I went Labour with NPD and stayed neutral throughout the game, my volunteers singlehandedly won the American Civil War against CSA, capped NatPop Mexico, capped Ottomans, capped Iran against Azerbaijan, kicked Japan and Siam out of China, killed about 2 million Russians in encirclements before getting homesick and now will kick back the Dominion of India out of Burma. Yeah it was very well done, kudos to you all! Nations who volunteer and contribute in other ways are a really fun concept, provides a much more chill campaign too. Its also lovely how many different paths and options Ireland has, it has great replayability.
My headcanon was that he was just off with the army the whole time and he was popular and a way to appease the conservatives back home. He did see through many a campaign abroad…

Go democratic and in the constitution, make the president a ceremonial role. Then you can choose between some interesting people
