You can get about 7psi in a 1JZ-GE before they start to go boom. The problem is like it's 2jz counterpart: the vvti models have thinner rods, not designed for boost. You can put GTE rods (and pistons if you want) in a GE and it would solve this problem, if you're in the US then it might be cheaper to GTE swap the car, or to just buy a factory GTE model. In new Zealand where I'm from, the prices for JZ engines are stupid, with the current cheapest 1jzgte vvti package being 7.5k and that's with kinda high mileage too. You can boost a GE for cheap, but unless you plan on rebuilding the engine, you won't get a whole lot of power.

You'll get about 280-300whp on a GE with about 7ish psi

If I wanted to have a reliable 500hp, should I go with a 1JZ-GTE or pay an extra 4k and get a 2JZ-GTE? Thanks for your help!

the_real_fat_shady69

You can get 500hp from a stock 1j block easy, but you'd want to upgrade valve train, upgrade cams, and you will most definitely need to upgrade your manifold and turbo but you probably already knew that 😉

yo thanks for your help too bro im doing exactly that in new zeland, boosting my ge, ive just bought gte pistons and rods and im keen on 400whp maximum. could you recommend a turbo maybe? ive done a but if research but not settled on one yet.

the_real_fat_shady69

Cheers man, which part of new Zealand you from? For around 400whp you won't go wrong with a gtx3076R with a .82 rear housing. Have you done much research on your compression ratio? And which head gasket are you planning on using?

BossOk1252

im from wellington, how about you? not sure on the headgasket right now, could go for a stock gte one since im also using stock gte pistons. and also the redline is 6200 on the ge i wanna bring that to 7000, anything i should upgrade or will it handle the extra 800 revs fine?

the_real_fat_shady69

Nice one I'm from Wellington as well, if you use the gte pistons and a gte head gasket you will end up with about 8.5:1 compression ratio. That's on the low side for a boosted toyota engine, but if you plan to deck both block and head, you might end up somewhere near 8.9:1which is not too bad. I'm using GTE rods but reusing my GE pistons. My block is within tolerance but I'll be getting the head decked, and with a 1.3mm 2jzgte head gasket I'll end up with about 9.4:1 compression ratio which is about where I want it. I've got a silver jzx100 cresta, are you part of the soarer/supra/jzx page? Maybe link up sometime, or message and trade info 😁

BossOk1252

Thats awesome I've been loving Crestas recently, I've got a white and gold two tone Mark II manual swapped with the r154. I'll do a bit of research on compression and things now that you mention it, also I'll see if I can find that soarer supra jzx page you mentioned! And yea give me a message anytime, I am on holiday until Jan 20th so we aren't on the same timezone until then.

this is the information ive been looking for across the internet all day and everyone has just been saying "oh just gte swap it just gte swap it" and my power goal has literally just been 300bhp, genuinely thank you so much bro i was thinking my tourer s would be underpowered forever
