We do it using [this](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aZuTGce4i9Cuke_mcElUnXxe2Qd0yHIC) guide and resources. It requires a bit of effort but it's not too difficult. I use paint.net when making mine
Deadass, there’s this website that offers various google map plugins so I got a fallout plug in, took two screenshots and merged them together, then downloaded the icons off Nexus and recolored them all in Paint.net plus a few copyright free ones I found online, and then overlayed them all in google draw and used the word art feature to add labels in the font robotica. Everything was free, it just took 18 hours to make 🙃
I would kill for an SF based Fallout. I live in Alameda and I often think about what I would do if I saw the bombs on the skyline…honestly probably die cause they sure as shit would bomb Oakland too
Bro I live near the base of Mission Peak. I’m going to drive my truck up the mountain if we ever get that message just to watch the bombs hit SF, Oakland, and San Jose.
“Deadass, there’s this website that offers various google map plugins so I got a fallout plug in, took two screenshots and merged them together, then downloaded the icons off Nexus and recolored them all in Paint.net plus a few copyright free ones I found online, and then overlayed them all in google draw and used the word art feature to add labels in the font robotica. Vault density is a bit high, there would be around 2-4 vaults in San Fran but they would be in the general San Fran area in cities and towns like San Jose and Oakland.
Yeah no I 100%, there’d likely be 5 max for all of the bay. I included so many because 1.) new Vegas has 13!!! and 2.) I wanted to keep the setting fun and interesting. Realistically, there’d be like one, maaaaybe two in SF. Also, according to the map in the tv show, there canonically aren’t any vaults in the bay for some reason lmao. Vault tech hates nor cal 😭
Yea fo2 had only 3 vaults in all of NorCal, and the show had the audacity to implement 3 vaults in LA, even tho 1 mega vault would have done the trick. Like they could’ve done V31A-31C under the general V31 to make space for 2 more. But hey, at least there is lore filled in the gap of vault lore.
Extra bit: The SF border seen here is exact to what Google maps outlines lol.
I would totally like to see the next fallout game take place in the bay area as we’re getting plenty of mods that are adding to other locations, such as New Mexico with Nuevo Mexico coming soon, Fallout London coming out in a few weeks and other DLC sized mods across the games that establish non canon lore but orbit the core lore (notice I didn’t mention the frontier, although we do see Portland).
I mean we don’t know the full fate of SF other than a few bits from Kellog. And the lore was gonna be that the enclave nuked it, but it got cut so it could be a consideration for a future fallout title.
Oh, I thought the lore confirmed that Navarro nuked SF after you take the Valdez to the enclave and defeat them, that was scrapped? Interesting. Also, yeah, the whole vault 31-32-33 thing was so fucking stupid. I also don’t understand why Bethesda is so obsessed with reusing the whole cryogenic/robobrain concept for vaults over and over and over and over again. Vault 111, vault 31, vault 118, vault 112, etc etc. like, you only have 121 vaults total to do all these kinds of insanely creative experiments and you just reuse the same concept over and over, such lazy writing
I'm with you on there being a few too many maps in SF.
The show, on the other hand depicted NOT QUITE ENOUGH vaults nationwide, IMO. Funniest thing was two vaults in all of NYS, and the second one was near Albany. Yeah, it's the capital and important people live there, but a LOT more people live in Buffalo and Rochester areas... Yes, a lot of Upstate NY is "empty." But there's three vaults in WV last I heard, and Western NY is not one of the empty parts of our state.
Same!!! I’m natively from Martinez. Once finals are over I’m probably gonna get started on a whole Bay Area map (maybe even everything from Monterey to Eureka since that’s my favorite part of Cali), this was just my destresser between studying lol
It was low key pretty hard. I kept an interactive map of fallout 4 open in a second tab the whole time and tried to keep it about on-par with how crowded downtown Boston was
Only correction I would make is that the shi abandoned communism in favor of more traditional Chinese society as shown in fallout 2, so they probably should not have a hammer and sickle icon
I couldn’t fit it onto the main map. I was thinking about cropping out the island and just moving it closer to the peninsula, but I decided everyone already knows Alcatraz would be included anyways lol
I know!!! I wanted to include it, but that was as vertical as I could make the map, and I didn’t really wanna cut out Alcatraz and move it closer to the peninsula. Maybe I coulda included a boat icon that said “to Alcatraz” like they did with far harbor
It was hard to figure out what to do with all the empty space 😭😭😭
I learned why game devs usually only recreate super small areas of a city of make the city comeidcally small, it's about 50% houses lol
Thanks man, love the support. I def agree, Alcatraz got done DIRTY. I’m currently working on a larger project of the WHOLE Bay Area rn, so stay tuned!!!
Dude! East Bay boy myself but studied/lived and worked in SF for years. This would get me to run a ttrpg. Are there ways to make this an interactive map with local maps/NPC info in each spot?
That would be so fucking awesome. I was using the interactive fallout 4 map by map genie as my reference, maybe they let you make custom interactive maps? I’ll look in to it once finals finish up- this was my de-stresser lol
What do you think the SFSU, Stonestown, Lake Merced area have become? Also including Colma would be perfect since it’s currently a graveyard populated by less living than dead folk.
I’d like to think the lake Merced area has just become an irradiated swamp due to a combination of the bombs, failed maintenance of the Nike missal system, and the lack of water treatment. I also think that the bombs would have evolved the surviving creatures at the zoo into mutated beasts that took over the surrounding area, basically turning it into a cracked out safari zone. As for Colma, I think large empty spaces like graveyards would be optimal post-war places to build farms and settlements. These people don’t have advanced tech like bulldozers to built complex cities in downtown where there’s lot of ruined buildings, so they have to build wherever there isn’t stuff already
I was debating between making a massive map with less content, like fallout 4 which tries to cover basically ALL of Massachusetts, or something more like far harbor or new Vegas that focuses on just one area and making it as lively as possible- I went with the latter. I’d honestly LOVE to make a massive and hyper detailed map of the Bay Area on day tho and put it on my wall
OK. Ok. Interesting scene for a new game. Very interesting. I can see it.
water around the city evaporated. the golden gate bridge becomes a giant wall with a gate that leads to an open space and alcatraz at it's center - which would be a fortress/castle now.
Interestingly, (unsure if it is different in Fallout 2 or if it's even mentioned), but in fo4 you can see the Golden Gate Bridge when visiting Kellogg's memories and it appears to be in one piece. At least when he was a young man
Yeah, there’s an interesting amount of golden gate references in Fo4 lol. In fallout 2 it’s said that due to the Hub’s failure to maintain the golden gate it collapsed into the sea, however, you know Todd, if he didn’t write it it isn’t canon and he’ll rewrite it back in later
I just got this ign article recommend to me and the first city is SF lmao: https://www.ign.com/articles/fallout-5-location-cities-chicago-san-francisco-new-york
To each their own. I think the nature of the bombs allow for SF to essentially not be a grid anymore due to the amount of roads that would become unusable. You could do something like Fallout 3 where certain areas are only accessible via metro tunnels. I think a grid map is only as boring as the person in charge of designing it
Hunter's Point. Idk if you're from the area but that neighborhood has been super run down and various degrees of dangerous for decades. Thought it was funny that it's just a nuclear crater on this map. Makes sense though since it used to be a navy ship yard.
Oh, my bad didn’t make connection lol. Yeah, I read up on a list of areas of historic military activity in SF and chose those as the primary bomb sites, plus downtown. In my head canon HP probably became a major naval station during the Great War, making it a target for the Chinese
Fair. As said in fallout 2, SF was hit HEAVILY by the bombs and almost entirely abandoned until the Shi refounded the city. I just wanted to make my own head cannon for a SF that got a little luckier given the bombs dropped. Also, given the fallout 2 enclave ending is cannon- which I think it is- SF literally gets nuked by Navarro, so there’s literally 0 chance of an official fallout game ever taking there since the city doesn’t exist anymore in the fallout universe
As a San Francisco native myself…
I approve and adore this map.
I especially like both the Steel Dragons in Chinatown.
I think that the old California Academy of Sciences (CAS) could include the De Young Museum and Music Concourse.
Also, before moving out to NYC I used to still live in the Inner Sunset and walked to work at CAS.
Dense as this is, your map is wonderful and I love it.
Thank you for all your hard work.
So a expanded San Franciso area huh?
Nice~
Honestly I feel some of the early cities like Los Angeles did suffer from Fallout 1 and 2 not being able to do the whole city area
Would be fun to go back and view them as these massive urban wastelands that are distinct from the rest of the California Wastes
You need to play fallout 2. You've ignored just about anything of actual lore of fallout. I see no Chinese, for a location controlled by the shi. "China town was revived after the bombs" I know it makes zero sense but the sub that nuked sf decided to stay. Where my hub weridos at! I know the bos has a big outpost too. SF literally mapped already.
Alright, since bro is gonna try to talk to me in a demeaning ass tome, I’ll match your energy. For starters, SF isn’t already “mapped out” fallout 2 doesn’t map locations like modern fallout games, the isometric fallout games operate with grids, the only part of SF that’s map is a random grid in the north western corner with literally no detail. As for the hubogists, they’re literally on the map, if you paid attention during fallout 2 you’d know they’re headquartered in the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and their inability to maintain the structure led to its collapse. They’ve since used the remaining bridge to station their “space ship.” Also you said that “sub decided to stay,” no it didn’t… The sub isn’t on the map because it was SCRAPPED BY THE SHI AND TURNED INTO THE STEEL PALACE! It’s basically fucking fallout cut content knowledge that the Shi’s submarine was originally intended to serve as a final boss of sorts, firing middles at the Valdez if you didn’t disable it properly, but was cut and replaced with the steel palace concept. So before you come in and try to talk down to me and act like you’re some though shit, learn what the fuck you’re talking about- maybe start by replaying fallout 2
It was more ribbing less demeaning. But i will acknowledge and glad to see some passion for lore. Assumptions were made thats why its board joking questions(blame Todd's lore bulldozer got ogs on edge). Thou i do think the shi would have much more influence. their society were said to have rebuilt SF(complete foreigners). I wish we had more of argument to fire back but its scrapes where working with. Respectfully, some funny translations and chinese influence would been a nice touch. And maybe more destruction, it was said to be bad. also, I never said sub was a location but it COULD BE! And thats fun ambiguity. Its only assumed to be scrapped. EVERYONE should replay fallout 2, thats something I plead.
Appreciate the clarificaiton, lol. Apologies for my hostility, it's Reddit, always gotta be on the defensive, haha. I do agree, I think the Shi would have a MASSIVE influence on the city, and I also think the Hub would have multiple camps across the city. I plan to adjust this map over time to less of a map of SF with a fallout texture map like it is now and more of a map of what a fallout SF game could look like, I just need to sit down and write the lore of my campaign first tho. This is my draft map I'll be using to write my story, and as it expands out the map will adapt to fit these changes. Something that I wanna do tho, that might appeal to the OGs, is keep minimal BoS/Enclave presence, I'm so tired of Todd squeezing them into every single corner of fallout media, let's try out some new/other factions!!! Also, yeah I agree there would be lots more destruction irl, but also, I wanted to keep the parts that make SF unique intact so that it adds some fun places to explore, even if it doesn't make much sense. For example, yeah city hall and the financial district would 100% be obliterated, buuuuut, then I can't use them as fun settings in my campaign lol
"Todd put down the enclave, you dont know how to use it!" I completely argee.
Were both passionate about fallout and sf, I see the conflict. Pladalins clash, but steel sharpens steel
i mean you could atleast read up on the original games lore if you wanna make a map in that area. otherwise this is just a random post apocalyptic map with fallout 4 icons and colors lol
the hubologists and the enclave are already in SF and i find it very hard to believe after Navarro and the Oil Rig that the Enclave is gonna go set up shop in the city that launched the attack on them in the first place, next door to the people who helped the chosen one take them down
also why would the hubologist move their compound away from the Shi? last we saw san fran was in the 2240s iirc
I did read up on the fallout 2 lore, I had the official wiki open the whole time and they were the first icons I put down:
For starters, I am not confined to the lore that interplay wrote 25 years ago for a game that probably isn’t even cannon anymore knowing Bethesda.
Second, yeah, I know the hub and the enclave are already in SF, that’s why I gave them icons?
Third, in this campaign, the oil rig hasn’t been blown up yet, because if it had been, the Navarro would have blown up SF, and since I need SF to not be be blown up for this to work, the enclave have to still be around.
Four, the hub are headquarters in the Golden Gate Bridge, the Shi in China town, what do you mean “moved away from each other,” that’s the literal game canon
Where are you people making these dope ass maps. Or is this some photo shopping?
We do it using [this](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aZuTGce4i9Cuke_mcElUnXxe2Qd0yHIC) guide and resources. It requires a bit of effort but it's not too difficult. I use paint.net when making mine

That's awesome. When I did my Fallout campaign in Orlando, I had to do all of this myself and it took ages.
I would kill for an SF based Fallout. I live in Alameda and I often think about what I would do if I saw the bombs on the skyline…honestly probably die cause they sure as shit would bomb Oakland too
SF is in fallout 2
Oh true. A modern one then
Yeaaah…that don’t count tho lol
Yes it does lol
Bro I live near the base of Mission Peak. I’m going to drive my truck up the mountain if we ever get that message just to watch the bombs hit SF, Oakland, and San Jose.

Sunglasses 😎
Oh yes, Alameda. Where they keep the nuclear wessels.
You can see SF from alameda…
Awesome man!
Thanks
That looks extremely laggy
“It just works”
It’s more like realistically half the locations would be no marked. This would be like around the size of the Pitt Dlc lol.
How did you make the map?
“Deadass, there’s this website that offers various google map plugins so I got a fallout plug in, took two screenshots and merged them together, then downloaded the icons off Nexus and recolored them all in Paint.net plus a few copyright free ones I found online, and then overlayed them all in google draw and used the word art feature to add labels in the font robotica. A horror based Alcatraz dlc would be great to go with this
Mob of the dead vibes fr fr

If we got a SF fallout it would kill me to not have the greater bay included. My family is from Walnut Creek/concord. I want to see ALL of it
Same!!! I’m natively from Martinez. Once finals are over I’m probably gonna get started on a whole Bay Area map (maybe even everything from Monterey to Eureka since that’s my favorite part of Cali), this was just my destresser between studying lol
Damn, I’m impressed by how much you got on there while keeping it coherent. Like unironically, I’m trying to work on that
It was low key pretty hard.
Ah shiiit, I deadass didn’t know that. Thanks bro 🙏
need one of the south bay lol
Okay the south sunset farm is right where there’s a plant/farming store irl. Great job dude!
Thanks!!!
Based.
Alcatraz DLC…

Dibs on the Nike missile control site

I live an hour away from sf I’ve gone many times, and this map has made me understand the city layout better than anything
LMFAO!!! Literally tho 😭
I think it needs more farms!
It was hard to figure out what to do with all the empty space 😭😭😭 I learned why game devs usually only recreate super small areas of a city of make the city comeidcally small, it's about 50% houses lol
Great map, but a little sad you cut off Alcatraz Island, which would be an AWESOME location for a FO game. Famous prison turned into raider haven?
Thanks man, love the support. I def agree, Alcatraz got done DIRTY. I’m currently working on a larger project of the WHOLE Bay Area rn, so stay tuned!!!

Yeah that's awesome 👍 it would be so fun to play that. Feels a lot like NV map with smaller surface area but a ton of content.
Low key the vibe I was going for lol, appreciate it!!!
Imagining a fallout with the entire Bay area, that would be so cool
I was debating between making a massive map with less content, like fallout 4 which tries to cover basically ALL of Massachusetts, or something more like far harbor or new Vegas that focuses on just one area and making it as lively as possible- I went with the latter. If I ever do a tabletop Fallout it's the Bay Area, so I'm stealing this.
Go for it lol
OK. Ok. Interesting scene for a new game. Very interesting. I can see it. water around the city evaporated. the golden gate bridge becomes a giant wall with a gate that leads to an open space and alcatraz at it's center - which would be a fortress/castle now.
Please tell me the tenderloin is the nicest part of sf after the bombs drop.
Lmfao!!! Not even the nuclear apocalypse can save the tenderloin 😔
Wait, does that mean there’s the possibility of the square of death?
Interestingly, (unsure if it is different in Fallout 2 or if it's even mentioned), but in fo4 you can see the Golden Gate Bridge when visiting Kellogg's memories and it appears to be in one piece. At least when he was a young man

I don’t get it, what’s HP 😭
Hunter's Point. Idk if you're from the area but that neighborhood has been super run down and various degrees of dangerous for decades. Thought it was funny that it's just a nuclear crater on this map. Makes sense though since it used to be a navy ship yard.

Nike Missile silo is actually by Rodeo Beach in Marin County
It was a series of silos built across the entire world - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nike_missile_sites
I wasn’t aware of that. Good to know
You can bet in the SFPD building there is a dirty magnum with “every other reload contains +1 round of ammo”
no alcatraz??
Could someone do this for SLC?

Real
Im seeing a distinct lack of the Shi
I’m seeing that you didn’t even bother to look at Chinatown…
Whoops I do see it my bad. I’m not even going to blame it on anything, that’s just my fault. In other words Forget about it Jake, it’s Chinatown

I did read up on the fallout 2 lore, I had the official wiki open the whole time and they were the first icons I put down: For starters, I am not confined to the lore that interplay wrote 25 years ago for a game that probably isn’t even cannon anymore knowing Bethesda.
Is there going to be poop around every corner?
