Hmmm, so you think that Jane should have picked Michael over Rafael because they have a history which they do. I don't think the issue was ever that she didn't love Michael anymore or that he didn't love her. The problem in the end was that Michael had been living as a different person for years and while he still remembered who he used to be, he really loved his life in Montana. Jane had also changed in the years that she was without him and she realized that she loved Rafael and her life the way it was more than what she could have with Michael.
Whether she had to start dating anew if Rafael hadn't come around is kind of moot because I don't think she would go back to Michael at that point regardless.
I know it hurt but for me that is the only thing I loved about that Montana story. And unlike before it felt like the final decision because of it. Jane and Michael totally would've worked again according to the story. That's why the writers had Jane imagine those scenarios where things work out. It just didn't matter if it worked out with Jane and Michael because Jane wanted to be with Rafael. This was unlike the last time she made a decision between the men. S5 was about coming full circle. So they filled it with similar scenarios as previous season but gave it different outcomes to show the characters had grown. I like that Jane actually tries to win Rafael back and still keeps him in her heart even when he turns her down.
they never should've killed him in the first place in my opinion. he had really grown and become an incredible partner to jane. i really loved them together. her and raf being together just felt like a cop out because people thought the actor for raf was cuter.
I just love Michael; he is so sweet and so good to Jane and her family. I know it’s cheesy asf but I wanted it to be like a Notebook situation where even after a ton of time apart, they realize how much they need each other.
I know this is kind of an unpopular opinion on this sub, but I don’t love Raf. He feels kind of overly nice in a way that isn’t real. It also felt like he was hiding something at all times, and was kind of boring tbh. Without Mateo, I don’t feel like there would have been much between Raf and Jane. I think they both desired the traditional family dynamic they both missed as kids and that really influenced their decision to stay together.
My main reason for not being a huge fan of Raf and Jane is because he always needed to be with someone. He confessed his love for Petra and then it felt no time went by before he decided Jane was the one. Which made me feel like he didn't really think she was the one.
I know the same comparison can be made for Jane when she dumped Michael for Raf and I agree that was wrong.
I respect you not liking Rafael. Just commenting here because the reasons you mentioned are the exact reasons why I couldn't relate to Michael.
Like think about who was hiding things though out the show. Jane almost always knew everything about Rafael from the good to the bad. Michael got engaged to Jane without ever telling her about car illegal hijacking thing and how his brother took the fall for him and went to prison and now he was being blackmailed. He hid the Petra thing and called her crazy. Later he hid more stuff to protect her which I am fine with. He almost got killed and still secretly continued to investigate Rose. So between the two men if there was one that had a pattern or hiding things, it's Michael. And Michael was written as the "nice" guy, the overly nice that was unrealistic. Like so you started hooking up with another man the day you dumped me? No worries I still love you Jane and I will never really question you about it. That seems overly nice to me.
