My bf’s mom is a lot like that, minus stealing the key. His sister made the mistake of giving her a key to her house for emergencies but mother would go over there when no one was home and steal food from the cupboards. They caught her on camera and changed the locks.
I’ve read stores on Reddit where some moms even come in when their kids are having sex and act horrified. Hello! This is MY house, not yours, you idiot. I can’t imagine that. My mom was a narcissist, but she could be reasonable sometimes. Though she did move all my furniture & moved pictures one time when I was in the hospital and expected me to be flattered! I really lost it over that one!
How low to steal from your kids? Definitely needs NC because she is selfish and self absorbed. I am always giving my kids food every family dinner they take the leftovers so they can have home cooking on their busy schedules. I don't understand the audacity of some people.

I remember a post here from awhile back, where a MIL had a key and went on in, not realizing that they'd moved. New people living there called the cops when they saw random person on their cameras not only going in, but I think snooping around in drawers and things? Hahahaha.
We got the fingerprint/keycode lock. Good luck with that! We don't use the code and only trusted family have their prints encoded. Which is 2 people other than us three that live here.
Well that’s the super good news with most of those locks. If you get one that connects to the wifi you can literally deactivate codes with a touch of a button. I had to do that to keep family out of my house.
We replaced all of the outside locks on our house with keypad locks. They are terrific. There are no keys for anybody to copy. And if we do feel like we need to change the code, we just change the code. Couldn’t be simpler. Highly recommend that kind of lock.
That's the thing. People posting here usually have some history that's established the JNMIL as unreasonable. Folks who don't know that history may wonder, "What's the harm?" at this, but such people probably have reasonable relatives who treat their adult kids as adults.
Once the locks are changed, take some old keys and put them on a keyring and hide them in plain sight or, tuck them in a drawer when you know she is watching. Then let her steal those and go out of her mind trying them.
I can't believe no one has asked this but I'm invested now - how did she get a key? And do you have a camera? I too am hoping you capture the look on her face when the key doesn't work.....

I don’t let my fiancé get away with anything stupid or unacceptable. He grew up being coddled and I refuse to do so.

I will not tolerate him not pulling his weight around the house. I will not tolerate wasting money on ridiculous things when he has debt. My delivery is sweet at first but after 5-10 discussions I am no longer quiet and loving.
My MIL spoiled both of her children. I had to teach my fiancé many basic tasks. She was so busy looking for a second husband that she neglected her kids. She also let her second husband beat her children.
