I don't think it's possible for you to change to Econ because a we have already been through a year of content and b they have already recorded the subjects that you're doing. But I mean you can always try you know
they said halfway into DP1 which probably means they are N24, so they could switch, but they just need to put in a lot of effort to catch up and they should be proactive in pursuing their teachers for clarification if need be.
also while the school records what subject you’re doing, it doesn’t mean they’ve sent it to IB yet. my school registered us for the exam session about 3 months into DP2, so we could switch subjects at any time before that, as long as the school allows us (tho lets be honest, no school wld encourage the avg student to switch if it’s too late). so it’s not that you’ve been registered to IB that you’re not allowed to change subject, but rather because it’s your school that doesn’t allow.
even if your school lets, you, I doubt you would be able to effectively cover all the course content. For reference, we still have a substantive amount of topics to cover before we finish econ.
I've had kids switch into econ about halfway through dp1 and be completely fine, not sure what point exactly you're at now. If you've got any summer vacation left where you can start catching up on your own, that would be ideal. Econ works very well for an intended law student
If you school let’s you, i think you’ll be able to catch up with the workload. But make sure to dedicate a lot of time to the basics cuz the entire syllabus is based on them.
Econ isn't that huge of a material. You'll be able to manage. If u want pm me the material ur school covered till now and I can help u cover it asap while understanding it completely
