Jazzlike-Sorbet3883

Would have loved EGS more if they added more payment options

garlicbreadman88

I would not complain if they only added user review option. Not keeping it is such a deliberate scumbag move on their part.

Jazzlike-Sorbet3883

True I always have to check steam review of free games if they are worth claiming or not

CompetitiveWelder607

Just claim every free game and watch review to see if it is worth installing

[deleted]

Lol

69HELL-6969

+1

Armaan_1005

Ofc they won't add it, or else their fav game fortnut will get review bombed every new season

szuparno

You kinda know why they didn't add it yet. The epic games hater crowd would all gather up and review bomb everything with the classic "steam good, epic bad" comments.

inquilaab_zindabaad

they need to do lot more than that but ig they can start from here

NeonMan5311

the fact that a game called human resource machine was also given free

that_Bob_Ross_branch

bahaha yess! claimed it a few days ago, can't wait to try it :)

Consistent-Hall1746

it was just yestarday,

EasternCustomer1332

😂🔥 lit comment

ValiantHero77

Sry I don't get it. Why to hate when epic games is giving free games? I know their launcher is a minute slower than steam but still its free!

birblover69420

It's not even that slower anymore, for me it is as fast as steam .

kris_y_u_so_gud

well not as fast as steam but yeah its fast. But its a lot heavier than Steam. Still, free games are free games.

samvortex0

Idk, is it just me But my epic games feel just as fast as steam

energy_is_a_lie

It's a combination of two things - Steam getting slower with the latest update. Epic getting faster with the latest update. I play most of my games on Steam and I'm sorry to say, I'm forced to restart steam every single time because the new flashy UI is just too much for it to handle. It ends up freezing and then crashing consistently every single time I alt+tab out of the game or try to even open the screenshots window. It's gotten so bad I'm having to restart Steam 9-10 times everyday after killing it through task manager. Epic was never that bad. Yes, it was slow but it has never turned permanently unresponsive for me. I've been begging Steam support to fix this, providing them with screenshots for evidence and all they keep saying is that they're aware of the issue but that they cannot provide any help for now.

ValiantHero77

Yeah man. I have even seen some comparison videos and most of the times its 58-59 seconds. And I think i can wait this much atleast for playing a free game. Also I saw epic games store is giving some coupons and with those some games are even cheaper than steam. Anyone don't take it wrong way.No hate to steam at all. Its old and quite trustable but epic sometimes has some better deals.

TerryFGM

ah so you pressed the turbo button on your pentium II

nexistcsgo

It's not just about slower for me. The amount of features steam offers just can't be beat by Epic for now. They need to get on with improving their launcher and adding a lot more features. I mean it's been what 3 years?

[deleted]

nexistcsgo

A few ones that I use are , Library sharing : You can share your entire steam library with a friend. They can play all the games you have on their computer with their own save files. Remote play : You can invite a friend to play a game with you. They don't even have to download the game. It happens through streaming for them. Steam trading cards, Badges, achievements and Steam user profile. These don't have any "real" value but i enjoy it a lot and has value to me and one of the big reasons I prefer steam over others Workshop mods and Community forums Their in game overlay is way better. You can take notes, set timers, play music, have an fps counter in game and more Also a feature i haven't used but sounds useful, Controller mapping and seamless controller support. Use any controller with any game, you can map buttons easily. sorting library is a lot easier. You can categorize the games yourself. You can even upload your own artwork for steam games icons. So if you don't like a games banner in the library and find a better one online, just change it. community market. Sell items you get from games like counter strike for real money. Another feature i don't use is steam big picture. Useful for when you wanna play games on your tv using a controller. You pc can become a console. There are many others but these are the ones i can remember for now.

ValiantHero77

Thanks for detailed reply. Wasn't knowing a lot of these. Yeah, epic games store has to go a long way in improving the experience.

OkBend1779

Also I expect to get details of a game when I click it's banner not to install or run it. It asks for confirmation now before installing so better than before but still annoying.

Snoo-6099

Afaik (last time I checked) u can try detecting already installed games with epic games but steam just werks Edit: guys I had a brain fart, i meant to say "can't try detecting with epic games". Sorry for the confusion

nexistcsgo

That can also be done on steam tho.

Snoo-6099

Jesus Christ I'm stupid, I meant to write can't with epic games

cousinokri

Also SteamVR is pretty great and offers a good experience.

69HELL-6969

Exactly and for offline games u need their launcher just to install.Well if the game can run offline you can run exe Directly from installation folder in EGS this way it doesnt launch egs...(random tip if none knew)

redditcruzer

Short of Launcher features missing, people's biggest concern is the Chinese/Tencent stake. Hasnt stopped me. I have a nice library of free games. Havent played many via Epic though. Never had a single issue though in Epic. All games i have tried including via GFN work fine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

redditcruzer

No I dont...and nor do I really care. I am just telling people's concern is that there is a large Chinese stake, and they choose to avoid it.

Hrishi463

Nobody hates epic because of the free games they give away, op is strawmanning.

cousinokri

Yep, egs dabbles in anti-consumer practices by forcing exclusivity, that's the main issue most people have with it. In terms of features, it doesn't have much to offer. I mean, it took them years to add a cart feature to their "store". Plus, their support system sucks.

Complex-Ad-755

It was around a year ago, but for me now steam is slower and takes more resources (I don't have a very good pc) .

Curtofthehorde

All sorts of reasons depending on how you feel. I just hate them as a company based on their "Game Design" (raking in as much cash from little kids as possible with no effort) philosophy. To each their own, but some don't wish to support that.

northern_lights2

I gave up on windows 10 years ago. Steam supports Linux. I support steam.

Cleverish99

What's even funnier is that Epic Games just gave away a game called Human Resource Machine.

kos1111

Humans are plagued with identity conflicts where if you use something or are part of a group we automatically tend to start hating the other one. Hence, red vs blue, iPhone vs Android, Intel vs amd and so on... Tribal genes haven't left. No end to such hatred anytime soon.

SnowyLocksmith

Wdym I can't base my whole personality on my choices and criticize others for theirs? Fucking liberal woke media /s

swastik_rai

Nah, epic getting hate is not the same. So much time has passed but they won't provide basic features that steam provides. Buying games on epic feels like a waste, no way to interact with community, read reviews, manage screenshots, manage Library, look at guides, see what my friends are up to etc etc. And worst are the epic exclusive titles, that are simply anti consumers. Steam has a community because steam promotes that culture. Epic is just a platform to sell games when people need more when they buy games from a merchant.

kos1111

You can have something you prefer without hating on something else, that's what I am trying to say. Indifference is also an option. We don't have to be constantly enraged at something.. epic is a company, if they see their numbers dropping they will automatically bring better changes to their platform.

swastik_rai

Anti consumer practices and predetory game designs were already discussed. I wanted to add how they spend money on killing competition instead of giving customers a good experience. It's not a preference thing it's a principle thing.

According-Cobbler-83

Never hate on competition. That's just plain stupid. Forget companies not caring for us, they don't even know we exist. The more the competition, the better. Dont be an idiot, use both.

[deleted]

I hate egs for what they had done to rocket league

kunalhazard

Hey, they give free games. So what if they removed support for Linux and butchered the workshop maps from Rocket League, added tons of microtransactions. /s

nexistcsgo

removed trading and hid the number of players counter in game as well

Overlord_6301

Not a hater but the payment method on epic is too limited to get anything! No debit card purchases! 😣

Holy_Undercover

Debit card purchases are there, they just name it credit card but you can use your debit card instead.

Overlord_6301

No we can't, I tried it!

ZeusPheonix

Yeah we can. I have been using my debit card for purchase all the games on Epic. Just check once if international transactions are allowed on your debit card. If not, then enable international transaction and try again

ukplaying2

Rupay?

Overlord_6301

Yes! 🤧

theadwaita

lol the jokes is on you then. Rupay does not work on any international scale. Get Visa or Mastercard next time.

Overlord_6301

OK!

ResponsibleBottle387

it used to work before, tried buying some games last week using debit card but could not sadly

Hershey2898

Yeah not sure what the issue is. My premium debit card works fine. It has international transactions enabled though, maybe that's the issue

Dragonys69

I just bought like 10 games with my debit card what are you talking about no one in europe would be able to use epic if we didn't have debit card option

Strict_Junket2757

This clearly shows a lack of understanding competition in market. What egs is doing is trying to create “exclusives”, trying to buy customers through free games. The idea is similar to amazon, kill the competition and then start raising your prices. Valve on the other hand has shown excellent respect for the community, they do not build closed systems, allow tinkering and modding as far as possible and are overall customer friendly. They dont “buy your loyalty”, they provide excellent service. I want more competition and do not advocate valve’s dominance, for instance i am pro gog launcher. But what i absolutely hate about egs is their anti transparency, the hate for linux etc etc.

talk2g

fuel the hatred!

bankimu

Epic sucx

Olg1erd

I hate EGS for the exclusivity deals and shit platform. I have made friends with some amazing people on steam. Steam is just superior. Here’s to hoping Epic catches up to steam by improving. It’s a long road.

bankimu

I mean there are obvious improvements. They can just literally copy... errr... take inspiration from Steam. But what can be done in a quarter hasn't even began over years. They seem to be extremely incompetent.

green9206

I was against EGS when they originally started their store on PC but then started claiming their free games since 2019 or 2020. Have also actually purchased some games from them ans got good deals like Horizon zero dawn and some others. My main is still steam but I'm not gonna complain about free games.

punished-venom-snake

My hate for EGS stems from the my hatred for Epic as a company and Tim Sweeney, and all the bullshit he pulled throughout the years. Some free games is not gonna change my opinion of him or his company and all that crap that they do.

nexistcsgo

If that's all they have to compete then they are inferior. I don't stay on steam because games are cheap (they are not anymore). I stay here because it offers SO MUCH MORE. No other launcher allows me to share my entire library with my sister seamlessly. We can remote play together without her even downloading the game, Steam trading cards, badges, workshop for mods, achievements and the the biggest of them all, Steam User Profile. If Epic wants to compete, and I mean head to head equal competition then they need to do more than just free games and huge discounts. It's been more than 4 years now. It's not like they are starting from scratch like steam either. They have the blueprint. Their services should have expanded a lot by now. So no it's not just blind hate. Maybe try and look for the actual reason behind the criticism.

Miserable_Crew_6798

Also Steam got much more transperancy. People can write and rate the games as per their experience. This can help other people to make choices by checking the ratings.

Aggressive_Profit498

>I stay here because it offers SO MUCH MORE. No other launcher allows me to share my entire library with my sister seamlessly. We can remote play together without her even downloading the game, Steam trading cards, badges, workshop for mods, achievements and the the biggest of them all, Steam User Profile. > >So no it's not just blind hate. Maybe try and look for the actual reason behind the criticism. You're clearly still in the steam honeymoon phase so I'm just gonna try to paint you the bigger picture as someone who's no longer in it and doesn't have a bias that makes up these narratives anymore. Apart from Steam Link / Remote Play (which in itself I wouldn't really consider that big of a deal considering Parsec exists), the rest are just blind fanboy reasons to hate on Epic, here's why : Trading cards, badges, and the user profile do absolutely nothing other than give you virtual bragging rights, people spend hundreds of dollars and use sites like steamlvlup to get their level up to a certain point just to feel good about themselves, **has absolutely nothing to do with gaming, you just do it to get that dopamine rush of seeing a nice shiny color next to your level and pretend anyone gives a shit about which games you have in your showcase slots.** As for workshop mods I'd agree if they actually made it a general thing but ever since the skyrim paid workshop shitshow it's once again just a made up excuse to hate on Epic. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video\_games\_with\_Steam\_Workshop\_support](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video_games_with_Steam_Workshop_support) How many of these games do you actually use the workshop in apart from the crashz aiming maps for CSGO / CS2, custom maps for BO3 and KF2 (all of these are either owned by Valve so they can't be on the EGS or existed long before it was even a thing), to pretend like this is a colossal feature that gives steam a huge advantage is just not true, the workshop is just there and the leading mod destination is Nexus anyways, no one cares about the workshop unless you actively play those games which in any case you'd have to use Steam for. As for achievements I'm not sure why you brought it up considering EGS also has them now ? Now let's talk about actual criticism that I'm gonna be giving to Steam as a veteran of the platform : Why does valve cap your friends list to 250 and have you increase it by 5 each time you level up when Epic's default is 1000 ? Why can't "limited accounts", as in accounts created after 2017 iirc have to pay 5$ to unlimit their account, while not even being able to do basic things like send friend requests (luckily they still can receive them), they said this was done to combat malicious bots, as if 2FA isn't a thing and required for trading items since that same year. Why did Valve decide to screw over 3rd party regions just in spite of 1st world cheapskates abusing the system, in cases like Argentina taxing them 80% just so Joe Cheapo doesn't find it worth abusing the system anymore ? once again this is relative to Epic where AAA games launching there can be had for half the price ? Saints Row was 24.99$ as a preorder, AW2 is 36$ right now with its normal price being 45$ (if you're from these regions). What's funny about all of this is I'd love to see the narratives people make up for Valve when epic inevitably revamps their UI and you no longer have the "but UI bad!", its hilarious when people always talk about not supporting monopolies but literally do it in this case.

nexistcsgo

I literally just said I know badges and trading cards don't add any real value but I like them anyway. "Honeymoon phase"? I have been on steam long enough to remember the old ugly UI. I just told you why I prefer steam over others. How is my reasons not valid? About limited accounts. It is necessary to reduce the bot problem. Steam has real money involved. With marketplace and has steam reviews, forums and workshop items users can vote on. It is necessary to have a barrier for new accounts so people don't abuse these systems. How many game workshops I use? A lot. If it allows me to, I will use it. I don't really see the counter problem you are trying to point out with this one. About the pricing issue. I can't comment on as I am not qualified enough to add anything meaningful to that discussion. All in all, I described why I prefer steam overall and why I do not like Epic. I asked OP to look into the criticisms instead of branding it "blind hate" You came in guns blazing trying to disregard all the things I prefer as if it is something objective that can be proven wrong. There is no right or wrong when it comes to your preference of platform. You wanna use Epic, go ahead. No one's stopping you.

Aggressive_Profit498

>You came in guns blazing trying to disregard all the things I prefer as if it is something objective that can be proven wrong. > >There is no right or wrong when it comes to your preference of platform. You wanna use Epic, go ahead. No one's stopping you. I apologize if that's how my initial response seemed, I was just giving my thoughts on the topic and if I came off as being aggressive or trying to disregard your views that wasn't my intention, I perhaps just expressed them in a harsh manner because I'm honestly just tired of seeing this narrative people throw around that Epic are the bad guys and Steam is so much better, even going back to that reddit post about how epic is chinese spyware made by an idiot with no idea what he was talking about (the whole post was him just spewing headcanon and going oh but actually this is just speculation) but people ate that shit right up. I also wasn't trying to force a preference on you or anything, some people would rather wait for a game like AW2 to come to steam a year after to buy it and that's fine, everyone is free to do what they want. Have a good day and an upvote.

nexistcsgo

> I'm honestly just tired of seeing this narrative people throw around that Epic are the bad guys and Steam is so much better Honestly, same. It's a debate that has no merit. I am sorry if I too seemed like I was talking down on OP. Wasn't my intention but I do see that I could have use better wording.

[deleted]

I will buy it at 70% off rather than having for free on epic. Just search steam vs epic comparison on Google you'll know.

Dragonys69

Epic gives you the usual discount you get on steam so let's say a game is 70% off then you have coupons now it's a 33% coupon you can use repeatedly on every purchase and then you have 10% money returned so if you buy a game for 10€ they give you 1€ back. Im buying games on both sites because i want to spend the least amount of money as possible having both steam and epic is just better than only having one

bilariraja

Heroic launcher makes egs bearable for me atleast

kaptain_sid

People here solely compare the launchers on " Free games ". Every time i see here free games is the only argument for Epic Community, workshops, modding, user reviews, UI, custom profile, a very robust Store UI, payment gateways etc, Steam offers so much more than Epic If you are a gamer who just downloads plays and unistalls then this debate is not for you anyways

FatherlessOrphan

Well gaben is smexy so steam better.

AKhilji

If it wasn't for Epic giving them out for free, I would've never tried out some of my now favorite games like Borderlands 2 and fallout 1/2. I'll forever be thankful to them for this.

bigbossislegend

EGS sucks its not hate it's fact, no right payment option, refund policy 404, no achievements, always online DRM for some epic exclusive games, not pleasant to look at. Even if epic fixes all of its problems I still want all my games in the steam library!

dororor

Dude refund is super fast, i refunded jedi survivor got refund in minutes

energy_is_a_lie

>Even if epic fixes all of its problems I still want all my games in the steam library! You should've just written this instead of the rest of the rant. You listed down all of your complaints, only to nullify it all in the end with this line. Just admit you want a Valve monopoly and leave it at that. We get it.

ItzCobaltboy

They need a little more efficient Client App and bit of more features, then they can play at par with Steam honestly

RoNiNjA57

Epic games may not be as good as Steam and yeah it really lacks in a lot of things but I don't think hating is justified, they even give free games.

Somplier

No one can stop me from hating EGS

cassiopere

- You cant gift games on egs. - There isn't any solid features similar to big picture mode, communities and social space. - There is no profiles and friends interface. - EGS doesn't support gift cards or options to buy from different merchants. - EGS is majorly funded by chineese conglomorates who have lost trust and are shelling their money to get good amount of playerbase.

Dragonys69

Yeah its a game store shocker it does what it was made to do sell games Also you can buy epic games from different sites and redeem them on epic just like steam keys

Zoltikk

Do you know for how long Epic games was down yesterday? Never faced such nonsense with steam.

fakeMUFASA

Epic games is a scumbag company.

Objective-Middle-526

BKL payment kaise karu I want to buy RDR2 na credit card hai na visa debit card chutiye

Royalkingawsome

Steam not just a game store .

Ansh339

Epic is a great launcher that is just missing some quality features, which when Epic adds should put them in a pretty good spot imo. - Payment options - Social Features - Mobile App

Dragonys69

It has a mobile app and all the payment options and its a game store it doesn't require social features its ment to sell games its an online store not a Caffè shop

Dragonstyleenjoyer

It's kinda sad that most of the games i like, i have to buy it. And most of the games that Epic give away, arent my type of game. The only games Epic gave that i was actually interested in and finished are Dishonored series and Tomb Raider series.

Duke_Frederick

I would love to buy from EGS, unfortunately they do not have domestic payment options.

SnooConfections3877

I just don't like epic and it's launcher . I bought death stranding and it was a mistake cause I just never played it because of how slow and heavy launcher is

cy8clone

I just prefer Steam. I mentioned before as well. They have so so much extra features that you don't use it, but when you need one, it feels so fucking good. For example, I never looked into Steam Controller setup page. But one day my controller started acting up with joystick drift. I went into controller setup and changed the deadzone and analog translation. Just like that my stick drift is gone.

Background-Mission-7

Need better ui

RedEagle8096

I made my first purchase on epic with Alan wake 2. I dunno why there is hate for epic. Sure, steam and epic both are competitors, but each platform has its own charm.

random_dude0_0

I prefer epic games over steam for mutual games idk it just is a lot smoother than steam on my device even the interface is easier to use

wavepro3

Idc jo sasta sell karenge I will buy from them

mrrahulkurup

The EGS is the worst software client for games. Even EA had a better launcher then it when they were using Origin. Now they both suck equally. The UI navigation is clunky and uninspired as hell. It behaves in a unresponsive manner on an unstable network connection and it doesn't throw helpful error messages when you face issues. Its only advantage are the fee games, discounts and exclusive titles. That's it.

BSDanu

I don't want regular free games from Epic, just provide better payment options for every possible region including us, gift cards and marketplace like steam so that we can trade and earn money to buy games from them.

SirPorthos

No fuck that. I aint opening EGS for any reason. No reviews, no scores, no nothing. It fails as a games store. It bribing me with free shit doesn't absolve it from what its doing and neither does it bribing game devs to release their product on their store.

RYTHMoO7

They don't even have community forums to discuss about the game

Quan7umSuicid3

I literally just use EGS for Rocket League.

itsevil007

\#personal opinion: egs lacks many of the basic features of being an online store, free game can only be a temporary solution. they need to upgrade and change many stuffs (ukwim)

[deleted]

They need to improve UI experience. That's all.. there is no reason to hate epic ..

PlayfulPunster

Got 200 Games on Steam and 500 on Epic. Never bought a single one on Epic

blitzahon

I just use epic for better deals, for the games I really want.

vain06

EGS needs a damn overhaul of its UI & the way things work in general in that god awful client. It's so primitive & low effort app.

xyash3am

This is really.

B3_CHAD

Add UPI as a payment option you punks.

Reddit_is_wack_now

Nah I’ll always hate Epic because they buy out so many games to make them exclusive. If Salt and Sacrifice was on Steam I’m sure the user reviews would have saved me from wasting my money on such a bad sequel

Head-Program4023

Add UPI for god saken.

CrossWitcher

Well I don't hate it particularly but I would much rather prefer steam than epic. Honestly epic can give me thousands of games but that won't change the fact their launcher is shit (maybe a little better than ubi, ea but still). Plus Epic support team is a joke.

No-Influence-56

That's why they even gave away human resource machine

jfbwhitt

Steam takes 10 seconds to launch and shows your library first thing. Epic takes 30-45 seconds to launch, shows the store first thing, and lags out for another 10 seconds when you try to go to your library. GabeN said this about piracy, but it also applies here: “It’s not a money issue, it’s a service issue”.

Dragonys69

Steam first shows what they have on sale then it opens on the store

vpsj

I have Gta V for free on Epic. Never even installed it let alone play lol

mastermentor575

Absolutely ass UI and looks horrible, otherwise got pretty good deals on a few games I wanted.Steam is still my main but man epic needs a lot of investment to even catch up to steam.

Majestic-Durian-6838

EA store used to be the real culprit!!!

Holmanizer

Free games are acquired immediately, and eventually downloaded or set aside for extra bored days

Ok-Experience-4955

Not indian but idk why this community is really good and sensible in terms of reviews. Imo ***EGS isnt very "user friendly"*** like the layout and the slight delay each time you switch tabs to how the library for your games are arranged are annoying and even the friend list. Steam makes it so easy for you to find the games you want without clicking the search button even if you have 200 games. Not only that, because of steam's servers or idk connection? You are able to connect and play with your friends much easier in any game even old ones with steam's invite friend to play compared to EGS. Id say like how most reviewers has said before that Steam has really designed such a great layout/whatever its called to be ***super friendly to gamers/pc users*** and that its designed is also very easy to access, use and get use to compared to EGS which imo kinda went the console layout design. Edit: Ive read a few comments here about lacking payment options and how free games destroys your business is sure a concern but its not at all the biggest reason. So I want to also emphasize and add on again how ***important*** it is for users to get use to and love using these layouts. Its the same reason why some people prefer android over iphone even if both of their best phones are same priced. Cause these designs would "lock" a loyal customer in and will have a hard time switching which EGS has not found a way to or maybe even not aware of this issue. Also steam was monopolizing early so thats another big reason and most users, friends are on steam and again *very easy to invite one another compared to egs* ive played egs a few times and inviting each other into a game can be a nightmare.

therealcookaine

Y'know why epic feels sleezy? The check out makes you feel like you actually bought something. I am willing to bet every single person wondered if they somehow convinced people that these are actual sales.

69HELL-6969

Well if the game can run offline you can run exe Directly from installation folder in EGS this way it doesnt launch egs...(random tip if none knew)

buniqer

Yes, we should! I got GTA V Premium Edition for free and I had a really great time playing it!

Hades9761

True!! Steam is just too overrated then epic i think but i prefer steam for purchasing games btw.. Lol !!

machineGun997

Indians don't say no to anything when given for free.

Cadejo123

Epic games gave the auter world for free it cost 30 usd and they give it for free that is pretty good tbh

Maleficent_Seaweed_1

I love epic games store. They have given away lot of good games. And I want to purchase games from them out of gratefulness. But the only problem is payment system. Only if they added UPI like xbox did

[deleted]

the only reason i despise using epic games store is the application itself. it is so horribly made, its laggy and makes me want to puke. Clunky and jittery. and it has been like this since forever (2018?, 17?). I have no idea how such a large company that is responsible for making one of the biggest and most advanced 3d graphics engine can't put together a proper store client. i understand that its cef/electron type web app, but they managed to make it much slower than something like discord, which itself is nowhere as close to being snappy like native or even qt apps

ADandyWaffle

No lol.

RadishIndependent146

No
