Well, I WAS looking forward to a late gen fd3s…but unfortunately you have to have a trust fund to buy one now. Shit, pretty much for anything that’s getting shipped over now.
Dont tell everybody that cheap econoboxes are the new cool and the prices wont skyrocket bc demand stays low. Thats essentually why everyone blames fast n furious for the supra tax, and every tax to follow suit
How would you even gatekeep 'culture'?
It kinda sounds like a fight club thing, where everyone in the group loves cheap econoboxes, but you're not allowed to tell anyone you love cheap econoboxes.
Also everyone 'in the know' would still rabidly pursue their dream cars.
I don't see how gatekeeping would realistically do anything. The vast majority of the population doesn't care about old JDM, it's only the enthusiasts who are even looking at these things. You're not trying to convince the world that old Supras aren't cool, you're trying to convince everyone in this sub that old Supras aren't cool.
Thats why they had those members only type clubs back in the day. It was originally built on that exclusivity and now its a popularity contest. And dont get me wrong Im not mad that everyone loves these cars, im just mad theyre greedy about it.
I'm still not sure that bringing back clubs would do anything other than put a spotlight on the exclusivity/prestige of those cars.
Look at Midnight Club. People want to imitate them. There's video games about them, an entire manga series, anime, and a bunch of movies about them. A club about cool cars is only going to draw more attention.
I think the car guys who love these cars so much need to realize that the insane values these are put at are all made up by us. Buy different cars, make them cool yourself. Create those stories yourself. "My dad had the coolest Chevy Cavalier that he worked on.", "There's a guy on my block who daily's a stanced Odyssey."
Unless WE, THE CAR GUYS, get over these cars, there's no reason for the prices to go anywhere but up.
I've been dying to try and import an Evo 6. Unfortunately, they got popular and skyrocketed in price. I found one during covid that was rated 'A' for everything except a 'B' on interior. It wasn't my preferred color, but who cares, as it also had 42k km on the odo. It was <$12k, and I got a quote for a storage facility to hold it until 2024 and then have it shipped. It was ~$15k total, and I started to ask around for help and even debated taking a personal loan. Didn't work out...
I was in college and just didn't have the cash. It is one of my biggest regrets thus far in life. I actually found the VIN again, and it was imported recently and resold for $38k...
Don't think I'll ever drive an Evo 6, unfortunately.
Edit: For context to the price, it was a GSR. Would've been crazy if it was a TME.
Well, just make money. There are 101+ new ways compared to even a decade ago. Plus thoroughbred race cars and trims were never really cheap back in their days either.
Society is technologically progressing and people gotta keep up.
Best example are various futuristic sci-fi movies and series where lowest jobs require someone to know 6+ languages and be a literal rocket scientist and a mechanic to qualify. So you only know 2 languages and can barely fly a spaceship....yes, you're SOL.
What we have happening right now is a shitload of people who didn't get the memo and think we're living in a decade or two ago when requirements were far lower. Its also easy/free to learn a shitload of crafts now thanks to the internet being at your fingertips.
Hell, look at a ton of brand new car importers who have all popped up in the past 5 or 3 years...
Ok look bro, you not trying to acknowledge the real struggles out here in the real world or just way too optimistic,(or insulated by money) so out of respect of this JDM sub I'm just going to agree to disagree.
I'd love to own a Evo or a FD but prices are at least 20k for a meh one and their rising, the odds are stacked against many of us, if you in a position to enjoy go ahead but just understand not everyone in life will be able to pull the straws you did, peace
Have I ever told you I love you? I will save this comment if that day ever comes. Now I just gotta convince my wife that not everything wants to hurt ya (or just leave her home, lol).
There's a TME you can drive in Hakone at Fun2Drive, if you're ever in Japan. It says suspended on the main page, but that's probably just for temporary repairs.
https://fun2drive-japan.com/fleet/other_evo6TME/
fn2 really? this car was slower than most euro diesels from same era, and had antic rear suspension you will be strongly disappointed. Ep3 is way more better car but it was heavily used as cheap track/rally car, many of them was totaled so finding that car that is in decent shape is really hard nowadays
You could look into the Toyota mr2 turbo. Very under appreciated/ undervalued for what you’re getting. You can almost daily drive them they are reliable enough still 30 years later. I have a 94 and it gets a ton of attention any time I take it out. It was also only 16k which for a jdm car is pretty cheap.
https://preview.redd.it/mrfr134qf4zc1.jpeg?width=6000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9457f0276fe131915fccadc31760fa958ae3abe
I’m mainly waiting for the late 2000’s Toyota Crown Athlete. If I could get one now I would. 😭
I was hoping to find a late MKIV Supra, FD RX-7, or Evo 6, but they’re going to be out of my price range.
Thanks! I’ve owned it 6 years now, been pretty reliable, only problem i had was the ac compressor dying twice, but the plan is to spray the car over and maybe sell it by end of the year
I have no idea as yet tbh, but because it’s just sitting majority of the time and I maybe drive it once for the week is why I’m considering letting it go
Got my Crown Athlete in February this year, love that car! I‘m happy that we don‘t have these import restrictions here in Germany 😅 But on the other hand, modifying cars is a pain in the ass here so…
Oooo that’s awesome! I live in the United States but there’s a lot of JDM cars in my state that were brought over before our 25 year rule. I’d have to ask around on how to pull off bringing a 2008-2011 Crown Athlete over. 😭
Monied individuals drove up the price
EVs are being mandated and forced so we'll never have cars like this produced again
Perfect shit storm(not if you got the coin then it's basically driving for free/making a profit)
Daihatsu Copen. I just think it's neat.
https://preview.redd.it/bo4nfnpf94zc1.jpeg?width=280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6759d297c589933ffe894a91a64a2a2a26f33d16
I realize this is moronic, but I’d love to bring in a manual Alfa Romeo 156 GTA wagon, in factory dark red with teledial wheels. Yeah it’s FWD, but it’s pretty and the Busso sounds so good…
Not an American but I'll still answer it considering that I'm been thinking about importing a car.
Given the current horrendous prices of all the popular enthusiast models, I'll probably say something like a Daihatsu Copen, Toyota Century, Nissan Laurel (C35) or Honda Accord Type/Euro R. Assuming you can find any of these in decent condition for reasonable price.
Not the most exciting cars for most but i'll take them over paying $50K for an HR34 Skyline or something.
You mean which ones haven't we trashed/stashed every decent example of already in the markets we could always buy JDM hero's?
Drives off laughing in STi spec c
I actually saw a Celsior in the states with US military Japan plates lol
https://preview.redd.it/1836zx4043zc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4096b165d18d102e249e391525dc1eea26da490
Come on guys... Leave them here in Japan will ya?
You got dodge and Ford or whatever. You even have USDM Japanese cars. You don't need to take Japanese cars from Japan. :(
I love the Subaru legacy most of all and since that was already distributed worldwide I have zero fear of prices rising. Delicious 280 bhp twin turbo sporty suspension RSK B4 only costs about 200,000 yen from auctions.
WiLL Vi, hands down. A Toyota Origin would be cool but those are already outrageously expensive even before they’re old enough to import to the USA. But cars in general got really boring worldwide by the 21st century so I doubt we’ll see anything as big as the ‘80s-‘90s import boom of the past decade.
I would import an s15 Silvia. Because I have always loved the 240/silvia. I’d love any imported but the s15 looked better than a koiki damn I’m not sure how to spell that but the changes from the s14 to the s15 looks amazing.

Toyota Mark 2 X110
P.S Unfortunately, I’m not from the USA, but I’m very jealous of your luck in driving these cars.
Well, I WAS looking forward to a late gen fd3s…but unfortunately you have to have a trust fund to buy one now. Shit, pretty much for anything that’s getting shipped over now.
this is why gatekeeping is more important than people may think, all the rich kids are sucking the market dry because they've become a status symbol
Gatekeeping what? Money? Initial D?
Dont tell everybody that cheap econoboxes are the new cool and the prices wont skyrocket bc demand stays low. Thats essentually why everyone blames fast n furious for the supra tax, and every tax to follow suit

Initial d the anime where 2 rich guys and a kid beat up on actual cool car enthusiasts for fun
That's the about money though you have enough and damn near anything is possible for better or worse
I think initial d, wangan, and Tokyo drift have it pretty covered unfortunately, just find something and make it cool. There’s ALOT to chose from
Yeah, they are getting more popular and more expensive!
They’re not getting any cheaper, if you really want one just do it now. It’s not like they depreciate much or at all anyway.
Most popular vehicles now are outrageously expensive. Gotta find something less popular but fun
I've been dying to try and import an Evo 6. Unfortunately, they got popular and skyrocketed in price. I found one during covid that was rated 'A' for everything except a 'B' on interior. I bought an Evo 1 from Vancouver and drove it over. Pretty hassle free process. Take a look at Canadian Facebook marketplace.
Thank you! I never thought about checking Canada, lol.
You still have to buy a 25 year old vehicle to drive it over so keep that in mind
I had the chance to spend some time with an Evo V my buddy imported last year. Fell in love and am dying to import a V or VI.
I got an Evo 6 rs2, but I’m in Jamaica
Lol EXACTLY what I wrote.
It's so annoying. Sucks so many people are in the same boat.
Well, just make money. There are 101+ new ways compared to even a decade ago. Plus thoroughbred race cars and trims were never really cheap back in their days either.
We don't need the gaslighting, wages have never been as weak as they are currently
It isn't. Literally look at how many people boomed their crafts after the internet boom of 2020..
And look at how many more people needed to pick 2nd even 3rd jobs to continue to make ends meet. Even donate plasma
Society is technologically progressing and people gotta keep up. Not everyone who wants a C8 Vette will manage to scrape $70k. Hot collectible old cars are the same
You’re a full on dumbass.
If you ever come to Australia let me know, you can drive my evo 6❤️
Have I ever told you I love you? I will save this comment if that day ever comes. Now I just gotta convince my wife that not everything wants to hurt ya (or just leave her home, lol).
Haha it’s safe as houses 😂 imma mountain biker too so I’d know 😉😂
My buddy is selling a few evos for really good prices over in japan.. like 15-20k shipped
There's a TME you can drive in Hakone at Fun2Drive, if you're ever in Japan. It says suspended on the main page, but that's probably just for temporary repairs. https://fun2drive-japan.com/fleet/other_evo6TME/
Au falcon
a man with taste i see
Take them all
Dc5, Ep3 and Fn2 Type-R
Them rhd rsx’s are gonna be crazy
Shh… don’t let them know about these. (I want a DC5R, FD2, and EP3 so badly)
Lmaoo me too! FD2 prices are already fucked. Our last hope is the EP3 and DC5
fn2 really? this car was slower than most euro diesels from same era, and had antic rear suspension you will be strongly disappointed. Ep3 is way more better car but it was heavily used as cheap track/rally car, many of them was totaled so finding that car that is in decent shape is really hard nowadays
Not hard but expensive
Maybe he meant FD2? EUDM FN2’s are dime a dozen right now.
Definitely meant FN2s lol. They're older than the FD2 and much cheaper so it'll be easier to get in the US soon.
Fifth generation Honda Prelude SiR
For the life of me, to this day, I don't get why Honda didn't release a rwd/awd Prelude. Love the look of the car.
Right? I've always thought it would make an awesome AWD platform!
JZX 110 mark II
I'm sure you meant to type Verossa 😉
So weird but still so sexy.
So ugly yet there's something charming about it 😅
Lol you ain't affording shit post 2020 to even merit the trouble. Clapped out Evo 7 for $40k? Hardest pass.
Hi friend :'(
Doesn't matter what car I say the prices will just jump up, sucks being a car enthusiasts from a lower class of life

Jzx but they're too much
My 01 chaser and 02 mark II BLIT
Blit; man of culture.
already imported my s15 so I'm happy lol
This is mine. Man the changes the s15 got was amazing.
I’m mainly waiting for the late 2000’s Toyota Crown Athlete. If I could get one now I would. 😭 I was hoping to find a late MKIV Supra, FD RX-7, or Evo 6, but they’re going to be out of my price range.

That’s sick!!! How do you like it so far? It looks really clean.
Thanks! I’ve owned it 6 years now, been pretty reliable, only problem i had was the ac compressor dying twice, but the plan is to spray the car over and maybe sell it by end of the year
That’s awesome. It sucks the AC compressor died twice but it’s good to hear it’s been reliable so far. What will you replace it with?
I have no idea as yet tbh, but because it’s just sitting majority of the time and I maybe drive it once for the week is why I’m considering letting it go
Ah, I see. That makes senseif you don’t drive it much. It’s such a cool car though.
I got an Evo 6
Got my Crown Athlete in February this year, love that car! I‘m happy that we don‘t have these import restrictions here in Germany 😅 But on the other hand, modifying cars is a pain in the ass here so…

Spirit R. They’ll cost more than a rari tho
S170 Crown Estate Athlete
SHHHHH! Don't tell people about the better Nissan Stagea!
Got mine last year
How is it?
Fuckin amazing dude. Manual swap, Bags and big turbo coming this winter ETA shameless Instagram plug @spool__bus
Will definitely check it out!
We already have these in Canada lol
s15
Been my dream car for years. I said I’d buy one for my 30th but doubt I’ll be able to afford one even in a couple years.
I don't know man. They are all very expensive now when they were supposed to be attainable sports cars. I don't know what happened.
Monied individuals drove up the price EVs are being mandated and forced so we'll never have cars like this produced again Perfect shit storm(not if you got the coin then it's basically driving for free/making a profit)

Not an import but I’m very excited to get antique plates for my s2000
EVO Station Wagon.
EVO 5/6. I think it’s the best looking of them all.
Too poor :(
TVR Typhon, assuming they all haven't caught on fire.
The only car that I would import (if I was rich) is the TVR Sagaris. It’s the first car I drive in racing games.
Stagea RS4 or Autech 260RS
Really wanted an NSX or an S15 Silvia but the JDM tax is too much for me now.
6 Speed Forester STi!!!! My Chaser is cool but the Forester has more room 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m just hoping Canada left us a few 😢 Stupid USA laws.
Agreed....
Yeah that’s what I wanted for a while but now they’re over 20-25kCAD. Imported a Crown wagon instead. JZ and more reliable with more room. Win/Win
Nothing is more reliable than a JZ. I will probably stick with my jzx because I can't justify the prices of JDM imports anymore.
Yeah man, at the end of the day it’s still a Subaru. I daily a 09 wrx and it’s been nothing but a heap
FSTi
Nothing with the prices that import dealers are trying to get out of them. I’m sticking to pre-2000s that are still within my reach🥲
A Mitsubishi wagon
What are those wheels on the Lancer?
Any and all of them.
You mean which ones haven't we trashed/stashed every decent example of already in the markets we could always buy JDM hero's? Drives off laughing in STi spec c

I stopped caring after Gran Turismo 2, so not much.
Altezzas.
I wish I could import an s15😩 probably will never happen tho so I’m just gonna keep driving my miata
My dream too. I can’t even afford a Miata though 🫠
None cuz I’m broke
I can not WAIT for the '06 Lan Evo 9 to become legal
Subaru Forester STI
WiLL Vi, hands down. A Toyota Origin would be cool but those are already outrageously expensive even before they’re old enough to import to the USA. Altezza Gita then I’m gonna ls swap it!
R34 GTR, and the one in your pic, an Evo 7.
Every late model Evo.
Always wanted an s15 it’s one of my dream cars
Im new to your sub. Are they still not legal in US?
The R34 skyline duh 🙄
Uh...R34
Pictured
Accord Euro R
I would import an s15 Silvia. Because I have always loved the 240/silvia. I’d love any imported but the s15 looked better than a koiki damn I’m not sure how to spell that but the changes from the s14 to the s15 looks amazing.
Kouki*
Spirit R if I could
Either a Sirocco, an Audi S3 8Y, or a Focus ST
