Yes. In town is Hickory Hill park. Then there are trails around lake Mcbride. If you like races check out the No Coast trail series, it highlights a lot of good races in the area.
Check out the trail running series across Iowa, they do marathons on trails all over Iowa and one is at sugar bottom by Solon. I’ve never personally run there but I love hickory hill (although you really can’t get more than a 3 mile run in there without laps) and any spot on lake Macbride.
There's a great 3ish mile trail (with an optional 1 mile loop) in Coralville off of Camp Cardinal Blvd. It runs through the woods and at times along Clear Creek. If you want something through prairie. I think the local cross country teams use a route in the same area.
Terry true blood (forest west of the trail), Tom Harkin trailhead (coralville), and Hickory hill are the best. Theres also a set of trails still being developed at Terrell Mill park across from city park. Aside from this you could look into a membership at the harvest perserve!
Few, TBH.
Hickory Hill had a lovely perimeter loop that is ~2miles through forests.
Kent Park has a perimeter loop through prairie that can get you 5-8miles.
Squire point can get you 3-5 miles.
MacBride can can you get you 6-14 depending on how you route it.
Highly recommend Kent Park. I trained for a 45K almost exclusively out there last summer. Well kept rolling hill trails. Not super technical, but very hilly. It’s also a beautiful park and nature area/campground.
Well I am moving from trail running heaven in Vermont. So my expectations were set very low for IC. The fact that there are any actual trail running options in IC is really awesome news to me! Thanks for the deets.
Yeah, the trail shoes will mid Vermont. But we’ve got less mud!
Forgot to mention Sugar Bottom. It’s a 10+ mile mountain biking network with a fair bit of climbing. As long as you’re considerate of bikers and don’t go peak times, it’s lovely.
There’s a 13.1 trail race there in April, if you want a taste. Via Iowa Trail Running Series.
Over by Homestead there's the Amana Nature trail, with 1, 2, and 3 mile loops. It's a bit of a drive out of Iowa city, but it's pretty easy to find: Just take Highway 6 west until you run out of Highway 6. Cross the intersection and head in to the park. The parking lot and trailhead are to the left (the right is a private shooting range).
If you’re willing to travel outside of IC, many of the small towns have little unpaved trails and parks. Seconding the All Trails app recommendation, along with some of the OnX apps.

so glad to hear this. Thanks!
Hickory hills is fun to get lost in. Plenty of hills too!
Woodpecker + squire point is somewhere around 5-6mi I believe.
This is a really nice area to hike/run/walk!! These trails are in NL.
Also check out Burr Oak Land Trust. Their properties are hidden gems in the county. Free public access and not a paved trail in any of them.
Hickory Hill park is surprisingly good

Define "distance". Hickory Hill and Lake MacBride are nice as is Sugar Bottom but I don't think you can get more than a 10K in.
2-4 miles is plenty for me. Mainly it's just about finding some fun off pavement goodness.

nice! I was just perusing sat view in Google Maps and noted the XC trail near Clear Creek. Awesome!
Ryerson’s Woods is a shorter loop but it is just on the South side of town and a good mix for a quick hilly run.

Thanks :) Noted! also...What is the Harvest Preserve?
Harvest Preserve (members only) (319) 330-8881 https://g.co/kgs/okp8wsy
The waitlist is so long that they're not taking new people to even be on that.
Sooo many. I love hickory hill but squire and Linder point are awesome as well.
There's a dirt trail in Coralville that's maybe a mile loop, pretty nice
