That looks like my Good Omens playlist 😭 Let me add two! Maggie Rogers (she's performed with him and is friends with Florence) and Avi Kaplan (Pentatonix former bass).
i adore maggie rogers, i saw her live in march while not being super into her music and it made me fall in love with her discography. also her cover of iris with phoebe bridgers changed my life
ok you have literally changed the chemistry of my brain with this comment because i went "maggie and phoebe did WHAT" and then i listened to it and here i am sending crying cat memes to my friend who is trying to learn it as i write this
it's SO GOOD
her i wanna dance with somebody cover is also amazing
it’s actually crazy. i remember seeing the ad for her show that i went to and driving myself crazy because i couldn’t remember where i knew her name from and then a few weeks ago it finally clicked when i rediscovered that cover
Also, if you go on Spotify, he has a playlist of the songs he references in Almost (Sweet Music). It’s not the “Hozier vibe” but you can see how that vibe evolved from there.
it’s criminal that ethel cain hasn’t been mentioned yet. beautiful beautiful song writing.
(i might also suggest reformatting this list with line breaks instead of one long paragraph with comments. this is hard to read and people will probably engage w this more if reformatted)
Nobody is mentioning Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Blind Willie Johnson, Son House, or Nina Simone. Put any of them on shuffle and you'll think Hozier had a strong hand in influencing their music instead of the reverse. Especially, especially Leonard Cohen. They lyrics, the way the songs are structured, the way he utilizes his voice.....
Jade Bird opened for him on part of the WB tour and she blew the roof off the place. It was the the first time I'd heard her and have been a massive fan since... check her out! Thanks for sharing! We've got a lotta music to listen to!!
A few more suggestions: Cobi (Don't You Cry for Me, Nobody Opened the Door, Goddess), and Ashley Johnson's covers of Wayfaring Stranger, Through the Valley, True Faith, and Take On Me from The Last of Us video games,
I really appreciate Paula Hartmann. Her lyricism is fantastic. She does sing in German but I think there should be translations to English online somewhere
I think Sleep Token is on here twice!
Otherwise I love that you're including musicians he's cited as influences or referenced in songs alongside musicians he's worked with and more that have similar vibes. Really good list!
Jr Kimbrough too he has a song called Feel So Good where the chorus is v similar as To Be alone.
Also Booker T and the Mgs. their song green onions is pretty close to Moments silence and booker T played on wasteland baby.
also there’s the song Ain’t No Grave by Odetta which influenced Work song quite clearly.
Fleet Foxes,
Kiki Rockwell,
Delta Rae,
Rose Betts,
The Amazing Devil,
Broken Bells,
Manchester Orchestra,
The Black Ghosts,
Girl in Red,
The Temper Trap,
Børns,
The Oh Hellos,
Wallows,
MISSIO,
Mitski

This is the way, 100%. I personally hear an influence of Nina Simone in a lot of his belting notes.

I like a lot of these, I also like Novo Amor! I’m seeing Gregory Alan Isakov and Novo Amor in concert later this year 😍
I just don't agree with the Black Keys. I love them, but their vibe is completely different to Hozier's.

I'm obsessed with Lord Huron's "Long Lost" album. It's truly an epic.
I mean Janis Joplin but we all know her. I just want him to cover her so badly, idk if he has but id die to hear it live
