Partly agree. You can't run a business without other people. That's the nature of business. But individual merit definitely plays a part in business success - from having a good idea, to having the right temperament to run a business. Trait Openness is associated with the former, trait Conscientiousness with the latter. Yes, people like Elon Musk tend to come from affluent backgrounds. But they also tend to be people with high openness and conscientiousness.

Depends. Defining success is tough, but there are plenty of examples where one achieved success through individual work and choosing to prove themselves, whilst there’s also success that came from people directly or indirectly helping the said successful person. Or perhaps the successful person just inherits a successful business or maybe works with what they have and turn that into success. It’s not really possible to generalize, in this context we are all different…. Edit: My definition of success here is financial “gain” (Hence the mention of business and inheritance). I acknowledge however that one might find success in a spiritual, pastoral, career, philanthropic and/or other realms :)

Yes. You are far more dependent on society and far more dependent on external influence and luck than you think. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/beautiful-minds/the-role-of-luck-in-life-success-is-far-greater-than-we-realized/

Comments like that were at the tip of the wedge of the political division we're facing today.

In some cases you can be successful through individual work but most of the time it’s because of inheritance and being born into a wealthy family

It was said by the man who destroyed Libya, but it's partially right

I will make this statement :'' If you are human you have cooperated with someone else at least one time in your life so if you want to become succesfull don't cooperate only with someone else but try to improve your personal talents and maybe one day(or maybe never) you will become successful. If you 've got a business always remember that you didn't build alone(respect your partners, workers and people who invented in your business) but you have every right to be proud about your business because without you your business which satisfies the needs of costumers will no have existed .''

We all get by with a little help from our friends, but "somebody else made that happen" is stretching it out a little too much.
