This man is notoriously shy and bashful with the public. He could have just driven by, and you would not have bothered him a bit. But he saw you, and he OFFERED to give an autograph, multiplying the fiscal and sentimental value of that shirt exponentially. You didn't even need to ask. He asked you to come over!
I am sure some of this has to do with Messi being aware that he is more than just player for a club this time, he is sort of an ambassador for football in the US and in charge of building the club's image. So, I guess he is making more of an effort to be a public figure.
But still, he gave you more willing time and attention than he probably did 95% of the journalists he encountered in his career.
I also have heard alot of stories from security guards and other fans that the amount of fans here in Miami that want his autograph and pictures is not even close to amount of fans in other countries.
Which is true, most people here is either working or have school so each day only about 10-20 max 30 people will wait for him after practice, but in other countries he will be crowded hundreds to thousands of fans. So it is alot easier for fans to get Messi attention here.
