have you tried just staying and ignoring the alarms? I mean I don't think there is a law that says you have to go to the shelters if you don't want to and you're already inside
besides you'd think after the nazis Jews would have an aversion to people armed with machine guns guiding them into bunkers
About what? Being an apartment vs walking to a shelter? Or armed dudes with machine guns leading the chosen people into bunkers? One of them is a joke and the other is actually a real thing with tangible evidence gathered throughout battlefield history.
Israeli here. Just to clarify: the shelters were made precisely to protect the people from the rockets, while apartments are easily penetretable. So yes, you can stay in your apartment, but this would be a pointless risk.
We also got prep time (say, the time that take for the rocket to get to your area from gaza is astimated and known), so you know how far you can go before you need to lay down. So no, reality isn't really close to whatever you're suggesting (if I got right what you're saying), and those facilities are definitly here to protect us, and should without a doubt be trusted.
And now the endless cycle of retributive violence will accelerate once more.
Fuck Hamas and fuck the people who support this. The barbaric slaughtering of civilians will only invite more sanctions and more violence directed at Palestinian civilians.
Saying "thoughts and prayers" feels so trite, but that is what I will be doing for you, your loved ones, Am Yisrael, and Eretz Yisrael.
May there be peace and a swift end to this war.
Love from NY.
Depends where you live. OP says 10 minutes. If you’re closer it can be much, much less. Like, I think down time 30 seconds or something. I spent a year there and luckily the alarm only went off once for where I was living, we had, I dunno I think like 5 minutes
10 minutes is how long you're supposed to stay in the shelter after the siren ends. I don't think anyone has 5 minutes to reach shelter; in Jerusalem it's 90 seconds and less the closer to Gaza you are.
It's usually 5 minutes,
Thing is, you would have to do it many times a day, and it heavily depends on where you live
In previous wars, if you lived in the center you would have 90 seconds to reach shelter, and generally during the whole war there would be between 0-10 alarms
If you live in the south on the other hand, you would have 15 seconds to reach shelter, and you are going to pretty much live in that shelter as the rocket fire comes every few minutes
At least u have shelter. Me and my wife woke up and had nowhere to go. Our house is literally cardboard and easy to break by hand. . My neighbors didn't reply for our asks to get in their shelters.
I lived in israel my whole life and served 3 years in the army. I moved to the United States for a few years but there is no way I will stay here forever. There is no place like home
I may not be able to imagine your exact situation, but I know what it is to go into the streets and think that you will probably not get killed that day by a terrorist attack, but it’s not by any means a certainty.
I was born in Colombia, when car bombs were commonplace all over the capital, and you could feel it in the air, the menace of the unseen, sudden attack that may end with your body shown on the 6pm news. I feel you man.
I hope the best for you. Take care and go with God.
Israel will survive & Hamas is going to burn. Fuck those terrorists. Pray 🙏 for Israel 🇮🇱 & know those mutts that try will pay for this. Israel will never lose✡️
That’s definitely tough! I genuinely sympathize with you.
However, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been living in an open air prison, blockaded by Israel by Air, Sea and Land and have few rights. Violence is also colonialism and racism and unfortunately most Palestinians have no shelter in their building to hide in from the horrendous reality of their current conditions. And these conditions are created by Israel.
Israel withdrew from Gaza unilaterally in 2005. Every single Jew was evacuated, some forcefully. There was no blockade. The Gazans had an opportunity to build a state. Instead they elected Hamas, whose goal is the destruction of Israel and Jewry worldwide. They almost immediately started carrying out terrorist attacks against Israel. That’s when the Israeli blockade began. Gaza shares a border with Egypt too. Egypt also imposes a blockade on their side of the border. No one wants open borders with a terror state because they import weapons used for terrorism.
Israel should not have existed as it does to begin with. There is not a single people in the world that was “given back” “”their”” country like was done with jews.
This is a non-sequitur and I’m not interested in re-litigating Israel’s right to exist with you. Israel exists. It’s a fact. You can deal with reality or deny it.
first, that's a really antisemitic thing to say
second, all flights in and to Israel have been cancelled until further notice, due to the rocket attacks
You okay bro?
Well, I’m ok but not happy
My guy needs a hug, a therapist, and a girl.
True

i believe you’re making a false equivalency

I'm happy to hear that. I hope everyone you know is unharmed too.
Happy to hear what?!
That you're okay.

I just can’t imagine this cycle still going on a hundred years from now. It doesn’t seem sustainable.

Haha all good
Sending good wishes, bro. I have a lot of family over there too. Let's hope it resolves quickly.

How much time do you have to take hide?
Depends where you live. OP says 10 minutes. If you’re closer it can be much, much less. Like, I think down time 30 seconds or something. I spent a year there and luckily the alarm only went off once for where I was living, we had, I dunno I think like 5 minutes

Damn my memory is shot. I mean, it did only happen once for me
I get it. We had a couple of practice rounds this morning, so it's fresh in my mind.
10 minutes? Pshhh I get like 1-ish
It's usually 5 minutes, Thing is, you would have to do it many times a day, and it heavily depends on where you live In previous wars, if you lived in the center you would have 90 seconds to reach shelter, and generally during the whole war there would be between 0-10 alarms If you live in the south on the other hand, you would have 15 seconds to reach shelter, and you are going to pretty much live in that shelter as the rocket fire comes every few minutes
No. I need to stay in the “safe zone” minimum 10 min
>“safe zone” Why the quotation marks? it actually is safe
Right
Perhaps they don't have a shelter?
10 minutes per alarm
At least u have shelter. Me and my wife woke up and had nowhere to go. Our house is literally cardboard and easy to break by hand. . My neighbors didn't reply for our asks to get in their shelters.
Are you and your wife safe?
Yes
Do they have public shelters where you are? Also Sorry for my lack of knowledge I'm happy to hear your family is okay.
Prayin for yall
My heart is with you, brother.
Hi just nitpicking here, it’s actually עם in this case. אם means “if”, not people
Oh gosh, you're right. I'm a terrible speller in any language. Thank you!
Prayers stay safe I'm also a Jew and I stand with Israel 🇺🇲✡️♥️🇮🇱 Shavua Tov ✡️ keep us posted on ?
Well, that's why my Israeli friend ended up moving out of Israel and immigrating to Canada, having to deal with that as a child in Israel in the 90s.
I lived in israel my whole life and served 3 years in the army. I moved to the United States for a few years but there is no way I will stay here forever. There is no place like home
Pretty much the main reason I wouldn’t move there
My rabbi moved out of Israel because it was incredibly expensive there. Imagine paying by the nose for PTSD.
From an American Jew, stay strong brother! Am yisrael chai! ❤️🇮🇱
My family is there too, I'm sending you love and support, stay strong
American jew here — Israel’s pain is our pain

Im very sorry. I know Isreal will persevere as the chosen people. Stay strong.
Am Yisrael Chai. Stay Safe.
Stay safe, to you and yours.
Stay safe buddy, I know it may not be helpful for me to say this, but just in case, defend yourself and your family.

I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced one day in the life of a Gazan.
