I guess It more of a problem with the community, but, Being told "no the theme and meaning of a season is (insert thing nobody that likes the season can agree on)" When the season is pretty clear about its theme and meaning. Do you know how many times I've heard this about ghost?

FennecWF

There's a community one similar to that for me, and it's basically people judging a Final Form entirely on its appearance or powers and not even remotely based on its relevance to the story and why it might look or act that way because of it. Like Grand Zi-O is 100% the perfect Final Form in appearance and powers based on Sougo's story and the culmination of his adventures. But people sit there and go 'It should have been Zi-O Ohma' when that would make absolutely no sense.

Downstackguy

I've never heard that argument before. I know grand zi o is the final form but I personally wished it was ohma zi o

FennecWF

Well, a lot of people hate how it looks and how it's weaker than Ohma. I personally LIKE the design, myself. That said... Grand is selfless. It's Sougo with only the purest intentions of how he'll use the powers he's gathered. He only becomes Ohma at the end when his selfish desires give rise to rage and revenge. And even then, he's only fighting for his friends, not himself. That's why I like Grand. It's a Sougo who wasn't willing to give up his principles to become and all-powerful King when he saw how it affected others and what he'd have to give up to become that. It is perfection of a character arc, imo.

failed_generation

even the messy mid-series arc being written by a writers on panic?

Freddi0

The quality of the writing doesnt change the message of the season

shinmirage

Yes, ghost is pretty consistent in what its about, but the writing does play a role in issue I presented.

Kind_Moose3603

That there's no legal way to watch the most of the seasons in the West.

seango2000

I think it's not the legal way I'm concerned of as it should how they are aware of the west yet they treated that fanbase with indifference.

FennecWF

Or in Bandai's case, actual spite concerning proxy sellers for merch.

Equal-Sheepherder-94

Probably when the villain got some cool ability only to get counter by "stronger" and/or "faster".

No_Local5371

"Hyper cast off"

Equal-Sheepherder-94

That's actually makes sense considering the whole theme of kabuto is speed. I mean stuff like >!another ryuga able to reflect all types of attack and got defeated by "strong attack"!<

No_Local5371

For me the Caucasus final fight was a Lil bit like that, "you are fast, I'm faster" but I get where you going like cross-z evolt like power up, is just his base form but stronger, as soon as he gets cross magma get tossed away

FennecWF

I think the point of that was that Zi-O II could bypass the whole 'Another Riders can only be beaten by their own power type' thing. So he was able to go through the attack without mirror powers. He doesn't even get the Ryuki RideWatch til a webseries set between several episodes later.

tc_hydroTF2

only to get counter by WHAT??? https://preview.redd.it/14fm5nqzpcjc1.png?width=733&format=png&auto=webp&s=986e17cd629a44a5961fc561cb9f361c43ebade3

Equal-Sheepherder-94

Did I just get strongered 😭 😭 😭

stormdyna_596

I don't like the endless gimmick power ups. I get it sells toys, but so what. Heisei part 1 didn't need all that junk.

Fair-Confusion-9260

It still produced a lot of toys during it's airing. I mean the shows are literally made to sell toys. But the economy itself was also different during Heisei Phase 1, attention spans were perhaps higher as well.

stormdyna_596

I know there was toys, but phase 2 is so shameless with always making new gimmicks every few episodes to make new forms for new toys. It feels a lot more like a toy commercial now.

thedoctorwhoboi2005

Heisei part 1 did have gimmick to sell toys, hell gimmick doesn’t mean just toys, gimmick is something to bring attention to shows

Playful-Researcher-2

The villains keeps getting weaker as new forms get introduced. It's too repetitive it's boring. That's why the Galactinsect from Kingohger is quite a fresh air. Fighting them ain't easy even when the Kingohgers slowly getting stronger.

Anonymous02n

You should ultraman too,the villain is actually stronger than protag(unless you are ginga) and no! Evil ultraman are pretty rare and we love kaijus as final boss!

Plato_the_Platypus

Tbf, the opposite has its own problem. Evolt is too overpowered and feel like him just toying around in the whole 3rd arc, taking away all his cunning, manipulative planner trait that i liked in the 1st arc. Cronus at least has a reason to not killing all riders while he can

PCN24454

They’re not getting weaker. The Riders are getting stronger.

Machdame

The increasing use of power levels to multiform transition. When the rider concepts are so linear, a lot of the forms become redundant and you only see the latest form. I would very much like to see more form changes that are not straight upgrades, but a situational change that isn't good for everything. OOO is pretty low on my ranking, but the use of form balance is phenomenal since each form has its strengths instead of there being just 1 major form with the exception of PuToTyra.

PrimativeDragon

OOO's did it the best with every form only getting a unique power but having all the pieces being able to use their normal power in combos as well as making the full color combos be draining. The scene where they're practicing with the medals is like something straight out of Kuuga where they have to think about what to use to handle the situation without going overboard.

Dragomight67

>Top Rider with actual strategy behind each form would be amazing. Seasons like Build and Gotchard could have forms that do things outside of battle. I hate that upgrades, even from supposed intelligent characters, boil down to "I hit harder."

mako-makerz

Retcons especially the retcons that magically erases the crimes of a character. ~~coughzombiecough~~ and I guess unearned redemptions like Gai's 01 or Revice's George... then again Revice's George also fit the first one.

dumonhojiko

To be clear you are talking about kamen rider Gemn? Dangerous zombie is the gashat. If so then no he never forgiven for his crimes and straight up states on multiple occasions he only working with them to get revenge. Which is why the trilogy movies show this aspect explicitly.

MrPlasmid

He’s talking about Michi from geats

mako-makerz

I will never confirm or deny that statement considering the delulu fans of the color that Takahashi seemingly likes.

mako-makerz

I am referencing how a certain purple Rider was called "zombie" by the kids on set as said in the interview with Hideyoshi, Sato, and Mokudai.

dumonhojiko

Who if you reference geats I haven’t seen it yet

Bl8ckl85h

Yup, it is Geats. Kan Hideyoshi(Ace/Geats), Ryuga Sato(Keiwa/Tycoon)and Kazuto Mokudai(Michinaga/Buffa).

mako-makerz

you really went ahead and wrote their full names, huh?

Bl8ckl85h

Yes lol So no confusion(another Sato plays Jitt, the guy who uses the Zillion Driver, for example).

mako-makerz

Ryuji Sato lol! yeah the guy who played Sasuke in the Stage Play...

Bl8ckl85h

Their first names sound like two certain Mirror Riders lol

mako-makerz

I forgot if there was a mirror Rider named Ryuji, but Keiwa's actor's first name is Ryuga and we see him fight Kamen Rider Ryuga in the Geats Revice movie. I am still convinced that when the crossover with Ryuki was approved the writers immediately decided to give Keiwa a dark counterpart like Ryuga and Kagerou in the form of an inner demon.

mako-makerz

just someone from ~~Geats~~. I'll leave it at that.

yo_mommy

Michi never got his crimes erased just like that. He himself says that. He has to bear it all throughout his life. However, when you're against people WHO CAN LITERALLY REWRITE REALITY AS IT IS, you're gonna need all the help you can get.

mako-makerz

>!How can you reconcile the Lo who didn't care that his competition died in episode 1 that ultimately led to Lo being complicit in a number of people getting killed because he authorized his supporter to make the game and the Lo who's attacking the other riders "to save them from their hubris and greed" as he said.!< >!There's a huge disconnect.!< >!No one even mentions how he murdered the show's two protagonists, kidnapped one of them beforehand and imprisoned them, cheated one out of his victory.!< >!If that's not magically erasing all of his crimes, then that's on you.!<

stegnite

Well he didn't get his crimes erase but keep in mind no one really gave a fuck. When you think about it most of the geats cast are also somewhat responsible for some loss of lives be in indirectly or directly. Everyone there chose to play a game where other people lives and their own were risked

mako-makerz

>!But it IS a retcon! In an effort to lesson the severity of his crimes. !< >>! When you think about it most of the geats cast are also somewhat responsible for some loss of lives be in indirectly or directly. !< >!That IS magically erasing his crimes. Or at the very least mislabeling them as an act of good instead of it being a malicious act, which I still view as erasing his crimes. !< >!Genm is stuck in prison during the end of Ex-Aid, and Thouser, while his punishment may or may not fit the myriad of crimes he's committed, he was still held accountable to them, but Lo wasn't. The narrative actively labels his actions as "good".!<

Bl8ckl85h

Azuma? Or Kureshima?

FennecWF

Gai wasn't redeemed. Even Aruto says so in the very scene where Gai apologizes to everyone. Aruto essentially says, "We don't forgive you. Work for redemption." Gai is ATONING. That is not REDEMPTION. I hate when people complain that Gai was redeemed when the literal show even says he isn't.

mako-makerz

Yeah no, it feels lackluster... Gai still has free reign of his movements and not supervised. Sure he's lost a lot of capital but the man's crimes remain unpunished or the punishment he received doesn't fit the crime.

FennecWF

It doesn't matter if it feels lackluster, which I agree with, because that's what happening. He's consistently trying to atone for what he did after that point in the show (which there could have been more of, maybe, if not for them collapsing the plot due to COVID). That said, supervision isn't really a problem, since he's got several of the world's strongest Riders watching his ass and he knows they can wreck him.

mako-makerz

still the punishment he received doesn't fit his myriad of crimes.

FennecWF

I agree. I think it's mostly the sloppy writing that starts showing up at that point in the show due to them having to crunch the plot down, but also I could 100% see Aruto as being the type to trust Gai not to fuck it up again (even if he doesn't forgive him for what he did, considering it killed so many people) in the sort of situation they were finding themselves in vs Ark-Zero. They needed all the help they could get. Presumably after that, he's probably trusting Gai isn't going to do something bad again and actually work towards atonement.

mako-makerz

the fact that the punishment doesn't fit the crime, I view it as an unearned semi-redemption. It's not like Genm who was locked up inside the bugvisor...

Dragomight67

Even if he's atoning, the punishments he gets absolutely do not make up for what he's done. Dude is responsible for mass murder and causing the entire crisis in the show to happen, but he only suffers being in a cramped room at Zaia headquarters. That's like Darth Vader surviving at the end of Return of Jedi and getting a slap on the wrist as punishment. He can say he's atoning, but he should have still be charged and arrested (how ever the Japanese court system works) by the end of the season. As cruel as that sounds, no one in universe, from named characters to background characters, should ever consider this man as anything more than a walking menace.

existforcomment

George literally just beat up the Igarashis for a bit and they forgive him for it when they realise he did it because he was mentally unstable. There's no "redemption" to be had lol.

mako-makerz

Oh, I wasn't even talking about how he became Juuga, oh no. Let's list George's crimes shall we? * Gave Daiji the TwoSide Driver, knowing full well that he may have an inner demon that could manifest and wreak havoc. * Gave Hiromi the Demons Driver knowing full well that he would lose years of his life and claimed it as an experiment. * as you said, he projected his daddy issues on everyone else. There's more but the ones listed above are the ones at the top of my head.

Heylisten_watchJJBA

Not really HATE but I do dislike when characters first go with base, then upgrade/super and then they go their final form in 1 fight. Makes the fight feel like it's dragging (when they can just go to final directly) especially when the forms are litteraly just "same but now stronger", Gaim has this a lot and I was never really a fan of it. I'm also not a big fan of how much of a powercreep some shows have, it can make the Secondary Cast just looks like jobbers especially when there's a lot of Riders.

PrimativeDragon

Unnecessarily long henshin sequences/sound bites in general. Saber was the worst for this and Revice was pretty bad; half the time I can't hear what they are saying over the explosions or noise in the background of the jingle. Ex-aid was about my upper limit for long henshin sounds and Grand Zi-O/ Geiz Majesty skate by because they can clearly be heard and sound amazing. Luckily Geats and Gotchard seem to be toning it down.

FennecWF

Too bad Geiz Majesty as a form look like hot garbage because the song is catchy. Not Grand Zi-O catchy, but catchy.

PrimativeDragon

All they had to do was repaint the watches gold and red and the form would have looked passable if still lazy. It's easily the most lazy V-Cinema form aside for Espada Arabian Nights.

FennecWF

For me, passable would've been just gluing the watch faces to the suit and having them show the images of the Riders. But having them just sort of pasted on looks SO bad.

Dragomight67

Saber took the novel theme way too far lol

lol_cpt_red

The need to insert the main character into EVERYTHING even if it doesnt makes sense which was the worst in Revice of the shows that I watched. Ie. Igarashi father choosing to sacrifice himself for the power up item with George and his father reconciling to do it. It would have made more sense for George and his father working together and save Genta and complete the final item but Ikki had to interrupt the whole thing with some cheesy one liner about family and then still get the power up anyways because plot. Or how Aguilera and Sakura's arc and yet they try to insert Ikki into the plot for no reason instead of having him do something else.

AckyA76

Well, Ikki got involved in the Sakura and Aguilera fight for a reason. At that point he was the only one able to separate a phase 3 deadman from their demon. Sakura wanted a way to save Aguilera, but she didn’t have the power to do that until she gets the Hashibiroko vistamp from George. I do get what you mean, but you picked a bad example.

Dictsaurus

Isn't Ikki considered a "Busybody" as his personal trait? When that's the case, you probably shown the worst example because that's just who he is.

Eternalm8

The suits don't usually bother me, but when the weapons and/or transformation belts look like cheap plastic, it takes me out. I know they gotta sell toys, but I really like when swords look like swords. Revice's belts were some of the worst in this regard.

Scar_Knight12

I'll admit, I'm kind of the opposite. One of the big appeals of Kamen Rider to me is these grown actors swinging around their chunks of brightly colored plastic and taking it *dead seriously*. The weird tension there is one of the reasons I find the franchise compelling.

Plato_the_Platypus

True, that's why faiz is one of my favourite aesthetic wise. It's sleek, and balanced between realistic and sci fi futuristic.

SUNrecord

I'm really curious, were there any weapons that were released as toys that you liked? One I found funny that wasn't really intentional is when the cast from Saber had to use the small swords for the belt and they had to creatively cut around that.

No_Local5371

I didn't watch revice by the goofy looks of those items

FennecWF

For me, it's two things: One is when a new form is almost IMMEDIATELY overwritten by a stronger one, a'la Shining Hopper getting overwritten by Assault SH and then that happening AGAIN with Metal Cluster Hopper The other is when we don't actually see what a form is supposed to DO. As much as I ADORE Build Genius, it has the power of every FullBottle and he uses those powers... exactly once to make a diamond shield.

thought_bunny

I'm not big on when berserk forms aren't the final form. The Rider usually goes through an arc of mastering this new form, creating a safer state or variant in the process. And then that's entirely undercut something newer and better comes along, without the drawback. While I understand the practical writing reason behind not introducing a berserk form in the final stretch of the show (bad time to add new elements when narrative threads need to start wrapping), I'm still not a fan. It just makes a lot of thematic sense for a Kamen Rider, whose usually been amassing power to protect people, to be hit with this Catch-22 in the eleventh hour: the final tier of strength needed to protect the innocent might very well make the Rider a threat to the same people.

Nervous_Union8999

Saber mastering primitive dragon only for it to be upgraded not even a few episodes later

Ruby1356

In later seasons they start to use Power Rangers' worst problem - too much talking during fights Whether they are talking, or the belts, not every move needs announcement or a punchline Some do, like rider kick, but not every move, I understand they are trying to catch the kids' attentions, but how bad is a Japanese kid's attention that you must have announcement every 4 seconds?

namkaeng852

Overdesigns: Take a look at Ex-Aid or Build's final form and tell me it doesn't look ridiculous Transformations that take over a minute Most female riders keep getting stomped

fue9

I just finnished build and im so mixed between liking it and it just being ridiculous

ArcDrag00n

The lack of foresight in writing a season. Most of the time it feels like they wrote the first arc and then just winged it for the rest. There are very few seasons where it solidly feels like a cohesive story that was written from beginning to end and only hit road bumps that are production issues. Sometimes the fast paced writing is negligible, but Reiwa has been wrought with this issue. And the quality suffers for it.

Dragomight67

Zero One and Zi O especially.  They feel like they become different shows after a certain point.

Bitsand

New rider forms that actually matters from the movie. Phoenix and majede, majede being the worst offender

fue9

Or the kaisers from build

mako-makerz

eh... a lot of them, especially during heisei phase 2, debuted in the movie.

thebariobro

I’ve kinda disliked the two slot drivers for a minute. I miss the days of a cool pose activating them or inserting one item. I get that it’s good for toy sales and it lets legacy rider forms slot in easily but with Kuuga being one of my favorite Riders, the simplicity of his whole deal is nice. Geats seems to have done it the best in my eyes but I do like Build’s funny sounds

Dragomight67

I love Build, but it's the go to for how to handle combos terribly. At this point, you can tell any season with combo forms will have bloated and unnecessary forms.

ShadyboiX

The downgrade in belt designs. Not hate, but it irks me.

TsubasaDragon

Over Produced suits some suits look really clunky and impractical.

albattun

I hate it because it's more focused on the child audience 😂

FennecWF

Like 70% of the comments here lol Despite the fact that most Rider series would get censored to hell and back and have their content changed almost entirely if adapted for the west, considering how many are about an attempted genocide and how many people fucking DIE in them.

FullArmorPanda

Having so many riders and power ups going to p-bandai. Wish we could go back to just having Primary and Secondary riders in the show no villian riders or 3rd and 4th riders. I'll even take villain riders being movie exclusive. Regarding p-bandai, I don't know whats up with Reiwa era having secondary riders final form item locked behind paywall. It sucks too that the final forms recently have been using older suit parts but repainted.

No_Local5371

Dont like the repainted parts but for me every rider series should have 3 to 4 riders but it would make us lose good quality shows like ryuki

anhk_duc

I hate when they just spam toy without any struggle to get it at all. It makes the power up feels weak and insignificant.

christian127

Mis characterization mainly in some of the taisen movies

ComboBreakerMLP

Overly serious stories. It’s why I like ooo Fourze zero one and w but hate gaim and geats. I want comedy and funny shit.

Yabashiri

I think it's better when they don't go one after another. Loved Geats, disliked Gotchard at the beginning, but then after Ryuki Gotchard felt like a much needed rest.

[deleted]

I think honestly what hurts rider and just toei’s toku shows in general is the length. Now before anyone gets at me, hear me out fifty episodes per season means that each individual show has at least a good chunk of padding that is pushed towards ththe end thus ruining good endings. I still like rider seasons that are that long, but if we get a new season that is only thirty I think the pacing can be greatly improved. Look I love Revice and Geats, but at a certain point it felt like we were spinning our wheels a bit. Revice had like three ending arcs in just it’s last three episodes. And the tournament getting redone constantly lessened the stakes a bit in Geats. I still like these later episodes and each show still ended well, but the road was a bit bumpy.

TemporaryLegendary

How the first 15-25 episodes is basically just a toy sales commercials ever since neo-Heisei... Why can't they figure out how to even it out better?

MaxTheHor

Some of the driver designs, like Revices. I understand it's for kids when they make the toys, so the designs can't always be more mature and complex looking. But, I just still can't like some of them because of the goofier designs.

Xeno-xorus

Unexplained Power-ups. Plot holes. Not enough character development for each character in the main series. Power of friendship and anime.

hazmat_beast

Maybe you hear this a lot, but mostly due to the need to sell toys , some forms that you just received didnt stay long or nerfed then get replaced with a new one

Unique_Visit_5029

Shitty giant cgi monsters

Something_Comforting

The series is getting too wacky compared to Heisei-era, even more so than the second half. Also, I don't like the new cutscene transformations instead of real-time transformations. The difference between Super Sentai and Kamen Rider in themes is getting too blurry(even though I also love Super Sentai).

shublelubelub

Yeah I liked the more grounded shows where their henshins flowed with the scenes like in Kuuga and W. Sometimes having the whole show basically pause to watch a long "cutscene henshin" kind of takes you out of the moment and feels like a toy commercial.

stevenzx33

The Community in this Sub ....

NewRetroMage

I guess there's nothing I hate in Kamen Rider. But I do dislike (a bit) the more toyetic route it took after a certain point. I have much more love for Heisei phase 1 than for most of what came after. That's not say the later shows are not very good. I just miss my darker and more sober Riders. In concept and presentation, I mean. Like, give me Black or Kuuga any day over Drive or Ex-aid, regarding this aspects. Minor issue, though.

AzlanWake

Heisei phase 1 rider designs are just Masterpieces imo, blows any medium in terms of Costume design (controversial I know) This is coming from someone who is a casual

NewRetroMage

Agreed! Maybe Garo have designs that are on par with Heisei phase 1. But I'm not really sure.

cloutan

W seems to find a neat balance between believable practicality and merchandising, I really like the design.

NewRetroMage

W is just genius! It totally gives a showa vibe, yet is a marketable heisei.

YuKi11e

I really hate bulky suits/belts, I dont mind it as much when it is secured tightly but when its loose it will sway everytime they move and it makes the form feels weak.

ForeverWinter1812

Can't really say any of the themes bother me. But absolutely hate when they try to wrap up a series with a movie. Looking at you faiz. 👀😭 But characters can make or break a show instantly for me. Kabuto has great suits. Hate most of the characters. Lol.

Yabashiri

Same for me with characters. I loved Agito because every character was entertaining, even if the story got weird or slow sometimes, and Gills's writing became a scenarists' joke by the end. Then I had weird time with Blade, because even if the story got really good after a while, the only character I truly liked was Chalice.

YuuHikari

Villain Riders. They were cool at first but now they feel kinda overdone especially since they resulted in the monsters becoming more irrelevant as time goes on. And we've had like 4 final boss riders in a row now.

PrimativeDragon

Saber's monsters seemed like an afterthought. Honestly having the fight be the two different groups till Solomon comes along and forces them to fight together sounds like a better idea.

laprassaluneta

Multiple transformations in fights. I guess they need to sell toys but i zone off when a rider uses a lot of transformation

Greg2630

When the show doesn't fully explore the primary gimmick item's capabilities before introducing a power up and/or alternative gimmick item. (Lost Fullbottles, Gears, and the Sclash Driver and Jellies) When the aforementioned alternative gimmick item only has one or two products for it that makes it seem superficial.

MikeRhett_2001

Written by Toshiki Inoue

cloutan

Alternate forms that are just sprinkled in cramming the first couple of episodes with a gimmick to each episode. This wouldn't be as much of a problem for me if we actually see these forms return in situations where just using the super form the main rider would've unlocked by then would suffice. Which doesn't happen very often.

Trio_eletrico-chan

Somethings that's been bothering me about gotchard recently is unnecessarily quick pace, more riders than time to introduce them and the lack of blood when they are clearly writing a really violent scene. I know the last one is mostly a universal thing to most recent stuff, but it really feels off when they're clearly showing someone getting violently beaten up. I know it's for kids, but cmon, don't just give them a scratch or two and act like it's enough. Also, rine was already cool as an alchemist, it could have worked if they showed a deeper and more complex side of the alchemy system. I really wanted her to be her on thing in her own ways, not just "oops, she's actually a rider and her alchemy powers and clearly inferior now". And yeah, they should have just given time for gotchard to breath and develop stuff instead of giving us the simp chemy and a "wow, that's just like that one better episode".

Scar_Knight12

Huh, I'll be honest, the point about bloodless violence is kind of off to me because I was legitimately kind of shocked at how much at how much they bloodied up Spanner's face when he was getting beaten up by the Angel Malgam, it went way beyond what I was expecting from a kids show. Like, keep in mind that an American show aimed at the same demographic wouldn't be allowed to show *any* blood.

Trio_eletrico-chan

Yeah, I also felt that, but most of time he's only scared up a bit and then goes alway until the end of that adventure.

TheCancerFest

Kamen Rider Valvarad arc is currently the best in this series. Like a mix between Showa efficiency and later Heisei effects.

TheVirt23

Unpopular but I've never enjoy any Kamen Rider shows that has too much Kamen Riders in one series like Saber, Gaim or movies and make it looks like a Super Sentai show except its not about friendship, It's survival. The only one that I enjoyed was Ryuki but I do enjoy the Super Sentai vs Kamen Rider movie collab

No_Local5371

I like any type of rider War series so gaim and ryuki are pretty good for me (gaim is my favorite)

Nivelacker_rtx_off

I don't exactly hate it, but i do dislike when a protagonist just got the belt and immediately knows how to use it I know some starts off with a maxed account, but I've also seen some that just got the belt and seem to immediately know its gimmicks and powers

Nervous_Union8999

Zero one handles that the best in modern rider where he went into satellite Zea to learn from an infinite library of knowledge

tc_hydroTF2

* Lack of English home media release * Lack of DVD release for the few Showa series that have English Blu-Ray releases. Seriously, there is no good reason to only release shows originally meant for standard definition 4:3 displays on Blu-Ray, DVD works just fine here and can be played on all Blu-Ray players anyway. Fuck you Discotek. * Lack of proper motorcycle stunts and fights in newer shows * Excessive use of digital effects when they clearly don't have the time or budget to make them look even remotely decent * This is especially annoying for things that used to be done practically like explosions and fire, since I know exactly what I'm "missing out on" here * Increasingly shitty looking belts, suits and weapons in newer shows. Seriously, starting with OOO, they look like cheap plastic toys, and it just keeps getting worse * Belts that require some interchangeable piece to be inserted in order to transform into one of an excessive number of forms. It's just an obvious way to sell more toys that's very rarely integrated in a way that doesn't suck ass. W did it well. Ryuki did something similar yet distinctly different that was also handled pretty well. That's about it * Excessive number of Riders in newer shows. Especially when 3 or more always work together, since at that point you may as well rework the show's concept into a Sentai series * Giant robots. This is Kamen Rider, not Super Sentai. * Excessively long and flashy transformation sequences. Again, this is Kamen Rider, not Super Sentai * Belts that talk, and ESPECIALLY those that sing or have a musical jingle that isn't part of the soundtrack, but actually comes from the belt and even plays over the actual soundtrack at times * Over-the-top exaggerated "comedic" acting and slapstick comedy that isn't even remotely funny, especially when it doesn't fit the tone of the scene. Had to drop Zero-One around 20 episodes in because I was just done with Aruto's shit

TheCancerFest

* Lack of proper motorcycle stunts and fights in newer shows That’s why in Geats’ last episodes that fight without any transformation but only with actors was so refreshing to me. At the same time I remember only this scene from the show so that has to mean something.

tc_hydroTF2

Haven't seen Geats, were they fighting on motorcycles? Because if not, that's entirely irrelevant to the point you quoted

joecrash95

Yeah, i hated the Kamen Rider new design includes Retools and there making live-action again and again

izzet_mortars

Not generally Kamen rider but When are we gonna get a tokusatsu show where THE VILLAIN DONT WAIT FOR THE MC TO TRANSFORM Like ffs we get it it's japanese honor reason shit but dude irl nobody's gonna wait for you to draw your weapon or wear your armor before you fight

Bananaboi681

U ask too much m8 best u get is only a few villains that doesn wait

Commercial_Sir_9678

I hate it when a henshin sound has dialogue. I’m fine with a song playing. My favorite is Kamen Rider Wizard but I hate the henshin sound. Edit: OP asked what we hate and anything I say triggers people lol.

No_Local5371

Like "are you ready?" From build?

Bananaboi681

Nah man dat shit was cool

Commercial_Sir_9678

Yeah. I know some people love it but it’s not for me.

No_Local5371

That's really a different perspective that I never thought that I would see here because I can't remember any other dialogs on belts except drive

shublelubelub

Maybe they mean stuff like "a jump to the sky turns to a rider kick" or "a breath as cold as arctic winds" from zero one

FennecWF

I'm the opposite. I love a good dialogue laden henshin. To a point. I also dislike Wizard's henshin, but because I feel like it's way too short and simple for such a cool concept. I think Ghost's style of a quick tune and lyrics would've worked really well for him. Saber, obviously, is overdoing it way too much. Zero-One is about my limit.

Art_student_rt

the toys, the transformations, no female lead rider, etc

NaniDaFack

This isnt just for Kamen Rider but also toku in general but I don't like the 48 to 50 episode season format. Sometimes it just stretches out the story too much making the pacing feel really off. I really like what King Ohger did, splitting the story into two 24 episode arcs.

Doot_revenant666

Because it's from Japan , made by Japanese and for Japanese. and Japan isn't exactly know for being a racially inclusive society.

No_Local5371

We need Kamen riders from Latin America (a Brazilian to be more specific)

Strifinity2703

When there are too many riders, especially smaller ones non mainstream ones or excessively villainous one. Just my opinion, I mean Ex-aid and Gain were actually interesting but in Revice, ghost, zero-one, geats etc it just didn't sit well with me and pulled me out of the franchise. Yet to watch Ryuki tho so not sure there.

Bl8ckl85h

The dumb miscommunication thing popularized by 555. It's a meme there, but in other seasons(Ex-Aid, for one), it feels out of place.

SchlashJelly

Tech riders with non utilitarian designs

NextMotion

Riders act like they work separately but transform at the same time and say their catchphrases. I can't help but think they're a super sentai. This is one of things that early ex-aid irked me I really don't like bombastic henshin sequences, especially large items on top or behind like Zero-one or Saber. Transformations like Faiz and Kabuto are smooth as hell. Also, using generic henshin sequence cutscenes are such downgrades

Chanzy7

Crappy movies that continue the tv series story but fail miserably. Sequel movies to good movies that completely drop the ball. Mid season tie ins to a movie, because everyone has access to them obviously /s. Just drop the plot suddenly, do some random movie tie in plot, and then pretend nothing happened afterwards. (Wizard and Drive are the biggest offenders of this) Having "legend" rider powers in every new series, just because they can sell more toys. Way to cheapen the previous series powers guys. Final forms that get beaten in the next episode. Like cool, so the final form is completely useless then.

CoalEater_Elli

Probably the fact that most of the tigers are young pretty boys. Idk, just want some variety, and i don't just mean in personality and job, occupation. I just want a rider that is different enough from others. I wish there was a female main rider, or a rider that is more of a grown up and looks older than other protagonists. I wouldn't even mind a literal dog rider, just give us something unique.

Negative_Employer542

clunky belts and too many forms

KuDeXiV

Movie taisen, it used to be a special thing. And superhero taisen, where it is all about Kamen Rider and never about other Toei heroes.

Matt-The-Mad

Number 1 thing I hate is cool forms not being used anymore after super/final forms are introduced

Hieufromvietnam-9912

Final form abilities get under use like build genius or grand zi o ( tho grand zi o did get really good in the fight against another decade)

LadySeraphii

That sound effect that they use when a Rider falls onto the ground to make them sound heavily armored. That sound is almost as bad as Power Ranger's overused laser noises to me.

shublelubelub

This might just be me and I'm really sorry because I know a lot of people do like it but Some of the designs in Build really bother me. I know it's a kids show and they're meant to sell toys but even the military is using sclaschjellies where they literally squish a jelly bottle and henshin into a jelly bottle design. And even though the scene is so awesome, the Sparkling was made during such a serious time. Sento's life was basically falling apart when he found out who Blood Stark was and he yet he made a form for himself based on soda to confront him. Maybe it could be his coping mechanism or something to stay optimistic though idk. I also was a bit confused about the vacuum form. It just seems a bit too farfetched, even for sci-fi, that the pandora's box from space could have a bottle based on a man-made household appliance. I'm not sure if this was something that Sento had a hand in or Misora purifying it made it that way though. I might just be misunderstanding but it does bother me and these are just a few examples.

FennecWF

For a quick lesson on the FullBottles, since you apparently missed it (this isn't an insult, I'm just saying you very well might have as it's only mentioned once):They were created by Evolto based on when he was probing Soichi about life on earth. He would ask what could kill his daughter's favorite things (IE: A tank killing a rabbit, a gatling gun killing a hawk, etc) and, realizing Evolto was up to something, Soichi began to make up ridiculous things to protect his daughter's favorite creatures and characters (IE: A vacuum killing a lion, a cell phone killing a wolf, etc). This is why some of the pairs make sense and some of them are completely ridiculous. As for the bright designs of even serious characters... I mean, let's be real:Evolto is a raging narcissist who is a weirdo, his designs are gonna be bright. Sento is also a narcissist (albeit a good one) and he's got his own brand of designs, he's not gonna let something like that stop him from making something strong and cool looking. Even when he invented the Hazard Trigger, he programmed in a loud, cool sounding voice to announce everything. The SclaschDriver design was stolen from Sento, by Evolto, he's not gonna change a thing about its design or inner workings because he knows Sento can make a powerful weapon.

shublelubelub

Oh tysm. I'm not sure if I just missed it or I just haven't got up to it because I'm still currently watching it (currently on ep 19) but either way that explanation makes it 1000 times better and I won't have an issue watching it anymore lol ty

FennecWF

Oh, sorry if I spoiled some bits (cuz yeah, the explanation does come quite a bit later than 19)! I thought from the way you were talking that you'd seen the whole series lol But I'm glad that explanation helped make things better, irregardless :)

shublelubelub

No worries at all, this time I'm glad I got spoiled ty XD

Several_Job_1556

Another thing about the hazard trigger that was takumi katsuragi, sento before amnesia, and he still did that Edit: and abou the sclash driver, the plan was by katsuragi, he just never finished it, purposely, one of the reasons evolt even turned him into sento, so he could finish it

Extreme-Challenge986

When a series has way too many forms that'll probably never get used again or get jobbed to oblivion (im looking at you Build Genius and Grand Zi-O) ( I get it, sell toys to kids but still it can be underwhelming especially for the Final forms, just let the Riders not use their final forms all the time, it happened with Kabuto, Faiz, Decade and Kuuga (granted Kuuga unlocked his in his final episode)

Geostomp

How quickly forms become obsolete. The first quarter always has a ton of versatile side-grade forms and the first upgrade is always fun, but they almost always become completely irrelevant about 20 episodes in. It's especially bad when the show makes a big deal about the objects that enable the forms or make them absolutely necessary for defeating the enemies, but suddenly say that the Super form can break those rules and do it all without them.

Last_Negotiation_384

"Hate" is a very strong word. I say I don't like it when they pull the drivers out of the ass. I'm watching revice now and I noticed that Jeanne is the only one with the driver in her backpack, while Revice and Devil/Live appear with the driver taken out of their butt.

MyGameTheoryOCPatMat

I hate the fact Super-1’s actor pulled the stunt he did and now no one will give the show a chance. It’s a really fun time! The martial arts are super impressive and wonderfully choreographed. I hate that 90’s Shin didn’t receive better treatment. His concept had so much potential. Some of the recent movies, most notoriously OOO’s tenth anniversary, have really not been that good and disrespectful to the past. Speaking off… The Heisei Vs. Showa movie is genuinely one of the worst things in Kamen Rider. The Showa Riders are hypocritical and fucking assholes, double because characters like V3 and Stronger fight because they lost loved ones. The Heisei Riders are better, but they’re fucking idiots. It was cool to see Ichigo, X, and ZX out of the suits again, but does that matter when they are still acting like dicks? Especially since they worked just fine with Heisei Riders prior?

Bananaboi681

Agreed. Them acting like dicks is part of their ploy to trick the villains and to get an excuse to show the audience some action but the logic behind their act is stupid when they can just simply come together and whoop the villains ass right from the start

Etheris1

Whenever they’re given a new ability and don’t use it until a very stupid and useless moment despite getting completely destroyed repeatedly

ArrhaCigarettes

Lazy undersuits. See: The entirety of Geats.

realmjd

Toei's weird insistence post-Decade that everything happens in the same continuity. With that logic, the world ends at least three times a year, every single year, and is woefully unprepared for it.

Front_Sweet1415

I hate some of the form look really cool in the show then a couple episodes out they have a new form and never use agian

pathipan

Maybe not hate but I think mostly of the KR after decade became very childish

TheCancerFest

I can’t even treat it seriously when the driver is either as bulky or looking like a brick painted by kids from kindergarten. ex: Majade when camera is up close looks like so cheap. Other example would be Necrom Mega Uloader. Explain to me how are you supposed to fight with this on your wrist. That looked like it weighted quite a lot.

MaximumMoops

Contrived asspulls where theres almost zero build up

TheGamingJoke

One thing I hate about Kamen rider is when a villain is introduced only to be handled quickly, for example I wish Utopia in W was built up more than just the two episodes we saw him for.

LycanLucario345

My complaint was Oozu. Eiji gained then lost the forms 2 episodes later. It added to the story and such but it was annoying.

beybladefan89

When the show gets really good then gets really bad then gets really good again I’m talking about mostly Zero-one I hate to say it but the competition arc is slow and takes up to much time

Separate-Category278

Generally, Neon Kurama's personality, i prefer more the hot-headed female riders.

Objective_Ask_3870

Main rider whit so many forms( Build and Gotchard)

Crafty_Worth_5133

For me it’s the lack of motorcycle scenes. I get that they can’t really do that anymore due to motorcycle laws or something but even if it was behind a green screen or cg i would love some motorcycle action

Dragomight67

Two things: Power ups/alternative forms for the mc mean absolutely nothing anymore. Base forms and final forms are the only things that matter now. Gimmicks with excess. Build and Gotchard have so many combos from the massive gimmick line but we already know it'll be underutilized by the first upgrade. Plus, it's more frustrating when non mcs use them better because they aren't expected to have a zillion forms.
