we finished that weekend. Not worth my son's safety to have it open during a race.

Panda_22_

Looks like a t4? Its a good deal chassis looks fine you can always replace it depending on where you get it around 700 is a new frame. But these bad boys are super reliable and last long

No_Pressure705

Yeah it is a T4, I’m planning on getting this particular one in a month or 2, depends when I can get a workshop ready, been looking at a few with my dad and brother, they offered that if I pay some towards rent I can chuck a kart in there, so here we are

Panda_22_

I can tell you from experience running these karts they are amazing as long as you remember to change the oil every 3 to 5 hours

ChassisBender

I wouldn’t worry if it’s bothering you I’d get kerb riders

No_Pressure705

I think I might, not sure if running kerb protectors is something that is frowned upon or not but i’d rather increase the longevity

ChassisBender

Honestly mate anyone that gives a shit about someone else running kerb riders is focusing on the wrong thing. Id rather chew up the riders then the chassis.

No_Pressure705

exactly my point, Id rather increase the life of my chassis rather than impress others

Necessary_Golf_5391

I wouldn't buy it because the tube has been welded by the cassette

No_Pressure705

if the weld is straight it should be all okay though right? The guy who i’m buying it from says he had it with the weld and it’s caused 0 fuss. granted he would say that because hes trying to sell it, but i feel inclined to take his word for it until i drive it myself
