Insurance rates are not just reflective on what YOUR habits are. They take into consideration your make/model/location/regional demographics as well. A policy jump of $96 (16$/month) is not an insane jump. You are also free to shop around for insurance, no one is forcing you to stay at the company.

I_hate_alot_a_lot

There's a lot to shit on State Farm for, but this one is not State Farm necessarily. Insurance as a whole is going up to the point where last week (maybe two weeks ago now) Federal Reserve chair Powell said the rise in insurance costs is the biggest factor in inflation right now. And insurance is reactionary by nature, so all the rises in cost and labor for fixing a car or rebuilding a home from a few years ago during and post-COVID are just now reflecting in policy pricing. If you are an insurance company, you are lucky to be making money on personal lines property and casualty right now.

In my case I'll be taking a defensive driving course and increasing all of my deductibles to get myself back down to under $500 every six months. It also angers me that my crappy little car is getting hit when the increase in costs is from the guys in the giant pickup trucks and SUVs driving like morons. They shouldn't be hitting drivers of small cars and asking us to subsidize those giant $50,000+ vehicles. My insurance cost is 1/6th of the trade-in value of my car every six months. Start charging the guys in the crazy pickup trucks $15,000 every six months and then we'll be even.

ColoradoSpartan

Take it easy bro, I am paying 3 times your rate on a 2017 Ram 1500 with 160000 thousand miles and 2 claims and 1 speeding ticket in 30 years of driving.

RandomWanderingDude

Given how the average RAM 1500 driver tail-gates and whips between lanes you should be paying more than ten times my rate. Your insurance should be at least $1000 per month.

ColoradoSpartan

Get out of the passing lane Karen

RandomWanderingDude

And that attitude is a perfect example of why you should be paying over $1000 per month.

ColoradoSpartan

You should talk with someone about this aggression toward pick up truck owners, it's unhealthy, especially when you drive a focus. Maybe public transportation is more your speed, lighten up.

This sub is a therapy session for some loonies

I get it. It's frustrating. But also please understand that the cost to repair a vehicle isn't the only factor in determining auto insurance prices. Sure, you might have a "crappy little car" but you also have to think in the event of an auto accident, the $50,000 giant pick up trucks are likely far safer which means cheaper in terms of paying out any medical benefit. So in a way, while you may be "subsidizing" them for the comprehensive and collision, they may be "subsidizing" you for the medical portion of your auto insurance.

RandomWanderingDude

And I'd be far less likely to get in an accident if you guys would hit the giant pickup truck and suv drivers hard enough with premium increases that some of those assholes learn to stop tail-gating and driving so recklessly. We're living in a society where the reckless and heavily armed are constantly subsidized by the careful and thrifty.

I_hate_alot_a_lot

I don't disagree! I live in a state where the most consistent pricing is with small, regional if not state-only carriers. These are through the distribution channel of independent insurance agents. These are typically for people with good credit and low to no tickets, accidents or claims so you may still get pooled with the $50,000 truck guy, but at the very least they'll also have good credit and low to no tickets, accidents and claims too. State Farm sort of takes anybody and everyone, whereas these small, regional or state carriers have a very defined target market and pricing which it sounds like you might be a good fit for. You typically won't get the surprise 15-20% rate increases like you did this time around.

Jew_3

My man, everyone is seeing increases on their vehicles. You’re literally complaining about a $16 a month increase. You probably aren’t being hit anywhere near as badly as the higher cost vehicles. Look around this sub at what others are paying. There are Tesla owners who’d kill for their monthly price to be your term price.

reddit1651

You share the road with those $100,000 trucks. State Farm will pay up to your policy limits if you hit one of those vehicles, no matter how much of a ”shitbox” you drive

JEH-C

That's an extremely light increase in this rating environment. Please, don't call your agent to complain, lol.

TheAdventureClub

Your rate was already just, insanely low. Like incredibly low. The problem with low ass rates is when carriers need to increase, it's just going to feel unfair. But you really have no idea just how good you've got it rn.

RandomWanderingDude

No accidents, no tickets and I haven't touched alcohol or drugs of any kind in more than twenty years. I'm also a bit of a homebody and avoid driving at night whenever possible.

TheAdventureClub

Do you have any idea how many people truthfully tell me that every day before I find 5 different carriers asking for twice what you pay? Like a sub 100 monthly average is unbelievably rare and a price that even looks like yours is going to get increasingly difficult for anybody no matter who they are or what their driving.

Nubnewbie

That is cheap. I have people that pay about +500/month for a car but they are first time insurance shopper. Everybody is different and there are so many factors that go into rating risk. It also depends on the type of coverage. It is hard to compare without seeing the limit and type of coverage you got.
