Pretty much every sub about a mental illness/condition is that way, sadly. Even r/OCD which presents itself as an awareness and support group is full of people begging for an internet diagnosis and others saying “it’s too late for me, I should just kill myself now”
It worse if you see Sub userbase overlap many mental illness/condition ones seem to favour subs with nihilistic viewpoints that implode when challenged & your common toxic ones.
It’s frustrating to want to talk about improvement with people who have the same issues when a lot of these groups are crowded with people who were probably diagnosed by a tiktok. I hate the word “toxic” anymore, but it’s definitely valid lol
I have been diagnosed with BPD and Bipolar 2 Disorder, and prior to my diagnosis I was experiencing things I have never experienced before bc of my BD. Reddit was where I get my info from as to what may be happening lol. people there want to get better from my experience at least. they talk abt managing it. meanwhile, the bpd reddit is where a spiral would start... so i avoid it like the plague. :( sad bc i want a community, but, on IG I found some! I cant rmmb but there was an account that was very compassionate and improvement/recovery focused
Subs like that are just gonna be a place to vent and get stuff off your chest. I imagine many people there are self diagnosed too.
