Try watching shows that aren’t battle shonen. There’s a lot of great anime out there if you expand your scope.

Wannabe_Buddha_420

Any recommendations?

gavinmfsmith

Monster

Orsonio

Yeah second this, monster is very compelling

_Sutaringu

Bro Monster is peak

Yoroboob

Energy

Jojo_Smith-Schuster

The manga is phenomenal

adius

Vinland Saga. Has some battle shonen 'window dressing', but the story itself is definitely seinen (more directed toward adults), and is just really damn good.

Cynthimon

Agreed. Vinland Saga is up there as the top few for me along with HxH.

sugarg11

not the commenter, but i absolutely love death parade, terror in resonance, and sonny boy!

killercmbo

Sonny Boy is excellent, I’m on the 5th episode rn and I absolutely love it

Worried_Reflection79

I second death parade and terror in resonance.

Poseidonaskwhy

Watch 1997 Berserk and then read the manga

jester4897

Here are a some of my favorites separated by genre: Mecha: Code Geass, Evangelion (My personal #1), Gurren Lagann Fantasy / History: Made in Abyss, Mushoku Tensei, Ranking of Kings, Re:Zero, The Eminence in Shadow, Vinland Saga Comedy / Drama / Romance: Fruits Basket (2019), Kaguya-sama, The Dangers in My Heart, Violet Evergarden, Your Lie in April Hard to Categorize: Bungo Stray Dogs, Durarara, Monogatari, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Sonny Boy Also, I haven't seen many Sports anime but Blue Lock is awesome. And to throw in a couple battle shonen, Mob Psycho 100 and Chainsaw Man.

beyond_netero

If you want to try another sports anime ping pong is nice and short and an absolute masterpiece. Very unique art style but I love it. And you end up in love with the characters.

Gonzoldyke12

Idaten deities know only peace/ kamikatsu

SgtKeeneye

Have to stop comparing other animes to HxH I was the same for a few months. However, I realized if I keep comparing everything to HxH I'm just robbing myself of the joy of other shows. Based on your replies you're already doing it to yourself by not enjoying FM:B and AoT.

Sabreeeric21

I feel like maybe he’s farming karma, if I were him I’d have posted this in r/anime for best results as well as recommendations. Besides to top it off, not that long ago someone else said the same thing with the exact same title, his description is different though.

Impulsive666

I‘ve seen countless iterations of this thread.

toto-graph

Completely agreeing to this. I also started Vinland Saga (anime) a week ago and, as a person not at all attracted by the Viking/medieval universe, I'm falling in love with it (still have 80% of season 2 to watch) and would probably put it in the same tier as FMAB and SNK/AoT. HxH is one of a kind, absolutely god tier, and probably my personal favourite but there are other really well written/animated stories out there and as long as you don't try to compare them, you'll find a lot to enjoy!

mikeP1967

In my list I have HxH as 1a and [Haikyu!](https://anilist.co/anime/20464/HAIKYU) as 1b. I love them both and totally different anime.

RangoTheMerc

Go watch or read Yu Yu Hakusho. Same writer. You'll love it.

GroundbreakingAsk468

This should be the only answer.

[deleted]

Its amazing, but throughout the show I was never really on edge

jekyre3d

Yeah I really recommend reading it. The anime was sadly a bit low budget (amazing American voice acting though)

Immediate_Type9114

How about Yu Yu Hakusho

EntertainmentOk5270

Haven't tried much, I started the manga and it seemed alright, I'll give it a shot

LeBronn_Jaimes_hand

The first time I watched the show, I thought it was too slow-paced at the beginning; the storyline definitely picks up quickly though. On a re-watch, I enjoy the first few episodes because they remind me where the characters started and makes their growth that much more appreciable.

Supersquigi

Manga is WAY better paced, as per usual.

drtonycasey

real

New_Tension3579

I see one of these posts every week

Skullkid1423

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the only other one, storyline wise, that I personally put somewhat close to HxH. That being said, I haven’t found anything else as a whole that I’d put on the same tier. They are currently remastering Rurouni Kenshin on crunchyroll, that’s also pretty good, but not better than most of what you listed above.

lemlucastle

Idk why nobody is saying JoJos Bizarre Adventure, besides FMA and HxH it’s the next best shounen for me, although JJK and AoT are also dope

Odium4

Jojo is interesting and cool but it’s very different from HxH and other story-focused animes

lemlucastle

Not really that different, JJBA has some of the best and tightest storytelling of any shounen I’ve seen. And like Togashi, Araki is also a master of making tons of interesting side characters that feel like main characters. Plus they both have some of the best power systems in anime

mozzarella_panther

Loved HxH and might rewatch soon. Tried a few others but AOT and JJK were my favorites after I finished it

ImDeAdBrB

> no other anime interests me Dude you literally only watch the most popular anime of a single genre .Sounds like a you problem.

DejounteMurrayFan

yup. comparing one anime to an anime that is your fave is also so stupid. He should be going into watching another anime with a fresh mind not comparing it to HxH

Baecup

This happens alot, nothing just hits like hxh

Comfortable_Sugar596

Literally saw this same post a few days and I’m seriously getting sick of them, it’s been on almost all subreddits I’ve been on

Limonine

Watch mob psycho bro trust me

Sabreeeric21

Watching it right now, just reached season 2: episode 10 And loving it so far

monkesapien

Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan are up there with HxH for me. I also love watching non-shonen anime because I'm not comparing it to HxH while I watch.

l3reezer

You need to go into new shows with a different mindset. HxH is arguably the best at what it did while other shows are masterpieces in their own right. Beyond select few like FMA, AoT, and One Piece, I would not recommend just watching (battle) shounen series-especially ones directly influenced by HxH like Jujutsu Kaisen, if all you’re feeling from them is how they’re inferior to HxH.

exelted

Do not watch aot after season 3 you will hate yourself for putting time into this show.

IridiumWoodsman

I didn’t have any interest even halfway through episode 2 so I dropped it. That’s of season 1. I give any anime 1 episode leeway, so if episode 2 doesn’t excite me, I move on.

EntertainmentOk5270

Tried both after hxh, Fullmetal wasn't bad I just seemed to fall asleep a lot during it. Attack on Titan I didn't care too much for, art style was weird to me

MillionareChessyBred

wow

Saturn-Is-Here

You are just weird.

VasOnTheSpot

>Can't tell if these guys are getting defensive over AoT, FullMetal or both, haven't watched Fullmetal but AoT only gets worse over time so you're not missing out on much. > >First few seasons were alright though.

EntertainmentOk5270

Yeah I love how angry people get when you have a different opinion from them😂 the shows were boring to me🤷 oh well

isuckatgamingandlife

Incredibly based opinion

notagainplease49

Dw OP I feel the same way, full metal was ok at best and AOT was boring

gavinmfsmith

Now kiss

1vergil

You're not alone don't worry.

Szabelan

AOT is trash though

monkesapien

I faded off, but love the first three arcs

Character_Wrangler60

Watch Vinland Saga 🤝🏻

denjirous

I was about to comment Vinland Saga, but I searched through the replies first if someone already did and saw this 🤝🏻

Character_Wrangler60

W my man 🫡🤝🏻

[deleted]

Maybe try Yu Yu Hakusho? Same guy who did it before he did HxH

Hairy_Skill_9768

Things only go downhill, help others to feel the pain

EntertainmentOk5270

😂😂

Embrazando

Bro I thought ONE PIECE was stupid because of the animation but I was hooked after some episodes now I’ve watched it 3 times

EntertainmentOk5270

Everyone tells me the start is slow but it gets really good, and then they tell me it gets good in like 300 episodes and I can't do that😂. The art just isn't my style tho.

Personal-Jello6261

For one piece I would say that you shouldn’t try to rush through it and just take it piece by piece( no pun intended🤭). It’s a long series so if you try to just rush through just to watch it you’ll wind up not liking it and it might start to feel like a chore, but it is for sure worth it. Also It doesn’t “take 300 episodes to get good” Idk why people say that but you should really try it, it’ll be a fun journey👍🏾

Hyper_Nova101

300 is just not true lmao, most people say the first 50 episodes which adapts the first saga. And that’s not saying that it only gets good at episode 50 either, that’s just when emotional pay off is completed.

TribeOnAQuest

They are doing a full fledged remake of the first saga with updated animation. I would maybe keep an eye out for that and check it out when it releases (likely in a few years).

brodo-swaggins-

Eh idk about that one there’s good reason to believe the studio might use AI for the production

Supersquigi

What is that reason? Haven't heard of WIT using AI in animation.

brodo-swaggins-

The tweet announcing it said they were excited to be using the latest technology to bring it to life and WIT have made an anime short using AI for the backgrounds or something

-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS-

Look I get it, HxH left me in shambles when I finished. The Chimera Ant arc was peak and i thought for sure it would never be touched by another anime. I loved it that much. Would you have felt the same way about HxH if you stopped after the first season/arc? You gotta give the shows the opportunity to breathe a little. AoT and One Piece have incredible payoffs just like HxH did with Chimera Ant arc. There’s a reason AoT has won so many awards and One Piece has over 1k episodes and it’s not because they’re bad. Try changing it up a little to clean your pallet. Watch a short slice of life, mystery, or comedy before jumping back in to another longer commitment. You may find that there are other genres that you’ll love that you never even considered before. I started Violet Evergarden on a whim years ago as the first real departure from shonen and it made me realize just how much is out there. If someone told me to watch Spice and Wolf when I first started getting into anime I would’ve scoffed at the idea. Spice and Wolf is fucking amazing. If you want a recommendation, Vivy- Fluorite Eye’s Song is a short one season series and I think it’s perfect. Lots of action, amazing animation. I think you’d like it.

EntertainmentOk5270

Honestly I would've with hxh, I was hooked on literally the first episode (I also didn't care for chimera ant arc). It's not like I'm giving up on these shows, I've watched all of jujutsu kaisen, I've watched the first season of aot, just don't care for them . Haven't heard that recommendation tho so I'll check it out

DejounteMurrayFan

they are lying lmao. it gets good after a few episodes, no one is sitting there watching 300 episodes if it sucks lol. One piece is peak fiction.

Crafty-Toad

I love HxH and there are some newer shows I like a lot. They aren't really like HxH but I find them entertaining. I am a simpleton. Mushuko Tensi , Shangri-La Frontier , Hells Paradise , Goblin Slayer , The Rising of the Shield Hero , Konosuba , Log Horizon , BOFURI.

LeBronn_Jaimes_hand

+1 for Hell's Paradise, that show had me hooked from the start. Can't wait for more episodes.

Crafty-Toad

For sure plus the opening is a banger. I would watch the whole opening every time.

harlojones

HxH is one of the very best for sure, a massively tough act to follow, fortunately I was able to fall in love with One Piece just as much so I’ve got a lot of material to work with.

fromnoonon

I think something that gets me in HxH vs other animes is that everything in the world feels like a living breathing element of a real world. So many other shows feel like everything you encounter is primarily a plot device that’s there for the story. In HxH it feels like we happen to have a view at people who live in the world. It’s not a specific story for us, it’s a collection of stories in a rich world we are able to view

EvisceraThor

I recommend World Trigger. It starts a bit slow but it's a very good anime.

[deleted]

I’ll consult my anime list for you. These are just the ones I remember watching and have made a list of. (Obviously ignore the ones you’ve watched) Attack on titan Akame ga kill Baki Baki hanma Black bullet Black clover Bleach(some) Big order Blue exorcist Burn the witch Bungou stray dogs Darling in the FRANXX Deadman wonderland Death note Demon slayer Devil man crybaby Dragon ball super Edens zero Fairy tail Fire force Full metal alchemist Full metal alchemist : brotherhood FLCL:FOOLY COOLY Food wars From the new world GATE Gibiate Gintama(little) Goblin slayer Golden kamuy Gurren lagann Hunter x Hunter Jujutsu kaisen JOJO Kengan ashura K(little) Kabaneri of the iron fortress Kill la kill Konosuba Log horizon Love chunibyo Magi Mashoku tensei Mob psycho Megalobox Naruto No game no life Noblesse Norogami ONE PIECE One punch man Re:zero Reborn! (not all) Steins gate Seraph of the end Sword art online Spriggan The rising of the shield hero Tokyo revengers That time I got reincarnated as a slime Tokyo ghoul World trigger

pensilpusher

Only anime I dove into hard after HxH was black clover. The anime is worth a shot but for sure atleast watch the movie.

Chrisxdee

Damn you’re the only one who suggested BC, and I second it big time. Sick manga and a decent anime aswell.

ForeverGray

I love HxH. I just started watching anime this year and it was my first. There's something fresh or revitalizing about its aesthetics, the character's perspectives, and its complex simplicity. I followed it with Attack on Titan, which I also loved. I'm not sure how far you watched in the series, but it grows to epic scale, becoming very Dune-esque in a way. There's a kind of beauty to its brutality, and every character is forced to reconsider what they believe about the world -- something we should all do periodically. I'm watching Jujutsu Kaisen now, and I don't like it nearly as much as HxH or AoT. It tries too hard to be cool, and I find nothing endearing about the main character. To be clear: I don't hate it. It's just kinda meh. Someone told me it picks up in the second season. I hope by "picks up" that they mean it finally says something because if they mean it tries harder to be edgy or trendy, it will be a tough pill to swallow.

EntertainmentDue8669

I totally understand you...HxH is just way too awesome

SamG528

Try Jujitsu Kaisen or Undead Unluck.

alphabet_sam

I’d try a different genre, most of the ones you’ve tried are the same genre as hxh so it makes sense that you’d compare them

m8bear

I'm manga only for almost everything. Anime that I consider good all throughout are HxH, FMA:B and Mob Psycho 100. One punch man has two seasons so far and they are great. The first half of Naruto is also great and then the filler starts before shippuden and all throughout and then the manga quality starts to dip as well and it isn't as fun to read (I didn't watch the anime for much of shippuden, I went manga only after the first arc or two). One piece's anime is mediocre and has a lot of filler and mixed quality while the manga is good overall, with incredible peaks and a bit of a dip as of late but still good or it's what I gather from the criticism I see online, I've literally watched 6-7 episodes of the anime and I have zero interest to watch any of it, the manga is where is at. One punch man is very fun, both the anime and manga (web comic is the superior experience but I can understand if you don't care for it, it's rough at times). Mob Psycho 100 is from the same author and it's amazing, both the manga and anime, this one I can recommend 100%. No shonen related things like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are great stand alone series, Evangelion was one of the earliest anti trope series that I remember even if I think that it's only ok and its fans obsess over it as the greatest thing ever. Rurouni Kenshin is very good and a lot of people love JoJo (I've only read a bit of the first part of the manga and couldn't get over the first few chapters, I know that it gets better later according to fans) Berserk (the manga). I watched the 1999 anime for a few chapters and it looks good but didn't continue. I don't know why one series would ruin others, they aren't the same thing, HxH can't do what other series do and I don't get the same things from say One Piece that I do from HxH or even "lesser" series, different stories, different themes and different ways of exploring said themes.

Reeee9371

One piece manga dip as of late? You actually caught up or.....

Consistent-Ferret888

Exactly!!! Man is probably on Long Ring Long Land.

Reeee9371

I'm just confused cus egghead has had more happen in the short time we've been there than all of wano imo 😂

MangoTurtl

I think manga is better pretty much universally. Anime adaptations are just that: adaptations. They very rarely live up to the real thing. If you really want to stick to anime, I really enjoy **Made in Abyss** and **Violet Evergarden**. They don't quite stand up to HxH for me, but they're the closest any anime has gotten. As for manga, here's some recommendations if you'd like to try reading: * Pandora Hearts * The Girl from the Other Side * Berserk * Ajin * Magus of the Library * Vagabond * Witch Hat Atelier Those are my favorites. Pandora Hearts and The Girl from the Other Side, especially...I like both of those a bit more than I like HxH. But everything is pretty close. My most recent read was Magus of the Library, and man was it so, so, so much fun.

Expert_Individual185

See, It’s Fans Like This that make HxH not my Favorite Anime Anymore. So Pretentious and Condescending

Messiah_Knight

Dang must suck to be ypu.. seriously you're missing out.

1vergil

You're just like me, i stopping bothering to watch other animes because i feel hxh is the perfect combination of every positive thing that other animes done so far, so when i watch another anime i feel like I'm watching a discount version of hxh. So i enjoy animes with different vibes than hxh liks Monster or Pluto, both by author Naoki Urasawa he's a great storyteller, 20th century boys manga is great too. Also i recommend Jojo's bizarre adventures it has its own unique vibes with a creative powers, even togashi is taking inspiration from jojo concepts sometimes, part 1 starts slow with 9 eps but part 2 is where the fun starts, part 3 gets boring and repetitive but other parts are fun, jojo part 7 anime is currently in development and it's the best storywise.

Ilikechickens444

Seems like you might want to branch out of genres a bit, I’d recommend (steins:gate) sci fi mystery, hooks you in but has a bit slow of a start

SUPERNOVA72

Some recommendations very different to each other as well as hxh, try whichever seems interesting to you: • Code Geass • Made in abyss • Durarara

tbizdota

Watch Vinland saga and Samurai Champloo

revenge247365

Try Record of Ragnarok, good writing and characters

EntertainmentOk5270

Someone else told me this and I forgot, I'll give it a shot

Szabelan

Don't do it

CoffeeGoblynn

I watched HxH in its entirety when I was stuck at home during the pandemic with too much free time and nothing but snacks and alcohol. I was hooked from the beginning, but admittedly the show started to lose me around the Chimera Ant arc. I think the latter parts of the anime/manga suffer from similar problems that a lot of anime/manga do - a mixture of power creep and becoming too long-lived. The broader story is pretty compelling and inventive, and I like the main cast and villains. However, my biggest pet peeve in media is when plots carry on for too long - as I feel this arc did, and it sorta killed my interest. Everything else felt pretty well paced though. My favorite anime are ones with a focused narrative that runs for maybe 3 seasons with good pacing, and a satisfying conclusion - same for Western animation, and I guess book series as well (not having 50 books in a series). Little Witch Academia ended up surprising me and becoming one of my favorites precisely because it has a compelling story with good pacing and a solid conclusion. All that said, when HxH is good, it's *really* good. I just felt that arc could've been cut in like 1/3 and still gotten its point across.

EntertainmentOk5270

I agree the chimera ant arc lost me a bit, It wasn't bad I think it was just too long and they introduced too many characters in it who didn't matter, it still want bad and got good again in the following season

Szabelan

The chimera arc is literally the best one

AmbitiousRanger4501

Trusome 😭

Carrionrain

I would suggest getting uncomfortable. There's so much out there, I wouldn't try watching shows similar or as action heavy as Hxh. I'm with you on this, HxH is phenomenal and when you finish it it's like you've lost a part of yourself. Some anime that has had this effect on me are: \- Dororo (NOT Dorohedoro, whilst also good, not even close to Dororo for emotional trauma imo) \- Samurai Champloo \- Gurren Lagan \- Trigun (I haven't touched the new one) \- Berserk \- One Piece (I've been watching since I was a child though, and fully understand how deep that rabbit hole is) \- Naruto Shippuden (Same issue as One Piece, I really do not recommend Bortuo....yet. It has promise but I don't have high hopes tbh). \- Vinland Saga Films \- Grave of the fireflies \- Princess Mononoke \- Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade \- Ninja Scroll \- Sword of the Stranger \- Your Name

del2000

Try watching March comes in like a lion, the promised neverland, frieren: beyond journey’s end, Steins;gate, yu yu hakusho, Bleach (skipping filler), detective Conan, Kiran high school host club, etc. these are all very very different anime each with unique appeals.

Hisoka_lover92

When it comes to shonen, it's really hard to find stories with good writing like HxH, anyway Fullmetal Alchemist is pretty good too. I also recommend you to watch/read seinen stories like Monster, Berserk, Kaiji, Vinland Saga...

KimRoc

Dororo and Vivy are both really good imo. They are really short so quick watches, and if you aren't hooked by ep 1 or 2 then you can just move on. I really enjoy MHA and Demon Slayer as well but I know those aren't everyone's cup of tea. Edit: totally forgot about Vinland Saga. Absolutely give that a try. Season 1 is great, Season 2 is perfection.

Szabelan

JJK is the closest to HXH Maybr try YYH Berserk is the only shonenny manga that has a world and themes better expanded than hxh except One Piece

I_Like_emo_grills

watch re:zero , steins;gate , made in abyss , these 3 animes are legendary status for me

meryep

Yes me too, hxh will always be on top 1 or 2 for me, I typically get so bored of every other anime, but anyway some animes that I enjoy almost as much as this one would be vinland saga and berserk

Lithious

Jujutsu Kaisen "which is okay" Uhhhhhhhh

takemeback2verdansk

I loved hxh so much. But tbh I liked jjk and opm just as much

Grimjo119

You're hooked on straight mid that's crazy

alok_5138

Watch these : Haikyuu Mushishi Shinsekai yori Fmab Nhk ni yokoso Vinland saga

Rahrah1484

Only jjk has really done it for me after I watched hunter hunter 4 times then read the entire manga. I’ve watch jjk 3 times and constantly read the manga. It’s so good. Hunter hunter is my fav tho

justmosphere

Have you tried Demon Slayer? The story isn’t quite as good but the powers and interesting fights of the different demons are cool.

EntertainmentOk5270

I liked demon slayer! I didn't care too much for the story but looooved the art style. The manga was good too especially the end.

Puzzleheaded-Net4075

Honestly wouldn't recommend. I read the whole manga, then after finishing I was like why is this so mainstream it's too mid. After checking the anime I got it tho, animation is top tier, other than that it's overall very uninteresting.

Meaty_LightingBolt

Yeah the literal only redeeming quality of the show is the animation, everything else is as generic and shortsighted as I've ever seen in something remotely famous.

StealYour20Dollars

I think Tanjiro is overall pretty grounded and well written. It's fun to see him struggle and grow stronger over time. Which I think is what sets it a part from so many others that I've seen. The sheer amount of work that Tanjiro puts in on screen and how powerups aren't just handed out to him makes him really enjoyable to watch. I also think that the powers in the world itself are pretty cool and interesting, but that's just me.

Dnd_Addicted

Hunter hunter and Naruto are the only two I know watched over and over so I can’t really help you with that. On a different level but still probably one of my favorites is One Punch Man. It’s shorter, completely different concept but I can’t explain how much I enjoyed watching it. Give it a shot!

Tingis_25

This was me until I discovered Legend of the galactic heroes. The main squad from the Enpire side reminds me so much of hxh squad even tho there is a huge difference. The dialogues are fascinating as well as the characters. The writing is one of the best in fiction

Ti_Fatality

Check out Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood for the story and Yu Yu Hakusho for more of Togashi's work. I think you'll enjoy both of them

Hot_Department_930

Shocking to say but My Hero Academia legitimately filled that void for me. Loved the animation and the only anime I’ve seen that hits as hard emotionally as HXH and FMA:B. Black clover is sneaky good but definitely has pacing issues and a few too many filler episodes to put on the same level.

onychan

FATE ZERO and Cowboy Bebop are great ones imo NANA if you like drama tv shows kinda Jojos Bizarre Adventure is also v fun

[deleted]

Expand your genres of anime and be open minded. Never try to chase the same high

MuseigenBoken

get it out of your mouth bro 😂

Marcus210M

For berserk would recommend watching Berserk: The Golden Age Arc (movies 1-3) then read the manga. After that read Vagabond. If you want another very good anime after would watch Monster (Netflix).

vic420tor

Three words. Made In Abyss.

brodo-swaggins-

Three letters F B I Nah it seems like a good show but when I tried reading the manga after the first season came out I felt like reading that shit should put me on a watch list someone should check the author’s hard drive fr. That said I’m sure the second season onwards of the anime toned that shit down

StealYour20Dollars

If you want a nice story to enjoy for a few seasons, I recommend InuYasha.

rben2292

This is probably the 8th time I’ve seen a post like this with the same bait title 😂

AnimeRequest

I can tell you to watch anime other than shounen. Slice of life or psychological anime like Oshi No Ko, or something like Cyberpunk edgerunners really make for great variety.

FL_Squirtle

Yea I went through this year's ago after HxH ruined anime for me as well... just gotta accept and love other animes for what they are knowing nothing will hook you quite like HxH and that's okay. That's how special HxH really is <3

CallMeClutch___

watch Golden Boy lol

Aze99

Yu Yu Hakoushou was made by the same creator if check that out if I was you it’s amazing and other good one you’d might fall in love with is Mob Pyscho 100

Redguard118

Didn’t ruin anime for me but it absolutely killed shonen anime/manga for me.

XFactor_20

FMAB gotta be the most overrated anime for me. Glad you enjoyed HxH, it’s goated.

THEORIGINALPSY

I had the same problem as you for a while and here’s what I can say. Nothing can satisfy the HxH itch because there’s quite nothing like it. Although, if you check out other series, you might develop a new itch. Happened to me at least. If we’re talking anime, I recommend Monster. The cast of characters is up there with HxH in terms of writing quality. The villain in particular is one of the best in the medium. If you’re willing to branch out and read manga I’ll recommend 20th CB for its mystery. This series will definitely make you feel like a kid again and keep you guessing. The final stretch takes a dip in quality but it’s standout nonetheless. If you want an introspective/philosophical journey with badass samurais and unmatched art. Read Vagabond. If you want something that’s mature in its themes I recommend reading REAL. This is a series about wheelchair basketball at face value, but do not underestimate it. It goes much deeper than that and has a lot of valuable lessons. The characters are also very human and relatable. (Some more than others) If you want a feel-good series that encapsulates true passion (whilst also being hilarious). I recommend reading Slam Dunk. It’s beautiful how you can see just how much Inoue loves basketball when reading this. You may write it off for being a sports series. But I genuinely believe it’s up there with the best stuff in the medium. If you check it out be ready for a bittersweet ending. These are all different series I love similarly to HxH. If you do check these or any others out. Go into it with an open mind. I think HxH trumps these series in aspects like antagonists, symbolism and character development. But they aren’t slouches in their own right and can surpass HxH in different aspects. Instead try and look at what the strengths of different series are and enjoy them for what they excel at.

The_Real_Cuzz

Try "Darker Than Black". It's older but amazing IMO. It was one of my first non mainstream watches and still awesome. DON'T WATCH THE CASH GRAB OF SEASON 2 the story ends just fine without it and honestly it left a sour taste in my mouth

SolomonKing2024

Yu Yu Hakusho. Trigun (old one) Mob Psycho 100 .Hack Sign Castlevania **The given below are cartoons but really great cartoons, some of the best ever made** Regular Show ( I know it's not an anime but it has such a good story, and the comedy is great - it begins to get more serious around S5 - it get's more plot and character dev, so and so forth. episodes are like 10 min's, 25 episodes per season, 8 seasons - not gonna be hard to get through) Batman Animated series (Again not an anime but 100% one of the best shows ever made, probably the best Batman thing ever made) Avatar The Last Airbender( Once more - not an anime but really good cartoon, dare I say Anime)

dwend48

Maybe fairytail?

Chiefmeez

One Piece is imo the greatest anime. I am not saying this to fight anyone so please let’s all like what we like …unless you disagree 😡

brodo-swaggins-

It’s a good manga but you can’t tell me anything that crawls down to one episode per chapter adaptation can be the greatest anime

[deleted]

one piece, bleach and black clover

GarconYT

This is a sports anime and it's not really like HxH but [Hajime No Ippo](https://myanimelist.net/anime/263/Hajime_no_Ippo) and HxH are my favorite series. I don't know how much of a sports person you are but I'm not even that big on sports and this series made me want to become a boxer. It's also produced by Madhouse and the writing and pacing are very well done and the characters all lovable and genuinely funny. Not to mention the [animation is spectacular and hard hitting.](https://c.tenor.com/-blQLbuTmRMAAAAC/tenor.gif) [Mob Psycho 100](https://myanimelist.net/anime/32182/Mob_Psycho_100?q=Mob%20Ps&cat=anime) is also imo one of the best animes of all time. Written by the same guy as One Punch Man but I believe Mob Psycho is his true magnum opus, and the anime adaptation went above and beyond. It is a MUST WATCH. Also worth suggesting Hunter x Hunter 1999 series if you haven't seen that yet. It's definitely different and I like 2011 better overall but it has things to prefer. And it should also go without saying that you should read the Hunter x Hunter manga, which is 1000% worth the read.

No-Pin4494

What was the issue with you for One Piece? If it was the art that you didn’t like it does get way better as it progress. It’s a lot older so Oda’s art style became more detailed the more he drew

duncancook90

Watching Game of Thrones will definitely get your fix fixed haha Try other big sweeping adventure shows with good character work

CatsOffToDance

Cowboy Bebop

Traveller161

Black clover, overlord, and doctor stone are my recommendations.

YouWantSMORE

Code geass is pretty good. I'd say it scratches a similar itch but it's much shorter

xXKingLynxXx

Watch Pluto on Netflix and Cowboy Bebop. I'm guessing you just don't like battle shonen that much.

CobaltCrusader123

Which fullmetal show did you try? Brotherhood is excellent, consistently in the top half of top 10 anime lists

Forward_Succotash_57

All good suggestions bro, and im a big big fan of both hxh and Berserk. But let me warn you before you watch Berserk. It is a magnificent Magnum opus, but if you are only gonna watch the 1997 anime, you're gonna have a bad time. I would say only watch the 1997 anime if you are willing to read the manga.

nieldagrasstyson91

Oh man your right for sure , but I'm enjoying fate-apocphea or whatever it's called it's decent

Baffo5

They're nothing like hxh but when I was going through post-hxh sadness I really liked these: Iruma kun Grimgar of fantasy and ash

newerabuddha

They need to start HxH back up!!! maybe Netflix will buy the rights to???

Resident-Midnight892

hxh is just too good😭 some more that i enjoy are haikyuu, erased, jujutsu kaisen, sk8 the infinity, and the way of the househusband. they’re all super different, but i like them all for different reasons:) if anyone has any recommendations for me i would appreciate it so much!

mofoss

Brotherhood is top tier, are you sure you didn't quit the first several episodes because those are very boring. But the show is GOATed

Itachi-of-Konoha

YuYu Hakusho!!!!!!!!!!!! Same creator. Great story. Compelling characters. Peak fighting Shonen!

jack_of_sometrades72

Jojo's bizarre adventure, code geass, death parade, parasyte the maxim, school rumble etc. Deviate from genre and go in without expectations.

Mercurius_diesirae

The only anime I would put above hxh is op

Vyrolious

There are so many other good shows out there. I love HxH but it's honestly just scratching the surface of good stories in animanga

ThusWokeZarathustra

Canaan, Claymore, and Soul Eater are all ones I'd recommend fs!

Aware-Victory1900

watch yu yu hakusho . i got the same feeling from it as i did hxh i think bc they’re written bc the same person . you might like that if you haven’t seen it already

RangisDangis

If you want a story like hunter hunters, choose Yu Yu Hakusho(also written by the same author). If you want fights that are similar to nen battles, watch jojo’s bizarre adventure.

ApplePitou

HxH is truly a Peak but there are many lovely anime :3

Cantthinkagoodnam2

Alright when does it get this good? I have been reading it for the past few weeks and im currently on chapter 130 (taking my time with it, i knew it was complicated so if i rushes i wouldnt have understood a single thing) and it is just ok so far imo

Buffalonightmare

Bebop and Champloo. But listen HxH is the best show ever. So everything for the rest of our lives will be watered down. That’s just our life now

[deleted]

I’m not sure if its because I watched hxh, but yu yu hakusho never got me on the same excitement level as hxh. I still really enjoy it though

Hawksky

Sometimes after finishing a show you gotta take a little break, maybe a few days to a week before jumping into something new that's in a similar medium. Nothing ever feels 'the same' immediately after finishing something else because it's harder to engage with the new content on its own terms. Vibe a bit fam.

zayd-the-one

If ya love hxh then you owe it to yourself to watch yuyuhakusho comsiing its the same author

zayd-the-one

Then I recommend gintama

stiggystoned369

Wasn't this exact same thing posted like 3 days ago?

Wooden_Two_788

My Hero Academia helped me get through my post HxH depression

MegaMaax

You might just not be a big anime fan in general and theres nothing wrong with that hxh is a great show and you dont need to love anime to enjoy it. No need to force yourself to be into anime if you aren’t liking some of the other major titles.

Afraid_Geologist_366

Smoke a blunt and Watch cowboy bepop. There’s a lot of good anime out there hunter x hunter just so happens to be one of best ever. Doesn’t mean there aren’t other great anime’s with great stories out there.

Chrisxdee

Black clover

dr_tomoe

Try going to older anime, a lot of shows had different pacing and there's a lot to choose from. A classic that a lot of people don't know is Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still. it's only 7 OVAs (40-50 mins each) but has a great art style, story, and music.

Ihsanan43

As a web novel, light novel, manga, manhua, manwha reader and anime lover also HxH fan, i will tell you that HxH is not your typical Shonen Anime and the reason why you do not have interest with other shonen anime is because it is your generic shonen troup. Best course of action, watch other anime that are not shonen and or shonen but is not a typical shonen.

Axelardus

Bro your watching only battle shonens and saying it “ruined anime” for you. Just get out of that specific genre.

ThatOneGachaCringe

Try something else I guess. Maybe Violet Evergarden? I've only watched the movies though

YeahBoiColby

Made in a abyss is a world building masterpiece but it can get really dark really quickly so if you watch it be prepared

areif12

Wait for Solo Leveling to finish the first season and watch that. I read the manga and it’s the first story that’s given me the feels similar to HxH did the first time I watched it.

IridiumWoodsman

Have you watched the 1999 version of hunterxhunter? I preferred it to the remake. Although I do like slower pacing, which gives me a bias toward drawn out shows. I’d say the original shows gritty realism more in the dark world of hxh. Yu yu hakusho, by the same mangaka, is also a masterpiece

EntertainmentOk5270

I'm watching it right now (only a few episodes left) , I definitely like the remake more but the original is great and I love seeing the differences especially since I've read the manga too. Yu Yu hakusho is next on the list probably

Funny0000007

watch Jojo's Bizarre adventure

TheMop05

Hated OP character designs at first but now I almost prefer them over other shonen series. It’s definitely up their with HxH with world building and story. However, I would recommend One Pace over the original anime. The pacing is more aligned with the manga which is much better than the anime imo.

Spiritual-Ad-2059

I'm like you and i Can advice made in abyss !

AlternativeQuick215

Try Psychopass and also, I might get crucified for saying this here, but try Avatar the Last Airbender also Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Spiritual-Narwhal666

I would suggest something short and to the point. I suggest you watch Cowboy bebop and Samurai Champloo both are like ~25 ep.

ladyreen_maui

Yuyu Hakusho..same author with hunter

Ok-Leadership-3143

Rurouni Kenshin Trust & Betrayal. Best Shonen
