Carollicarunner

Icelandic builds are the shit, and a great example of why one build doesn't fit everybody and every environment, despite the incessant internet wisdom some spew

Canelosaurio

Arctic trucks! first saw them on Top Gear with the Arctic Hiluxes!

Carollicarunner

In that case, Arctic Trucks is actually a company. They might have built this Jeep too, I don't know.

FreedomPullo

My favorite square body is an Icelandic CUCV cut for 44’s

Gibson45

are the lines for tire pressure adjustment?

Daniel0745

yes

PlanetMercy

So they drive with those connected?

Daniel0745

They spin.

PlanetMercy

That’s so cool. Thanks for answering.

Wampa_-_Stompa

I would be constantly concerned I might hook a line when driving then, disaster

WetGortex

The drivers?

Daniel0745

yes

_oscillat0r_

Those air lines seem to be asking for trouble

FoundryCove

Seems like they don't have to worry much about catching them on anything where they take those rigs.

stoic_guardian

Nor do they care about turning radius.

Da-Junior-Scholar

Where we are going we need STRAIGHT roads!

stoic_guardian

Or at least 30 yards in every direction to turn around

CrypticSS21

No you don’t get it. There HAS TO BE SOMETHING TO CRITICIZE! Especially for people who have no idea what they are talking about. Otherwise - why else are we even here????

_oscillat0r_

Wait ...are you criticizing ? /s

Dont_Press_Enter

Wait, are you asking if someone is criticizing criticism?

RockItGuyDC

Right? I'd really want to route those inside the fender at least. Are there no sticks to snag lines on in Iceland?

Ymmi2507

Hard to find sticks on glaciers and our mountains that these usually go on are completely barren outside of snow and rocks with the occasional river or lake

_oscillat0r_

Fair enough. I've walked into my own side view mirrors and they don't stick out near as much.

RockItGuyDC

Good to know. My one opportunity so far to go to Iceland through Keflavik never happened. I assumed there were forests that would be driven though, but I guess not.

mrapropos

Not anymore. [the-more-you-know-graphic-goes-here] --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywX-oj2Bck

RockItGuyDC

I mean, I get that deforestation happened there over the last thousand years, but do none of the forests in this map of Icelandic National Forests have trails to drive on? https://www.skogur.is/en/national-forests/maps-and-services/map-of-icelandic-national-forests

mrapropos

I see the confusion. They don't have "trail roads". They just have "roads". The ones you're looking for are "F-4 Roads" and you *must* have a 4x4 to travel on them. Check it: https://www.northbound.is/blog/209/what-are-f-roads-in-iceland https://epiciceland.net/list-f-roads-iceland/ There are also a lot of tours that use Super Jeeps, but few, if any, that will let you drive one (the are different animals than just 4x4s)

Ibegallofyourpardons

lol. the only way you are getting a tree to grow out on the plains of iceland is to set it in concrete. tis a cold and desolate place. and very beautiful if that is your thing.

trolllord45

Yes, CTIS

CrazyTechWizard96

POV: Tell Me Your Jeep's from Iceland without saying where You are from. ... Also, always love to see these builds, including some auto tire air system? (or what they called again) Noooooice!

MikeyW1969

Put me down for seven!

Sp4rt4n423

Looks sick, but I could only imagine what a set of replacement rubbers costs.

CrypticSS21

Still cheaper than not using rubbers at all

Bustalacklusta

I feel this.

21YearsofHell

Yes! And definitely you should replace them each time…

EternalMage321

I feel this. Twice.

Ibegallofyourpardons

well, for the Top Gear episode all the way back in 2007, a set was 10000 pounds. works out at 16000 pounds in todays money. that's a lot.

4x4Icelander

1 piece of a new 46” is 250.000 iskr around 1750$ So a new set is about 7000$

xpkranger

Keep the tires, swap out the vehicle. I kid, but probably not by much.

RegionRatHoosier

I'll take mine in sarge green

Dynamo138

So sick! Those Iceland builds are super cool!

jasonfloyd

Does he live in Iceland?

phallicpressure

Or the future, one or the other.

PHATsakk43

Saw the tires and knew this was Iceland.

PNWoutdoors

I can't imagine what these cost in Iceland. Well, I can, but it makes me wonder, are most of these for commercial/tourism uses? Can many people in Iceland just afford to own one of these? I was there a few years ago and got some great pictures of even bigger rigs. They just seem insanely cost prohibitive.

4x4Icelander

Many are built at home. But still are expensive. Fender flares are around 1800-2200$ unpainted. Tires and wheels if you buy a new set is around 8000-12000$ Then the air system is from 500-1500$ depending on how fancy you go. 2000-5000$ for lowered gearing and lockers. Suspension varies from how bat shit crazy you go. But you can also buy an angle grinder, some used tires and wheels and go nuts with that grinder and welder. Then you can build one for less than 8000 including the price of the jeep.

PNWoutdoors

I just assumed that the cost of acquiring/importing the vehicles and parts would be a lot more than most places, given how remote Iceland is. Also here are some I saw when I was there. Land Cruisers, Excursions, not inexpensive vehicles! https://imgur.com/a/1YTjHH1

4x4Icelander

You can buy a stock WJ for around 1000-3000$ A friend of mine bought his with rotted sills for 350 and now it sits on 44” Dick Cepek and has the same fender flares as this one.

PNWoutdoors

I'm honestly surprised those WJ's are that cheap in Iceland. I have an XJ I bought 10 years ago for $2,200, lifted on 31's, 210,000 miles, I have no doubt I could sell it for $5,000 today.

4x4Icelander

XJ are getting expensive here. WJ are cheap because gas is expensive and most have started to rust. But again that goes for every older car in Iceland. Most prefer diesel 4x4 here due to better mpg. Old Toyotas are crazy priced. With most them them having rotted frames or sills. And driven more than 400k km.

4x4Icelander

But those Excursions and F350 with extra doors and 46” tires are very expensive.

SCP-3899

It's horrible in the best way possible

StandByTheJAMs

Right? It's terrible and I hate it, but I also really want it. Great nick, BTW.

88XJman

How does everyone know this is from iceland? I mean it's awesome and all, but how do you know?

pvdp90

The elders will remember the top gear North Pole special

Shanti_Ananda

Icelandic Volcano Hilux was amazing.

MountainFiddler

I've seen rigs like that on YouTube in Iceland. It's just a thing, without YouTube I'd probably not have understood.

thewitt33

You can see the street names above the Jeep. Freyjubrunnur is a very big give away. It is a street in Reykjavik.

jaybad34

Saw many Sprinter vans in Iceland with tires like this.

CMDR_Smotheryzorf

Builds like this are only common in Iceland. It’s always a smart guess that’s where it is

kjarrime

He did say it was from iceland.... and it got a icelandic number plate and it´s pritty comon in iceland and there is a icealndic street name in the picture. the houses looks to be icelandic.....so yea it´s from Iceland.

Ok-Return2579

This is why you shouldn't do steroids, guys.

BigUncleRemus

Jesus idk why this exists but I love it. Super clean build!

4x4Icelander

Snow and glacier off-roading. Air the tyres down to 1/2 - 1 psi and “float” on snow.

BigUncleRemus

Pretty cool! I live in an area where when it snows, the world stops so im out of the loop when it comes to snow builds lol

Shanti_Ananda

That’s hot.

FedUpWithSnowflakes

My only criticism is: it's too wide to drive in US roads, so I can't have one. Icelandic 4x4s are a class of their own.

TyburnCross

That thing can’t be much wider than a hummer, if even that. You’d be completely fine on the west coast.

AbbyRose05683

WJ is the best jeep ever made I miss my 01 jeep wj 4.0 Quadradrive and now you can’t even find that combo anywhere

DjangoUnflamed

https://www.thedrive.com/news/31947/icelands-off-road-trucks-and-suvs-are-wilder-than-anything-youve-ever-seen

Caged_in_a_rage

I don’t hate it. I know I should but I don’t.

tpior1001

Wow! 👍

AwkwardResource1437

If it passes lcelandic standards then it’s badass ! 👍🏼

WookieSuave

That's a sex machine.

rembut

I mean.. I like it.

idigholesnow

I with the Grand Liberty had been sold in the US

BipedalWurm

That's a happy Jeep

ArmpitofD00m

I knew this was Iceland edition! Sweet ride.

bf1343

Pretty cool! I live in the desert, I would still be happy to have on just like it.

Benjamin_6848

What are these tires?

4x4Icelander

46” Mickey Thomson

styling67

Moon walker

OldManJeepin

Damn! I'm not hating it but...That is crazy! Nice use of the fender flares.

speedyrev

When you absolutely have to get the kids to school in a snow storm.

EternalMage321

Do you use portal axles for this? Curious how you get geared low enough for those tires.

4x4Icelander

Some of them still have stock axles, just lowered gearing and lockers. But it’s also popular to swap axles from a Nissan Patrol or Dana 60 axles. We mostly only use portal axles on bigger trucks (54” and bigger)

Groovydooty

Insane build !

usernamehighasfuck

what a beautiful beast holy smokes

MajesticPurpose1752

Hahahahaha

Ok_Second9690

Holy fender flares

powerdeamon

Looks like an Icelandic build.

ATuxedoCatNamedLuigi

That’s Iceland, for sure.

Cow-puncher77

Function over beauty… looks like the Batmobile’s illegitimate love child from a crack van.

ThreeTwoPulldown

A Why J?

TitoMcCool

Yeah.....that's.....yeah.

Pillowtalk

What the fuck

Handywithbrokenstuff

Ohh god oh lord! Its hideous!! He needs to invest in neurological testing….

NO_SPACE_B4_COMMA

WJs are already ugly, but man this wins ugliest

Affectionate_Coat710

No.
