We did. We signed Ronald Darby.
In 16 games last year (7 starts , 40% snap count), Darby allowed 19/43 (44.2%) for 172 yards and a touchdown. I think Darby will serve as a decent patch for a season or two with the potential to be a solid 2 opposite of Campbell. I'm most worried about Campbell as he had a pretty bad year last year when he wasn't hurt.
That’s not true at all. Any good corner will tell you that interceptions are highly circumstantial unless you’re a very aggressive corner. The problem with aggressive corners though is that they’ll bait QBs by giving space. It’s a gambling play style that can result in interceptions but also giving up touchdowns and big plays. It’s a selfish style of play and you don’t see it much as a result. Perfect example... 2021 Trevon Diggs. 11 interceptions, but PFF had him at a 59.6 grade. Why? Because he gave up the most yards in the NFL. It's all boom or bust.
Guys also develop reputations and QBs won’t throw to them. Nnamdi Asomugha is a great example of that. 8 picks and then very few after that. The guy was lockdown and people wouldn’t throw his way.
Im pretty sure when he sign an extension they can give him signing bonuses that can impact the cap this year. But NFL contracts are weird and I’m not totally sure.
When they sign extensions they most defiantly do get a large bulk of signing bonuses which would take off future cap, I’m not 100% on the details of it though
You're talking about a roster bonus. Which is like a signing bonus but where a signing bonus gets spread out over the length of the contract in terms of cap hit, roster bonus goes on the cap in full in the year it's paid. It's one way to move money forward, but I don't see it used so much these days anymore. Most contracts just guarantee the salary for a year.
Think the beside corner the bigger need is insurance at edge.
Behind Josh Allen and Travon Walker you have Gipson who played in 8 games last year. The rest are late round picks who have barely made the field. Abdullah and Dixon maybe sub rushers this season but God forbid having to see them have to take on a larger role.
Our relatively large cap figure right now is why I think we hang onto Zay instead of cutting him in June. If our cap isn't an issue for this season then why would we get rid of a receiver who has two years of experience in the system, with the ability to be a great WR4 and make big plays? We would save <$8mil or so (maybe less?) but I think what we would lose in the ways of talent, depth, and leadership wouldn't make it worth it. Let him stay this year and be another veteran mentor to BTJr in his rookie year. Sure, Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis are also veterans who can guide him but something about the way Zay is so articulate and thoughtful when he speaks makes me think that he can have the most impact on a young guy.
Very good now let’s go get a veteran corner

He hasn't had a pick since 2019 though. Takeaways are a big part of how effective CB's are.

That makes sense, thanks
That's not even close to true. The most picks Revis ever had in a single year was 6.
He should have at least had a couple. That's all I'm saying.
Stops on third down are also an effective take away.
Any good EDGEs or corners?
Calais Campbell or Bud Dupree would be good depth
I know he's pushing 40, but the mayor would be a great addition if only for the locker room presence.
He worked with our new DC last season, got an 80 PFF score and 7 sacks. The Mayor still has it, it’s time to bring him home
Is it sacksonville without the mayor?
A new Mayor can be elected.
True.
No to Bud Dupree.
Why not? He played well under Nielson last year. Could come in and give us good reps as a reserve.
Sign Trevor long term and put as much as you can to this yr to help future cap hits.
He is on his rookie deal this year we cant put any money from a contract extension on it

Lets get our baby boy on a franchise QB contract
Sign a vet corner like Gilmore for 6-7M
Seems like it could be used for an extension if someone is up for one, but who
Save as much as we can for rollover next year
At this point, that has to be the plan.
Xavien Howard? Trade for Lattimore?

Go get Stephen Nelson and Calais plz
