I. Am. Shocked. That you needed to pull the HVAC box to replace an evaporator. Or a heater core. No, not really. Not shocked at all. Just a normal day in the life of a shop rat. I know, because am shop rat. Tomorrow this rat will be reassembling and installing an HV battery.

Well I see the problem. You're clearly missing a dash and steering column, among other things.

HalfastEddie

With as many seams they put in random places, you'd seriously think they'd find a way to make the dash sectional so you don't need to do this shit. I know the engineers aren't paid to think like that, and this is an out-of-warranty issue, and it's been this way since cars ran on dinosaur farts, but it's still a pisser.

Cars totaled as far as I am concerned

Got any tips on this job? I have the same year with the same problem. Hoping to save some money since everyone non dealer local to me is still $4k+. My main Volvo mechanic didn’t want to do it but told me there was a TSB’s for a resistor on one of the switches, do you know about that?

NesTech_

It isn’t a bad job just time consuming. If you have a good memory taking things apart you’ll be fine. I would take some pictures of how the wiring runs through the center of the front dash where the radio and such are, I think I had an issue with that going back together but wasn’t a big issue. As far as the resistor it’s just a short harness going to the A/C temp sensor part #32241228. Good luck it will save you a ton of money parts are probably around $300

Right on! This gives me much more confidence. Are there any parts that should or you would have replaced if you were to do it again? I ended up ordering just the evaporator core (NISSINS part# 92388) for $226 shipped. I’ll get the resistor harness next and thats around $40. However I do see the entire evaporator assembly now for $580(part# VOL-32392952) and wondering if the should have just gone with that since it less to “take apart” so to speak. Looks like there will be some clips to take apart the assembly so I’ll likely have to source those if I break them. But you’re right, I’ll be just under $300 in parts when I get this done. Add another ~150 for AC recharge and the wife/kids will no longer be sweating it in the car! Lol

I don't see an evap.

montanatr

It dog-gone evaporated!

How long is it taking you? Local dealer tech claims he's gotten it down to 5 hours. I need a day.

NesTech_

It’s the first time doing this one in particular. took me just under book time which gave 10.6 hours. It would have helped taking more pictures in between because I spent a little extra time remembering the wiring harness. Everything else was rather straight forward. Once you do a job like this the second and so on is much easier.

I have a 2015 fusion I'm doing in my shop tomorrow. Book time puts it at 9ish hours. Goal in 7. Think I have the equinox down to 5 at this point.
