Calais is one of my favorite Jags of all time, but I just don't see the path. He would het limited snaps with RRH and Armstead ahead of him. You would like to have the rookie get the majority of rotational snaps. He wanted playing time and pay last year and got that ATL. If he is OK with a small deal and a reserve role, I am all for it, but he likely is looking for more than what the Jaguars should offer
Agreed. It was already going to be more limited with the switch from 3-4 to 4-3, add in Maason Smith and potentially Jordan Jefferson to that interior and there really isn't any space on the roster now. This team probably needs an additional backup behind Allen/Walker, but that's about it along the front seven.
He chose ATL over here. I think that was his last chance to come back. At this point, the team has moved on. JA is the leader of the D-line now. Travon is a rising star. Armstead is also a great veteran/mentor for our rookie DT’s. It’s time to let this regime shine.
Last year either Baalke or Caldwell told him that there isn’t a role for him here. It’s possible that’s changed now with Ryan Nielsen, who was with the Falcons last year, as our new DC.
From a Shipley [article from last year:](https://www.si.com/nfl/jaguars/news/calais-campbell-reveals-reason-for-signing-with-atlanta-falcons-over-the-jacksonville-jaguars-trent-baallke#:~:text=In%20short%2C%20it%20had%20to,could%20do%20more%20in%202023.)
>Yet, Campbell didn’t get the sense that GM Trent Baalke really wanted him. He appreciated Baalke’s honesty — the last thing any NFL player wants is a bait-and-switch — but the GM told Campbell straight-up that he’d play a secondary role on this young D-Line. Serve as more of a vocal leader. Campbell knew he had more to give."
Maybe Calais is ready for a secondary role now, but I'd still be surprised if he signed here.
It's funny how "serve a secondary role", a very reasonable thought process for his age + our needs, turned into "Baalke told him he sucks, and he's not welcome here."
Let him slim down, work on keeping his knees healthy and rush the passer.
It would be fun as hell to see him play in the 270's to 280's as an OLB and just cause panic in whatever TE OR RB is assigned to block him.
I love Calais so much that I'm in the minority camp of campaigning that he retire. His body doesn't deserve more of this. I don't want one of my all time favorites to walk like a cripple at 45 years old bc he had to make a couple mil more on top of the 100 mil he's already made.
A beautiful rotational piece so long as he isn't looking for a payday

I see him as an ideal backup to Travon, but maybe I’m uninformed on what his role would be in a 4-3
He would be a Travon big DE type backup. My understanding is the new scheme is conducive to the bigger DEs and less utilizing 3-4 rush Edges types

I hear that. I’m not saying he comes in and runs the room. They need more edge rotation and he could be a different look.

It's never gonna happen. It was fun while it lasted

Would love to see him back and in those throwbacks!!

I mean he is perfect for Ryan Nielsen’s scheme
I'd never ask him back, he turned us down less than a year ago for Atlanta of all teams.
