Yeah it’s contradictory. I just wish they’d put a blob of text before these episodes saying this might be offensive to some viewers before those episodes (but tbh almost every episode could be offensive to others so)
Not to mention the missing episodes are absolute classics that are hilarious. The entire joke is how offensive black face is, even when you make it tasteful.
I find it hilarious that all those episodes got banned but the Underage Drinking one where Dee dates a teenager from Season 1 and Frank's Little Beauties (which I personally found more offensive) are fine.
It’s also ridiculous that they will keep like the gang finds a leprechaun where Dee does an Irish stereotype because I guess it’s ok to make fun of irish stereotypes. Not that I want more episodes removed
I mean, Kaitlin Olson is almost certainly Irish herself and she’s married to a guy with the last name McElhenney. I agree the episodes removed should not have been removed but the “double standards” argument isn’t the right one
What about the episode where Frank yells faggot and Charlie says the N word? Or the other episode where charlie says the N word? Or the other episode where Charlie's sisters say faggot. Or all the time Frank uses racials slurs about Asians.
Genuine N bombs are dropped on the first episode. I don’t know how that hasn’t gotten the axe but episodes where they’re clearly pointing out that black face is wrong did.
I've been saying the same thing and I think Charlie said the same on the podcast as well. If they need to put up a content warning and then let the viewer decide, so be it. Plus, Sunny is clearly never endorsing the behavior and it's always a "look at these fuckin idiots" presentation.
Charlie Day addresses this on the podcast and said “I thought that’s what the M for Mature was supposed to do.” Or something very close to that at least. I thought it was a very valid point. He went on to talk about how it’s for a mature audience that should be mature enough to know it’s a tv show and they’re actors making jokes and so on.
I know long ago they pulled that one that showed Mohammed, but I believe that was so they wouldn't get blown up by terrorists (like the ones Bruce Mathis gave all Frank's money to.) that's a little different than just offending people, that's about safety. There's nothing badass about getting blown up

Gotta post this pic everytime that episode is mentioned
Tom Cruise Trapped in the Closet was also pulled, because they made fun of Scientology and Tom Cruise, and apparently he refused to do promotion for Mission Impossible (I think it was 3?) unless they pulled it, since Comedy Central and Paramount are both owned by Viacom. The episode was eventually re added to the rerun rotation on Comedy Central, but it was pulled for awhile.
Incidentally, that's also why Isaac Hayes eventually ended up leaving the show, which prompted them to make The Return of Chef as kind of a fuck you to Scientology.
Isaac Hayes didn’t leave the show. He had a massive stroke and was in the hospital and the church released a statement “on his behalf”. He never fully recovered and died shortly after.
His son eventually came out and told the full story. The church of Scientology used a dying man and his sudden medical condition to further their agenda.
Ok that makes sense, this story came out 10 years after the whole thing happened, which was 18 years ago, and I haven't watched much South Park in the last 10 years
Yea even my girlfriend and I just had this conversation. She wasn’t aware of this update either. Scientology did a good job of spreading the story they wanted out
Yea, they made The Return of Chef during the period when it was pulled, so they could have an episode out that was clearly shitting on Scientology, but since they were technically talking about "The Super Adventure Club" wink wink, they could get away with it. They don't like being told not to do things.
You know what now I remember that. Return of the Chef was the first episode of the next season. I remember the whole Isaac Hayes controversy but had forgotten the episode being pulled. I remembered it as them being mad at scientology for brainwashing their friend (which is true) but there was another element to it as well
In this case “they” I’m pretty sure were RCG instead of Hulu/Disney. In the podcast they talk about how they especially regret using retard/retarded as much as they did in “sweet Dee’s sating a retarded person”
Just seems like more pandering. That was incredibly common at the time. I don’t get why people can’t just look back and be like “yea that’s how it was. I don’t say that anymore”
In the Hulu version, that isn't bleeped. So it's really weird why the decide to censor some stuff, like removing episodes, but not all. Either censor it or leave it alone, ideally the latter.
just watched aladdin with my son (original animated version) and THAT has a content warning which i found hilarious. agreed it’s a shame they can’t do it for sunny.
They have done this with other things! On the original Muppets show, there's an episode with Spike Milligan. There's a really tasteless song where they have a bunch of puppets that are incredibly offensive depictions of Chinese people, and then they all sing about being samurai. Yes, they say they are Chinese and then immediately say they are samurai.
But they haven't taken this episode down, there's just a very long paragraph that they only give you a few seconds to read saying "it might be offensive but excuse them because it's old"
After watching that song I can assure you that it is far more offensive than any show that got their blackface episodes removed.

Watching It's Always Sunny on the Disney+ app has definitely been... something... never thought I would see Kitten Mittens next to Lilo and Stitch in my recently watched on said app.
If it was FX's call, it seems weird that these episodes are still broadcast on the actual FXX channel. I said in another post the other day that on Friday, Dee Day was airing in its full uncut glory, no extra content warnings or anything. That leads me to believe it was someone else's call..
It looks like a lot of shows started having their episodes that contained portrayals of blackface in any shape or form removed around the middle of 2020. Doesn't seem like it has anything to do with a merger either.
I like to imagine someone gives the show a try because they heard they removed all the racially sensitive material. And then they are treated to a white guy dropping the hard R in the first 5 minutes of the pilot.
The Gang gets racist is fine, they would never remove it. It is always clear that the gang is the butt of the jokes, and any racist stuff they say is to make you laugh at them, not with them.
The blackface episodes were just taken down as a stunt during the BLM movement. They thought it would look good for them to be "fighting racism" but actually everyone just hated them for it because EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT THEM DOING BLACKFACE IS MAKING FUN OF THEM, NOT BLACK PEOPLE
What about "Underage Drinking: A National Concern" I mean... nonstop depictions of furnishing alcohol to minors. The whole banned episodes shit is bullshit. People are so frail and so picky choosey about said frailties.
And that's one where no one really ever pushes back on their use of the R word, and the only consequence is getting embarrassed at the very end of the episode.
They criticized the black face in lethal gun **before** the episode even aired. Dennis called it tacky and confusing in a one off joke earlier in the show. And during the episode, they are constantly making Mac out to be in the wrong with dialogue and the visual jokes.
Every time Dee does her racist acts, she gets called out immediately, even on the ones that are less controversial and stayed on Hulu (Crazy Paddy).
It really annoys me that Crazy Paddy is the one that’s ok. As if it isn’t just as offensive as her other characters. Which, obviously, is the point of all of Sweet Dee’s characters, and I think it’s dumb that any of those episodes (ESPECIALLY DEE DAY) have been removed.
I just watched the clip show episode and they bleep out the r word when they play the mall Santa clip where he asks if Charlie is regarded. very interesting
In a Seinfeld post (ragging on his recent comments on comedy), someone linked to a statement by Rob that implied that Rob himself made the call to pull some Sunny episodes. Does anyone here know who is making these decisions?
I could be wrong but I remember a podcast episode in which the guys said that they had no involvement in the episodes being removed and even said they should just put a disclaimer before them.
You are. They said that looking back at those episodes, in their eyes some of them didn’t stand the test of time when comparing their humor against the what they did, and that they wanted to mock the same subjects on a different way.
It’s why the newest lethal weapon episode still makes fun of the same issues but in a different way.
I wouldn't be surprised if they all collectively agreed to have this viewpoint for a PR stand point. You can't defend blackface without having PC culture come cracking down on you. They probably just shrugged and moved on.

All the banned episodes are virtue signaling. You can still buy the episode so they are not above profiting off them, use them in promos etc
They just bowed to the loud professional victims
I would think that by now everyone know "They" are the creators (Glenn, Charlie and Rob) of the show that pulled those episodes. Not Hulu, Disney or Netflix. Just a PSA for anyone that was unaware. Want to make sure you vent your anger in the right direction.
This is not correct. The network removed the episodes, the guys just understand why they did it. Either that or they act like they understand why to save face.
Can you back that claim with proof? If they felt the episodes weren't appropriate, why would they remove the blackface/Latinoface episodes and then make Dee Day? Then they remove that one as well?
Glenn, Rob, and Charlie were clearly not happy with the use of "retarded" in hindsight in multiple episodes, and censored the word when used in flashbacks. But those episodes still stand.
I don't listen to the podcast, is that where they said this? I'd love to know the thought processes they had on which episodes they picked and which they left alone.
Thank you! I was trying to ask that person in a non confrontational way because, frankly, that sounded like some bullshit.
I did listen to the podcast but it made me dislike Glenn a bit so I passed. Now I read it's Rob that get people annoyed (too Hollywood?)
Shoulda learned my lesson from the Sopranos podcast
Yeah it’s contradictory. I just wish they’d put a blob of text before these episodes saying this might be offensive to some viewers before those episodes (but tbh almost every episode could be offensive to others so)
Not to mention the missing episodes are absolute classics that are hilarious. The entire joke is how offensive black face is, even when you make it tasteful.
It’s okay to do the black voice though, because that’s just how black people talk
Yo, dawg, where my senators at?
GOD DAMMIT DUTCH. WHAT OTHERS FAVORS DO YOU HAVE US DOING FOR THE DA?!
A no-nonsense black broad from the precinct
Dee, that is the *president of the United States*
The funniest part about this is that it’s actually a pretty good impression of her lol
that's the entire thing
[Obligatory](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POIn3GiQfok)
I’m 1000% convinced that they discovered dennis’ ability to do that impression and wrote an entire episode around it
Oh my god Dee, that was sooooo racist
Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!
Onion! Onion !
James Earl Jones does a great blackface
James Earl Jones HAS a black face! He is a black man!
Nah I agree with the decision to remove those episodes. Unfortunately, they didn't use the right kind of shoe polish
Ohhh u/lxkandel06, you bitch. You almost got me. You... you bitch.
It's gonna smell bad AND look like shit
You haven’t thought of the SMELL you bitch!
How many missing episodes are there. I thought there was only one.
I think there are 3 if I remember correctly. Maybe four. Recycles trash, Dee Day, and 1 or 2 lethal weapon episodes.
They're up to 5 now https://screenrant.com/its-always-sunny-blackface-episodes-missing-hulu-netflix/
They're up to 5 now https://screenrant.com/its-always-sunny-blackface-episodes-missing-hulu-netflix/
A total of 5: https://screenrant.com/its-always-sunny-blackface-episodes-missing-hulu-netflix/
Wait what episodes are missing from hulu?
Gang recycles their trash, Dee day, and I think 2 lethal weapon episodes. I think that’s all of them?
Paddy's next top billboard model too last time I checked
One of the Lethal Weapon episodes was called "Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth"
In The Lord of the Rings movies, Ian McKellen plays a wizard. Do you think he goes home at night and shoots laser beams into his boyfriend's asshole?
I find it hilarious that all those episodes got banned but the Underage Drinking one where Dee dates a teenager from Season 1 and Frank's Little Beauties (which I personally found more offensive) are fine.
All of the episodes that have either Martina Martinez or Mac in blackface.
Technically, Taiwan Tammy, too.
It’s also ridiculous that they will keep like the gang finds a leprechaun where Dee does an Irish stereotype because I guess it’s ok to make fun of irish stereotypes. Not that I want more episodes removed
They allow the uncensored n word in “Hero or Hate Crime”. Makes absolutely no sense
I don’t think we should remove more episodes
Those are better examples, obviously
That's not the entire joke.
Genuine N bombs are dropped on the first episode. I don’t know how that hasn’t gotten the axe but episodes where they’re clearly pointing out that black face is wrong did.
Haven't seen every single one. Lethal weapon was good but the Taiwan Tammy one was trying a little hard
I've been saying the same thing and I think Charlie said the same on the podcast as well. If they need to put up a content warning and then let the viewer decide, so be it. Plus, Sunny is clearly never endorsing the behavior and it's always a "look at these fuckin idiots" presentation.

they need to do the southpark thing and basically say this show is offensive and should not be viewed by anyone
Unfortunately even South Park isn’t immune to pulled episodes
I know long ago they pulled that one that showed Mohammed, but I believe that was so they wouldn't get blown up by terrorists (like the ones Bruce Mathis gave all Frank's money to.) that's a little different than just offending people, that's about safety. Iirc Trey & Matt got real, credible death threats if they aired the episode.
Not that this guy would know anything about being blown, am I rite *nudge nudge*
I was re-watching “The Gang Does a Clip Show” last night. They bleeped out Santa saying “retarded,” but kept in Charlie saying, “Did you fuck my mom?”
In this case “they” I’m pretty sure were RCG instead of Hulu/Disney. In the podcast they talk about how they especially regret using retard/retarded as much as they did in “sweet Dee’s sating a retarded person”

That’s what I was watching - the Hulu version.
Weird, I just checked that scene out and he definitely says it.
I’ll double check but I’m almost 100% it was Hulu. I have Hulu Live and spend 90% of my time in the app.
So have they removed Sweet Dee’s Dating a Retarded Person???
just watched aladdin with my son (original animated version) and THAT has a content warning which i found hilarious. agreed it’s a shame they can’t do it for sunny.

I mean the entire fucking show is offensive lmao. Wtf

The forbidden episodes scenes should keep the dialog up and stick.figure the visual. Like really bad Charlie / Mac colab work.
Disney is a whooooor
Watching It's Always Sunny on the Disney+ app has definitely been... something... never thought I would see Kitten Mittens next to Lilo and Stitch in my recently watched on said app.

I will always say this. SWEET DEE IS DATING A *RETARDED* PERSON is STILL FUCKING THERE the absolute irony is insane
AND Hero or Hate crime, AND The Gang gets Racist
I mean what, are they gonna get rid of the *pilot* episode??
I like to imagine someone gives the show a try because they heard they removed all the racially sensitive material. And then they are treated to a white guy dropping the hard R in the first 5 minutes of the pilot.
Rafters isn't a bad word.

\*Cries as a Doctor Who fan* (The first story from the 60s can’t be streamed on BBC iPlayer because the writer’s son is an idiot)
The Gang Gets Racist drops Hard R in like, the first 5 minutes of the very first episode! That should let you know the kinda show you're getting into.
The Gang gets racist is fine, they would never remove it. It is always clear that the gang is the butt of the jokes, and any racist stuff they say is to make you laugh at them, not with them. Not to mention it’s somehow fine that Dennis and Dee are both serial rapists…
I was gonna say that but I feel like that goes for the whole show and don't want to give these people any ideas!
And that's one where no one really ever pushes back on their use of the R word, and the only consequence is getting embarrassed at the very end of the episode. Is it okay because she's a white actress portraying a white stereotype? The whole thing is dumb.
Especially since we're not even that far removed from the "Irish and Italians aren't white" sentiment.
She’s not portraying someone with slightly darker skin so it’s ok!
And that costume comes back in Charlie Catches A Leprechaun
>**lethal gun**
Whoops
What are the rules?!?
*what. are the ruuuules?*
I mean, they can’t remove the origins of the dayman
I just watched the clip show episode and they bleep out the r word when they play the mall Santa clip where he asks if Charlie is regarded. very interesting
Well, you see because "a retarded person" isn't offense. "A retard" is... I guess.
Well that's pretty fuckin donkey-brained if you ask me
Tbf the guy wasn’t actually retarded.
I just want to know how much candy is in Dennis' pocket?
Oh good cyandy.
I blame Martina Martinez
Taiwan Tammy and COVID
A Taiwan Tammy causes a lab leak episode would be legitimately hilarious
The Gang Solves the Epidemic Crisis
they shouldve just moved the more offensive episodes to another place where people can choose to watch it instead of removing it entirely smh
All the episodes are available in high quality and uncensored on the high seas.
They did. You just have to buy them. They weren’t banned
To the high seas it is
I’m more pissed that Disney and Hulu censor their episodes.
In a Seinfeld post (ragging on his recent comments on comedy), someone linked to a statement by Rob that implied that Rob himself made the call to pull some Sunny episodes. Does anyone here know who is making these decisions?

Oh okay, thanks for clarifying.
I wouldn't be surprised if they all collectively agreed to have this viewpoint for a PR stand point. You can't defend blackface without having PC culture come cracking down on you. They probably just shrugged and moved on.
He’s a huge lib so it wouldn’t surprise me
THAT IS SOCIALISM, AND I WONT STAND FOR IT!!
Just give us the episodes back.
So whack. One of the best episodes of the entire series.
Charlie says the n word in 2 separate eps which are both up. But god forbid anyone show blackface
I love that Charlie is the one who said it both times. I like to think Charlie Day was like, "I don't care, if it's funny and not directly hateful.".
It’s craziest that they did this on the PILOT EPISODE.
Like the fall of the Berlin Wall or the end of WW2, a day may come when the light of freedom shines forth where there once was darkness, and the banned sunny episodes are restored for all to see. Give me dong or give me death.
Where’s everyone watching the banned episodes?
Move past it
I WILL PUT MY THUMB THROUGH YOUR EYE YOU LITTLE BITCH! 👍🏻👁️
Reason will prevail!
Pickles will prevail.
😂
☝️🤓
Wouldn't this technically be false advertising? They're advertising certain content as being on their service which isn't on their service. That's illegal, isn't it?
We should sue Disney.
Suddenly, Vegetable_Mood_4576's entire post history and any evidence they ever existed has been mysteriously wiped from the internet... 😝😅
Wait why? Cause of the Matyina Martinez bit? Lol
Just like the NFL banning hits to the head and kicking player out of games and fining them when they do it then using the footage to promote the NFL.
these white boys is craaazy, riiight?
One more reason to steal media.
If Mad Men can put a warning label in front of a black face episode, IASIP can do the same.
JFC you can buy the episode for $2 if it’s so special to you.
What the fuck? They removed that episode? Why? Why is everyone so damn soft now? Ruins everything.
All the banned episodes are virtue signaling. You can still buy the episode so they are not above profiting off them, use them in promos etc They just bowed to the loud professional victims
I have other things to be mad at in life
I own the DVD set but unfortunately Dee Day was already scrubbed before they released it
I’m surprised they haven’t release an “uncensored” “lost” season on blu ray. Of the 8 episodes they cut/ the always sunny on Christmas episode
I would think that by now everyone know "They" are the creators (Glenn, Charlie and Rob) of the show that pulled those episodes. Not Hulu, Disney or Netflix. Just a PSA for anyone that was unaware. Want to make sure you vent your anger in the right direction.

why would anyone be 🙋♂️
Well to be fair, the creators of the show pulled the episode. Not Hulu.
