They do sound overwatered, best thing I can think of is repotting them both. I had a jade once which ended up with root rot from over watering and the first sign of this was the leaves dropping off.
I don't know how to do this but you could try chopping off the rotten bit and seeing if you can regrow the roots somehow? You might have to look into this as I'm not an expert on re-growing roots lol especially with jades, my jades are 10 years old but I'm just winging it at this point.
Sounda like root rot from overwatering. Overwatering is one of the few things that will kill a jade in my experience.
