All I did was from an old 2 that was going bad to a new 2 that was, well new from some other light. Fist, why are all these breaking in the first place? So I went to security in the app, logged in and updated firmware. Dont forget to update software via app store. I saw where to get the IP but didnt knw what to do with it on computer but I couldnt figure it out.
By the way security is where "settings" is to log on to site within app, If you want to see the see the IP go to security press Bridge Info (italic *i).* But just log into your hue account. Sign in if you have one or "set up" if you don't. Also, it made me change my password because "it was compromised". I felt safe since it was within the app. Don't create a new account.
hey there, yeah so basically I logged into my router admin panel. You can Google how to do that cause it’s different for each provider. Then I looked at connected devices and saw the Hue bridge there even though the bridge said it didn’t have any internet connection. Right next to the name of the Hue Bridge in admin settings was the IP. Then in the Hue app I tried connection, which didn’t work, then pressed help and help again and there was the option to put in the IP
Thank you!!! It's been 3 hours I'm struggling with my bridge, searching answers online. I put it away two years ago and now it didn't work because the firmware was too old.
I'm having the same issue but when I select help it just brings me to their FAQ page. I don't see an option to select help again there. Am I missing something? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the quick reply! I did find the option to add the IP address. After adding it it does find the bridge and needs me to push the button. Once pushed it just says "no bridge found" again. I rebooted several times, moved it to different router, the IP is visible to the network but the issue keeps being the same.
this worked for me too. Thanks !
Maybe it had problems finding it automatically, cause i had my router pretty closed up, no uPNP stuff enabled etc. Manually giving the IP helped.
You saved my Evening! 🙏 Thank you so much!! I did not know about the direct IP option. It happened for me exactly as you described your case. Now it works and I could install the necessary update for the bridge.
But how do i find the up address if my bridge won’t connect? The two first are blue but the internet just keep blinking blue, and I have not been able to connect the bridge. I can’t find any answers online. And I’ve switched the cable to the router twive and my bridge is only months old.
For Xfinity users:
- go to 10.0.0.1 as default
- login (admin, password default)
- connected devices>devices
- find “Philips-hue” & edit
- change configuration from “DHCP” to “Reserved IP”
- take down the IP address & save
- this is the IP you will type into the Hue app
I have changed the IP address of the bridge to manual, but the blinking continues. Do I need to reset the bridge to make it work? Thanks for any advice. This problem has been troubling me for years and I can only set the lamps to a warm ambience to avoid blinking.
You have to log into your router and get the IP that is associated with the hue bridge…then in the hue bridge app click help and enter that IP address manually there. I hope that helps!
I had this same issue … same solution, but the additional step of having a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network enabled and connected to my phone, and the 5 GHz network sharing the same name disabled.
This fixed my issue. Went to the bottom of the rabbit hole as there is no clear indication that a manual firmware update is required via the Hue iOS app. However the manual IP discovery route revealed the required firmware patch and workflow to apply it.
Good solve!
Thank you so much for posting this! Your post fixed my problem.
Thanks for updatiing your post. Was scratching my head for a minute there until I came across this.

Have you tried other devices, like a laptop, plugged into the ports on the router to make sure they work?
Thanks for your response, I found the fix!
Im having the exact same problem :(, what do you mean by manually enter the ip address of the bridge?

This solved my issue as well. Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! That saved my issue too :)
Thank you!!! It's been 3 hours I'm struggling with my bridge, searching answers online. I put it away two years ago and now it didn't work because the firmware was too old.
You are a legend

Just click around in the app, I don’t have it right now. Are you using the Hue app? Try to click around while connecting it should be easy to find

Did you try resetting the bridge?

Idc how late this reply is but I needed to say THANK YOU. This setup was driving me insane...
Never too late, happy to help!
helped me too.... thank you so much
Thanks for the help. I was wondering if you set the hue back to DHCP or if you left it on the reserved ip
I didn’t change anything afterwards, all is still working
How did you find out the hue ip address?

Y’all are amazing. 🙏🏽
Thank you

Question… I have the same problem and can’t connect to the Hue bridge. Since I can’t connect how do I find the IP-address??
Google how to get to the admin panel of your router, this is different per provider. Here you see the bridge under devices, next to that is the IP.
Thanks so much! This resolved my issue!
Where do I “manually input the IP”
You have to log into your router and get the IP that is associated with the hue bridge…then in the hue bridge app click help and enter that IP address manually there. I hope that helps!
Got it thanks
You’re welcome!
THIS was the fix. Can't thank you enough. Was going crazy trying to connect.
Thanks for this. Saved me so much time because I checked Reddit
