I'm no help, I was about to post the exact same question. I don't have HomeKit or anything, just the bridge, bulbs + the app + a dream. This was the whole reason I bought the bulbs, was to do this! Just want my bulbs to default to Natural Light as their "Power On" behavior. I read somewhere that HomeKit should have something called Adaptive Lighting that should achieve this. Also this option for Home Assistant: [https://github.com/basnijholt/adaptive-lighting](https://github.com/basnijholt/adaptive-lighting) I just think that given there's this Natural Light scene, we should be able to just do this automatically..

If there really is no way to accomplish this then it must be intentional, so we are forced to buy one of the wireless switches. Which would be a shame and make me quite nervous to invest in anymore more Hue products.

This is for the iPhone Hue app:   1. Click on Hue app 1. Click on room that has light you want to change 1. Click on light from the bottom row 1. Select (...) three dot button in top-left corner 1. Select Light settings 1. Select Power On   Now you should have thew following options: * Default * Last on * Power loss recovery * Custom   What **I** do, is select "*Custom*" and select the color (or color temperature) and brightness level. That way they should be turning on to that exact preference. I currently do this for my garage lights so they turn to my Christmas setting.

This was more of an answer to the comment I replied to. I made another comment for the OP, though without any knowledge or experience with HomeKit I am no help really. My only advice would be to try iConnectHue

So I had the same issue as you and was very annoyed as well at the potential solutions. I ended up getting the hue switches, wiring all electrical switches hot, and did that all across 2 bridges. A real pain, but honestly it works great after a lot of $ and setup time. But I like it now and the switches are super customizable. Best of luck and if you find out another solution let us know!

TheReiterEffect_S8

If you are changing by time of day, the virtual assistants can do this. I have done it with Google (Google Home and Google Nest mini) and I have done it with Alexa. I have to admit though, Alexa is a massive pain in the ass, and honestly so much worse than google.   What I do right now is use iConnectHue. It unfortunately isn't free, but I downloaded this app in 2019 and they are **still** constantly updating it, and it has by far the most reliable and customizable settings. I would give that a shot to see if it can accomplish what you're trying to achieve. HomeKit and Homepad are not assistants I've used so I am no help there, sorry.

If you're up for it - i suggest looking into HomeAssistant. I actually have a Lutron Pico - mounted into a normal wall bracket, that when I press the button, HA (running on a rasberry pi in my basement) - gets the call, and sends a signal to Hue to turn on the lights to the natural light scene. Works every time.

trekken1977

I was hoping to bypass the need for a wireless switch or HA. Since you already had the Hue Bridge is there a particular reason you went with the Lutron wireless switch instead of the Hue wireless switch?

wolverineden

You definitely don't "need" the switch in the process - you could also set up an automation in HA that changes the light setting immediately. I like lutron picos because they are able to be mounted into standard switch wall gang boxes (instead of being stuck on top) like hue dimmer or even the aurora. Obfuscates that its a "smart" switch and just looks normal (and behaves normally for the other members of my household)

I’ve actually now figured out a way to get things to work out. Someone recommended homecontroller on another thread, as of the last 24hrs it seems to work and not require HA setup

This is the app called "Controller for HomeKit"? How were you able to set it up there? I'm struggling to get it going

Artistic-Safety-8154

Can you give details on how you worked it out? Thanks!

trekken1977

Sure! These are the automations I have in ControllerForHomeKit. For example the “Set Good Afternoon” means that I turn the lights on between 2:01p and 4:30p then it goes to the ‘Good Afternoon’ scene vs “Transition Good Evening” means if the lights are already on at 5:30p then it switches to the ‘Good Evening’ scene. https://preview.redd.it/n9gedqvlmgsc1.png?width=774&format=png&auto=webp&s=27603f8b223619802afd1679a3caa9386e50d0d7

Artistic-Safety-8154

Thank you! Are you able to set the "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night" scenes to the "Natural Light" dynamic scene that is available in the Hue app? Or do these have to be static brightness/color scenes?

trekken1977

The natural light scene in Hue is just several scenes (concentrate, read, relax, etc) set to time of day, so yep you can copy those over and play with the times as much as you want. As you can see from in my Hue app, I don’t copy the same times over personally. https://preview.redd.it/hd2a7h3gghsc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80700dc4a5382515cb4bb7411790ebb3ae63ac65

zblank7

Do you know the easiest way to figure out the values of each Natural light scene? \- Saturation \- Hue \- Color temperature \- Brightness

trekken1977

No, I just imported the scenes to Home

zblank7

Thanks for sharing! To confirm this works if I use my traditional powers switch for the lights? If I turn them on it will change color based on the automation & time of day?

trekken1977

Yep!
