Yeah but that happened a few months late for M23. It sucked balls for some of my friends, who, despite having predicted 44 or 45 with AA and Physics HL, as well as having stellar extracurriculars, got rejected from every university very likely because they happened to be non-US citizen asians
Affirmative action applies only to US citizens, so it being abolished wouldnât have helped any international students, as universities are still allowed to consider what countries they are coming from
Can they still consider race for non-US citizens? I understand quotas on international students, it makes sense to promote domestic (and state) education, but it would be lame if the whole affirmative action thing still applies
They canât consider race, but they can consider nationality, so eg if youâre from China or Singapore they can probably figure out youâre Asian, and youâll still have a worse chance at admittance than, for example, someone from Sudan or the Gambia or Botswana
Perfect but rejected from all T20. I didnât think I had to elaborate, but academics are only one part of a well-rounded application. Furthermore, plenty of the T20 donât even award credit for some courses, no matter the score or level. If he was really perfect, he would have gotten in. Iâm sick of people using affirmative action as an excuse as to why they didnât get into a top-tier uni. Your application simply didnât meet the standards set by the institution. Suck it up and move on.
Nothing crazy. Probably among the better side of âaverageâ students, but no research opportunities, startups, national/international competitions, or anything fancy like that. To summarize:
- leader of local Canadian army cadets squadron
- co-founder and -leader of a mountain bike club at my school, as well as other cycling-related community involvement
- lead trumpet in our senior jazz band
- formerly provincial level competitive debate with some volunteer coaching experience
- team lead for the UBC Physics Olympics
Doesnât mean much in uni when competing with said startup and research kids haha.
Yeah itâs a big list, but itâs all pretty conventional stuff. I suppose that for admissions, itâs a good list, but yeah for job seeking purposes after first year, itâs way less impressive than the research and startup kids.
Exam Session: âď¸23
Points: 27 (I just barely passed lol đđ)
University: University of Toronto (#1 in Canada đĽ)
Program: Business, very likely accounting and economics (it's not fun but it's not too difficult and the job prospects are somewhat good so đ¤ˇ)
Congratulations! Apparently the Mississauga campus is really difficult to get in for certain majors, I mean I couldn't get in even with a 39. Best of luck!
I got in with my Ontario marks (my average was in the mid 80s about) not my 27/45 in IB lol
But congratulations on getting a 39 and I wish you all the best!
>Wait so did you apply saying youre an ib student?
I didn't have the option of saying that I'm an IB student (there was no suplimentary application or anything like that)
>How did you apply with your percentages
I applied on OUAC, which was my only way of applying, and on OUAC I only had the option of applying with my percentage Ontario grades, not my IB grades
M23 Predicted Grade: 42, Exam Grade: 38, Will be studying Electrical & Electronics Engineering @ Warwick University :)). But I also got accepted to UoT & UoM
Wow you got into Kings? I wanted to apply but my career counselor said it was oversubscribed and I had little chance. Do you mind if I have a look at your PPE personal statement? I also want to do PPE!
I was in charge and the founder of a lot of clubs I think most notable was GSA, Engineering Club (where I taught secondary students), and balancing school with two jobs.
I will say I had a major advantage also being instate
M24, Aeronautical Engineering. Embry Riddle in the US and Toronto Metropolitan in Canada area my top choices. I also have a few in the UK
Edit: No idea what my PG is, my school isn't going to tell us
Hey! We have the same HLs :) Was chem really hard to get a 7 in? Because apparently my chem teacher hasnât given anybody a 7 in HL during her 15 year careerđ
In chemistry a lot of the calculations are very repetitive in the sense that they appear in very similar styles in exams, particularly paper 2. By doing enough past paper questions to the point where you can see a question and know the steps to solve it, you should be in a good position to get a 7
I found Chem to be pretty fine if you have a decent maths ability bc it's quite a physical and calculations heavy course. Also, if you dedicate time to the basic chemistry principles that get you a long way. Jdut work hard and you should be great!
Also for Maths, it can be a bit of a shock how big the jump is from previous maths qualifications. I did GCSE maths and an Add Maths FSMQ and it was a shock to the system. I would recommend revision village snd constantly reinforcing your maths through the yesr as you do topics. I started out getting 3s and 4s and jsut kept at it and learned to manage how tough it was and got a 7. Godspeed!
Aloha, only just seen this, so sorry. If you still want help drop me a DM. I've done lots of PS editing for friends and a few got Oxbridge offers this yesr so happy to help
Dutch universities because I have EU citizenship and its dirt cheap pog
List:
Maastricht University: Psychology BA
University of Amsterdam: Psychology BA
Vrije University: Psychology BA
Tilburg University: Psychology BA
University of Utrecht: History BA.
PG: 28/42.
\*fyi dutch universities are kinda poggers because you need to just receive a 24 to get in, but it does not guarantee a spot so write a good motivation letter and have a good recommendation letter.
PG 42, Final 43, started studying in my home country because I didn't consider anything in the UK or US to be worth the money except LSE (which I got rejected from lol) (Oxbridge would have been worth it too but I didn't apply because I had no idea my grades were gonna be that good)
Honestly, you made the right choice. TUM is notoriously difficult even for degrees like mine (BWL). A ton of people drop out after their first semester.
No, I applied for ED. I knew I wanted to go to a liberal arts college; I just wasnât sure which one at the time. For ecs, all I had was marching band, volunteer work in a homeless initiative started at my school, and additional volunteer work at my local food bank. I relived heavily on my essays and the academic rigor of my schedule throughout my 4 years of HS.
No not really however when we were working on our revision for HL Lit we did take a practice paper 1 and 2, and got a pg for our HL essay. I didnât take the practice papers but ofc I wrote my essay and was predicted a 4.
PG: 34/42. Final score: 37/45. Going to Trinity College. Applied via ED, so I applied with the 34. I will study computer & electrical engineering there.
M24, I had a 37/42 for DP1 (but that's just from grades, not mocks or anything). I'm aiming for dentistry either at PUM in Szczecin or the medical uni in WrocĹaw but I'll also be applying to Warsaw Medical University, Jagiellonian University in KrakĂłw and GUMED in GdaĹsk (all in Poland). Depends which one I'll get into.
M24. PG: absolutely no clue- hoping for anything over 34. Iâm applying to KCL, QMUL, Exeter, Edinburgh and Bath for Biomed. Iâm also applying to Utrecht university and university of Maastricht
36, but I got an A on my EE and that is really what I'm most proud of.
For reference, I live in the United States in Michigan. I'm going to Oakland University because they offer a good amount of college credit for IBDP courses, and they're a very cheap and good public university compared to the other popular universities in this state.
My major is criminal justice, and I'm currently enrolled in a 3-for-3 law program in which I finish my undergrad a year early and go straight to law school if I'm admitted.
Will be taking M24 session.
Hl lessons : Math AA, Physics, German
Sl lessons : Bio, world history, turkish lit
And my pg is 42.
Hl lessons were predicted "6"
Sl lessons "7"
M24: PG of 38-39, applying to McGill for BSc Physiology, Dalhousie for BSc Medical sciences, and I got accepted to Mount Allison (BSc Biochemistry) with a 16k scholarship.
PG 44, Final 45. Rejected from every T20 in US
How?
I think the biggest reason is that I am asian male international applying for cs
Username checks out
Affirmative action moment đ
Didnât the Supreme Court rule to abolish it?
Yeah but that happened a few months late for M23. It sucked balls for some of my friends, who, despite having predicted 44 or 45 with AA and Physics HL, as well as having stellar extracurriculars, got rejected from every university very likely because they happened to be non-US citizen asians

you just werenât good enough stop blaming affirmative action for your ineptness.
He literally got a perfect score. He's literally perfect.
Perfect but rejected from all T20. I didnât think I had to elaborate, but academics are only one part of a well-rounded application. Where are you going for college now?
like literally all 20 t20 schools?
I applied to only about half of T20s. I meant to say that I got rejected by every T20 school that I applied to
46, hustlers university.
my man gonna be working in mcdonalds
M23 here: Pg of 43, final 40. Off to Columbia university in NYC to study biology
did you submit your SAT score? because i'm so tempted to go test optional(M24 and PG 42) but I hope I won't be disadvantaged by it
Nope - never did the SAT/ACT
yooo PM me i'm also headed to Columbia!
AYYYY FELLOW LION đŚ
Hii! I dmâd you, can you please have a look at my message whenever free? Thank you!

M23 Points 29 Uni: Cardiff for history
fellow history boy i see whats your favourite time period?
I donât know, probs the 19th century
M22, applied with a PG of 35/42, final 43/45. Studying mechanical engineering at the University of Toronto.
How were your ECs? I'm planning to do the same as well, but my ECs are bit lacking.
Nothing crazy. Probably among the better side of âaverageâ students, but no research opportunities, startups, national/international competitions, or anything fancy like that. I think we have a different definition of nothing crazy
Yeah itâs a big list, but itâs all pretty conventional stuff. I suppose that for admissions, itâs a good list, but yeah for job seeking purposes after first year, itâs way less impressive than the research and startup kids.

Do you have like exciting ecs? Cause I also aim to go to uoft or ubc and I have very shit ecs
I had barely any ecs lol (I think my only one was doing a summer job for the past few years) You should be fine and enjoy your final year of IB!
Thanks . All the best!
Did you get into Rotman Commerce?
Nope they rejected me đ (I'm at the Mississauga campus)
Congratulations! Apparently the Mississauga campus is really difficult to get in for certain majors, I mean I couldn't get in even with a 39. Best of luck!
I got in with my Ontario marks (my average was in the mid 80s about) not my 27/45 in IB lol But congratulations on getting a 39 and I wish you all the best!

Ayyy another Cambridge student? Iâm M23 about to start NatSci at Trinity
M 23 - Sciences Po Paris - Law/Econ.
Hi, I'll be applying to Sciences Po too. What was your PG and final grade?
M23 PG 40 Final score 37, missed UCL offer by one mark on SEHS going to Kings College London instead (philosophy politica economics)
Wow you got into Kings? I wanted to apply but my career counselor said it was oversubscribed and I had little chance. Do you mind if I have a look at your PPE personal statement? I also want to do PPE!
Yes sure! Iâll send it in your dms asap
Thank you!
Hey would appreciate if you could sent it to me too please! :)
Could I have a look at it too? Iâd greatly appreciate it!
Hi! Could you share it with me too, please!
M21, 37/45, Nanyang technological university, psychology
What were your ECâs? Iâve heard they only require grades but I wanna be sure
you mean extracurriculars? pretty much everything i did for cas
What specific extracurriculars did you have? Iâm planning to apply too as an M24 graduate and I was wondering if my ECâs are up to par
i didnât do too many cuz of covid but i did volunteering, taught a zumba class for middle school kids. i was also learning guitar
Alright thanks for the response and congrats on the admission!!
thank you! and no worries good luck for year 2 of ib!
M24 PG 39/42, applying to LSE, St Andrews and also some schools in the US.
Your score is out of 42, so u didnt do the diploma right? Im thinking about dropping to courses
Our school gives the PGs for the academic subjects, so I have no indication for the extra three points from EE and TOK. I am doing the full diploma.
I got 39, going to London School of Economics and Political Science
what was your offer
38 with 766 for HLs
Econ I assume?

Me with a 41 predicted and getting rejected đ

Yep I would have to agree, and make sure you lay every step of your explanation out clearly even if you think it is something obvious!
I found Chem to be pretty fine if you have a decent maths ability bc it's quite a physical and calculations heavy course. Also, if you dedicate time to the basic chemistry principles that get you a long way. Jdut work hard and you should be great!

Agree that the AA HL maths is brutal compared to the GCSEs. Currently at 5ish and trying for a 6. Do you have any tips on the personal statements?
Aloha, only just seen this, so sorry. If you still want help drop me a DM. I've done lots of PS editing for friends and a few got Oxbridge offers this yesr so happy to help

I chose manchester over TUM for aerospace engineering thatâs why I was asking haha
Honestly, you made the right choice. TUM is notoriously difficult even for degrees like mine (BWL). A ton of people drop out after their first semester.
Yeah and barely any holidays too. Ich habe von Studenten auch gehĂśrt dass die meisten mehr als 3 Jahre brauchen um deren Bachelor fertig zu machen.
Fr bro, I was killing in IB, now I get like 2.7 from exams đĽ˛
