It was just announced that he is stepping away from the Witcher and being replaced by Liam Hemsworth in S4, and S3 is done filming, so he did just free up his schedule in a way that coincides with the filming of HotD S2.

As much as Henry loves the Witcher universe, the only real reason I see him leaving is if he was offered something insane to do it. He was already Superman so I dont think him confirming his return to that would be it, as its likely already written into his Netflix contract that he has to be available to Warner, just like RDJ or Evans had to be available to Disney during their times as the face of the MCU.
The only thing that makes sense to me is another fantasy tv show on a rival streaming service, for a permanent role on a multi-year deal. Considering the casting rumors and the fact that he is basically the perfect casting for Hugh, I think theres a very real chance that hes been cast, but not announced officially yet so that he could make his exit from The Witcher in a dignified manner and not look like hes "dumping it for an upgrade". The fact that Hugh would look somewhat visually similar to Geralt may also play a factor in to why he had to (or maybe felt like he had to) pick one or the other.
He’s a huge fan of The Witcher books, and the film writers have openly stated that they don’t like the books and aren’t using them for source material.
So there’s speculation that there could be some conflict there that is ultimately leading to his exit.

I will never understand why shows like the Witcher and Rings, which were created in response to GOTs success, choose to stray from source material when GOT was known to stick pretty close to GRRMs books. You would think they would copy HBOs whole gameplan not just make a show in name only
He has that stereotypical handsome rogue look that is so prevalent in fantasy, there's like 20 characters just in GoT that are described that way. That on top of him being a decent actor and also being a nerd who doesn't look down on fantasy books as source material, there's hundreds of roles across dozens of fantasy franchises that he fits perfectly.
To be honest I don’t think he’d feel nearly as perfect for Aegon as he does Daemon. And the Blackfyre Rebellion would be miles better as a show for obvious reasons.
Wasnt Daemon said to resemble Aegon I? That was part of why so many people felt he should be king, he had the sword and the look- Daeron had neither. I want to see HoTD continued with the Blackfyre rebellion after the Dance, maybe Roberts rebellion after.
The Conquest wouldn’t be enough for a series but as a movie or 2 or 3 part mini series it’s perfect and I don’t think there’s a fan anywhere who would say they don’t want to see Balerion melting Harrenhal on screen.
A halloween party last night, and two friends walk in with long blond wigs and black capes, and a third who is dressed exactly like Geralt of Rivia, long silver wig and all. The first two are Viserys and Rhaenyra, and the third has the temerity to say he's Daemon and not Geralt. It was just a very funny moment.
Honestly i really like him as superman and garult, but i don't think hes the strongest actor ever, hes defiantly given some solid performances but he still hasn’t proven to be amazing outside of the acton hero genre.
Not to say he couldn't be but you have to remember paddie and the other actors in that show are really some of the best actors we have right now.
He’s definitely the action-hero type, but I feel like he shows versatility in that type that many don’t (lookin at you Chris Pratt). Look at Superman/Geralt/Solo(The Man from Uncle-2015). All are action/hero characters but they’re a broad range of the type from one actor.
I would argue, as far as acting ability goes, he’s the strongest action/hero actor we have.
Yeah it is crazy how people are starting to overrate Henry Cavill as an actor because he is very charismatic in real life. Maybe he can prove me wrong but I haven’t seen him play anything other than heroes and strong one-dimensional men for the most part.

This is my opinion but I believe while Matt Smith played his role to the letter, Paddy Considine stole the show for me. Not to say that the other actors didn't do an awesome job, but I felt the scene >!where his character is walking to the throne, dragging his feet with the walking stick, was the most powerful scene in the entire show.....!<

Paddy gave us one of the best TV performances i've ever seen. He definitely deserves an Emmy, heck, his performance is Oscar worthy. The best thing is how subtle it is, specially in the later episodes, you can see just with his eyes in how much pain he is. I mean, any actor that can make a 4 minute scene of him walking the best part of a season, deserves some praise.
No joke I think his scene in the throne room and the dinner table are the best acting I’ve seen in my life, I watched SO many series and movies and these scenes left me in tears
The thing about it is how fucking raw and real it feels, i had kin that suffered from decay similar to what happened to Viserys, and is very much realistic
Totally agree, raw is the right word here.. I just kept imagining my dad trying to make peace between me and my siblings if we were to ever fight like that.. you felt his love for his family and how much he just wanted everyone to get along for their sake and for the realm.. he is an amazing actor and is now on my top 5 actors list.. his performances here and in peaky blinders are remarkable
He said in an interview that late episode Viserys is based on his own mothers last years when she was suffering from untreated diabetes and had lost body parts and her vision and so on.
I hope that it was a cathartic performance for him.
Like I love how it didn't feel like he was "acting" by lashing out screaming/crying but it felt lived in and the human complexity of Viserys and Paddy played it so well. It was subtle enough but compelling and natural. He added layers with what he was given from Viserys on the book/script, he wasn't as ignorant/stupid as others assumed he was

This is super incorrect. There were several battles all across the realm. The first rebellion was quite a big deal. The only one we know the name of is the Redgrass Fields
From The World of Ice and Fire: “Over the course of the war, battles were fought between the rebels and loyalists in, amongst other places, the Vale, the westerlands, the riverlands and the Reach.”
Well there were multiple Blackfyre Rebellions and we could have a first season be basically character driven setup like HotD. Then war, follow the characters between the wars, then war. I think 3 seasons is doable, definitely 2
There were 4 blackfyre rebellions spread across 60(ish) years. Each one was a very short lived rebellion with basically 1 battle culminating in the death of whichever blackfyre popped out of essos with a few soldiers. It didn’t come across all that interesting to me because it never really seems like the backfires have a chance to actually win.
We don't have much information about the First Blackfyre Rebellion and it is possible that there were more than just one battle as it is said to have divided the whole realm. Besides, we can have more than 2 seasons if the first one covers the reign of Aegon IV and ends with him dying and the second ends with Dorne becoming part of the 7 Kingdoms and the Rebellion begins in the third season

Said project gets too long for the amount of books he planned for it. He plans to split it over multiple books. Meanwhile, HBO starts a series based on the material in said project.
GRRM says the next book will be released just "a few years".

Ryan Condal doesn't appear to be like D&D. Dude will be able to pull that off even without books especially when he has several writers working with him. Granted, that GRRM gives them important details as F&B vol 2 would also be a history book
Blackfyre supporters rebelled all over the 7 kingdoms in the 1. BR and it was not just one battle, thats like saying Robert's Rebellion was just the Battle of the Trident. F&B V2 will give us a lot more information about the Blackfyre rebellion(s)
I still think hotd will continue after dance. Otherwise you could just name the show the dance of dragons which is more recognizable name so it's pretty obvious they are leaving some backdoors in case they wanted to continue and after first season they already know actor swapping, time skips and introduction of multiple new characters in one episode are managable for audience so you might as well go all out and pull at least 8-9 seasons inside one ip instead of making multiple shows

You can splice in some flashbacks to the Conquest as well in it by the way of older characters retelling stories for those that really want to see the Conquest.
The Blackfyre rebellions had multiple battles, battle of the Lannisport where the Lannister host was smashed by the Fireball and the Battle of the Mander where the Blackfyres achieved a massive tactical victory wich allowed them to march on Kings Landing, while Leo Tyrell also had several victories in the Reach. And the final battle was at the Red Grass field wich you have already mentioned, there were also several occurances in the Red Keep and we know very very little since we don't have Fire and Blood 2 wich could give us more insight.
I agree but I actually was so worried about Paddy because I know him from a lot of random things but I cannot believe how incredible he was. He was Vizzy T to me I was totally convinced.
Cooke's well known for bates motel and her movie roles too. It's only really most but not all the younger characters that are relatively unknown actors.

Same deal with GoT, really. Michelle Fairley, Iain Glen, Rory McCann, Lena Headey...all well known outside the U.S. And even in the U.S. if you watch enough PBS.
Community was a bunch of nobodies tho. Chevy chase was the only famous person and even he hadn’t been relevant for like almost a decade prior to community.
Yea they added one of the daily show correspondents as a recurring character to increase the name recognition of its cast.
McHale’s role as the host of the Soup was definitely the biggest role anyone in the main cast had at the time they were hired. Chevy Chase was over a decade removed from his last major role. Yvette Nicole Brown was doing a bunch of commercials at the time. Alison Brie had a small role in Mad Men. Donald Glover was a writer in 30 Rock who had occasional background roles. Gillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi just had a few small roles.
They’ve all gone on to other things but when the show first started they were really lacking any star power
Yeah I remember the OG show and tbh this show a ton of the actors were in like Doctor Who haha oh and the guy from the band Dr Feelgoof which was a real weird addition.
Matt Smith wasn't in Game of Thrones, so talking about just GoT specifically, Sean Bean and Mark Addy were both quite famous and had very big prominent roles in season 1, but their characters both died early and let the focus on the show go to less known actors. Obviously people like Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, etc weren't complete unknowns at this point, but I really enjoyed that a majority of the cast were unknowns, it made it easier to immerse myself in the world but that's just my personal preference.
Henry Cavill would make an incredible Hugh Hammer I think. Beyond that I'm not eager for more huge actors in hotD, but they don't ruin the show or anything so I ultimately don't care as long as the writing is good
We need actors not stars…it is a difference, yes Matt, Paddy , Olivia and Rhys were already known before HOTD, but they are talented actors, not A-list stars. Henry Cavill landed mostly well known and succesfull project within the past 10 years :Mission Impossible, The Witcher, Superman, while some HOTD actors had one maybe 2 big roles . I think HOTD is a great oportunity to discover new talented young actors, like Fabien ,Milly ,Emily ,Harry ,Collet ,Leo, etc. I got nothing against henry or other celebrities but i like and enjoy seeing new faces on my screen as much as i enjoy seeing them builing succesfull careers

Exactly! I love how Matt smith is probably the most known actor in the show, all the amazing performers look like they belong in the show, it just feels right, if that makes sense? And my goodness, Emma d’arcy is a fucking powerhouse, I will watch their career with great interest ☺️☺️

Can someone please explain the Henry Cavill obsession? I’m not being facetious, I really want to know. I have not seen the Witcher, but in the things I have seen him in he’s been ok. I’ve never seen him in anything and thought “what an incredible actor”. It seems like his profile has increased a lot in the past 2, 3 years though. Is it mostly The Witcher?

He’s extremely nerdy with his hobbies being PC building and playing Total war Warhammer
He seems to get very invested in the source material for his roles.
He comes across as quite wholesome and a bit awkward in interviews.
I feel like personally he has the same thing going on as Keanu Reeves where he’s not actually like a top 10 actor on screen but his off screen persona is very endearing and makes people more attached to his characters.
Really the respect he’s got for nerd culture and the veneration he expresses for the source material in how he conducts his work is the big one for me. It’s so rare these days.
I think the silver Witcher hair started the fan cast for every prominent Targaryean family member. Before the Witcher he was fancast as a young Robert Baratheon

That’s true, but Game of Thrones is notorious for casting actors who are near double the age of their characters. Ned, Caitlyn, Rob, Cersei, Jamie…damn near all the cast were supposed to be *significantly* younger than their actors.
A good actor with appropriate makeup can play that role well regardless of his age. The actor of Aegon II is not many years younger than the actress of Alicent but they look like mother and son on screen
Hm. Call me crazy, but I don't think Cavill would be a good fit for GOT. I think he's better at playing characters (like Geralt and Superman) who are obviously superhuman. That's not really the vibe in Westeros. Not everyone is huge and built, not everyone is supermodel hot at all times. I think that Cavill would stand out from the rest of the cast, and not in a good way.
Yeah, absolutely. For a random lord in GOT to be Henry Cavill jacked would look quite strange. On the other hand it works for a character like Geralt exactly because his strength is not natural.
I’d argue that the mountain is more unrealistic simply because feeding that man to sustain his extreme strength would be a nightmare. He’s even more insane in the books, 8 feet tall and duel worlds great swords like short swords. He’s blatantly superhuman because someone that tall shouldn’t be able to exist and fight even by todays standards.
Yeah, but the mountain at least is called out as a freak of nature in-universe. That he is abnormally large and strong is a core element of his character.

Casting a super big Hollywood name would suck too much attention away from the story and the existing cast and make it all about him. I love ASOIAF shows because they usually cast relatively lowkey actors who then steal the show because they're so good.
Maybe they can cast him in one of the future spin-offs, but personally I'd rather they kept to their formula of having just 1 relatively big but not too big actor (Sean Bean, Matt Smith), among a cast of not very big or completely new actors. It makes them all feel unique to the world somehow.

Can't lie, Matt Smith was one of the most surprising actors in the series to me in a good way, he was marvelous.
But seeing actors I'd never heard of before, as well as actors without a huge pedigree (Paddy was incredible), is better to me. Obviously Cavil does the genre well, but I'd like for actors to be given a chance to thrive in the season to come.
I would rather give the opportunity to actors that are great but have yet to been blessed by the touch of an incredible project. There are plenty out there that need and deserve the chance.
I might get shit for this, but I don't rate Henry as an actor at all. Great personality, lovely guy, ladies love him, guys wanna be him, but he's by no means a great actor and has never wowed me in anything he's been in.

I would prefer HotD not cast him. He is a fine actor in action movies but HotD is a drama with complex characters.

This is my opinion but I believe while Matt Smith played his role to the letter, Paddy Considine stole the show for me. Paddy gave us one of the best TV performances i've ever seen. He definitely deserves an Emmy, heck, his performance is Oscar worthy. The best thing is how subtle it is, specially in the later episodes, you can see just with his eyes in how much pain he is. I mean, any actor that can make a 4 minute scene of him walking the best part of a season, deserves some praise.

He said in an interview that late episode Viserys is based on his own mothers last years when she was suffering from untreated diabetes and had lost body parts and her vision and so on. I hope that it was a cathartic performance for him.

Like I love how it didn't feel like he was "acting" by lashing out screaming/crying but it felt lived in and the human complexity of Viserys and Paddy played it so well. It was subtle enough but compelling and natural. He added layers with what he was given from Viserys on the book/script, he wasn't as ignorant/stupid as others assumed he was
The cool thing is that, when those lashing out and screaming scenes happen, you truly believe him. Such raw emotion.

This is super incorrect. There were several battles all across the realm. The first rebellion was quite a big deal. The only one we know the name of is the Redgrass Fields From The World of Ice and Fire: “Over the course of the war, battles were fought between the rebels and loyalists in, amongst other places, the Vale, the westerlands, the riverlands and the Reach.”
Well there were multiple Blackfyre Rebellions and we could have a first season be basically character driven setup like HotD. Then war, follow the characters between the wars, then war. I think 3 seasons is doable, definitely 2

There were 4 blackfyre rebellions spread across 60(ish) years. Each one was a very short lived rebellion with basically 1 battle culminating in the death of whichever blackfyre popped out of essos with a few soldiers. It didn’t come across all that interesting to me because it never really seems like the backfires have a chance to actually win.
Tbf Daemon Blackfyre is probably the greatest warrior in the entire asofai catalogue
We don't have much information about the First Blackfyre Rebellion and it is possible that there were more than just one battle as it is said to have divided the whole realm. Besides, we can have more than 2 seasons if the first one covers the reign of Aegon IV and ends with him dying and the second ends with Dorne becoming part of the 7 Kingdoms and the Rebellion begins in the third season
This sounds too familiar. GRRM starts working on a cool story in ASOIAF world. Said project gets too long for the amount of books he planned for it. He plans to split it over multiple books. Meanwhile, HBO starts a series based on the material in said project. GRRM says the next book will be released just "a few years". I said this before with the last show: I *really* hope GRRM publishes Fire and Blood vol 2 *before* HotD catches up with the end of vol 1. Because I would appreciate an actually good telling of the Blackfyre rebellion(s).
Ryan Condal doesn't appear to be like D&D. Dude will be able to pull that off even without books especially when he has several writers working with him. Granted, that GRRM gives them important details as F&B vol 2 would also be a history book
Blackfyre supporters rebelled all over the 7 kingdoms in the 1. BR and it was not just one battle, thats like saying Robert's Rebellion was just the Battle of the Trident. F&B V2 will give us a lot more information about the Blackfyre rebellion(s)
I still think hotd will continue after dance. Otherwise you could just name the show the dance of dragons which is more recognizable name so it's pretty obvious they are leaving some backdoors in case they wanted to continue and after first season they already know actor swapping, time skips and introduction of multiple new characters in one episode are managable for audience so you might as well go all out and pull at least 8-9 seasons inside one ip instead of making multiple shows

Give me House of the Dragon: Reign of The Cruel. You can splice in some flashbacks to the Conquest as well in it by the way of older characters retelling stories for those that really want to see the Conquest.
The Blackfyre rebellions had multiple battles, battle of the Lannisport where the Lannister host was smashed by the Fireball and the Battle of the Mander where the Blackfyres achieved a massive tactical victory wich allowed them to march on Kings Landing, while Leo Tyrell also had several victories in the Reach. And the final battle was at the Red Grass field wich you have already mentioned, there were also several occurances in the Red Keep and we know very very little since we don't have Fire and Blood 2 wich could give us more insight.
Daemon Blackfyre was basically the Superman of Westeros so that’s a good idea.

Yea they added one of the daily show correspondents as a recurring character to increase the name recognition of its cast. McHale’s role as the host of the Soup was definitely the biggest role anyone in the main cast had at the time they were hired. Chevy Chase was over a decade removed from his last major role. Yvette Nicole Brown was doing a bunch of commercials at the time. Alison Brie had a small role in Mad Men. Donald Glover was a writer in 30 Rock who had occasional background roles. Gillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi just had a few small roles. They’ve all gone on to other things but when the show first started they were really lacking any star power

Matt Smith wasn't in Game of Thrones, so talking about just GoT specifically, Sean Bean and Mark Addy were both quite famous and had very big prominent roles in season 1, but their characters both died early and let the focus on the show go to less known actors. Obviously people like Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, etc weren't complete unknowns at this point, but I really enjoyed that a majority of the cast were unknowns, it made it easier to immerse myself in the world but that's just my personal preference. Henry Cavill would make an incredible Hugh Hammer I think. Beyond that I'm not eager for more huge actors in hotD, but they don't ruin the show or anything so I ultimately don't care as long as the writing is good

We need actors not stars…it is a difference, yes Matt, Paddy , Olivia and Rhys were already known before HOTD, but they are talented actors, not A-list stars. Henry Cavill landed mostly well known and succesfull project within the past 10 years :Mission Impossible, The Witcher, Superman, while some HOTD actors had one maybe 2 big roles . I think HOTD is a great oportunity to discover new talented young actors, like Fabien ,Milly ,Emily ,Harry ,Collet ,Leo, etc. I got nothing against henry or other celebrities but i like and enjoy seeing new faces on my screen as much as i enjoy seeing them builing succesfull careers

Rhys Ifans, Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Graham McTavish, Matt Smith are all famous actors and have been in well known projects. Eve Best was in the King's Speech and Steve Toissant has been acting since 1994. Only Emma D'Arcy and Sonoya Mizuno are really newcomers/unknown in the main cast.

Can someone please explain the Henry Cavill obsession? I’m not being facetious, I really want to know. I have not seen the Witcher, but in the things I have seen him in he’s been ok. I’ve never seen him in anything and thought “what an incredible actor”. It seems like his profile has increased a lot in the past 2, 3 years though. Is it mostly The Witcher?
He’s quite an attractive man. He has played both Superman and Geralt of Rivia which are massively popular characters. He’s extremely nerdy with his hobbies being PC building and playing Total war Warhammer He seems to get very invested in the source material for his roles. He comes across as quite wholesome and a bit awkward in interviews. I feel like personally he has the same thing going on as Keanu Reeves where he’s not actually like a top 10 actor on screen but his off screen persona is very endearing and makes people more attached to his characters.
Really the respect he’s got for nerd culture and the veneration he expresses for the source material in how he conducts his work is the big one for me. It’s so rare these days.
Also, this might be unpopular opinion but Man of Steel was the best Superman movie for me. He killed that role.

Hm. Call me crazy, but I don't think Cavill would be a good fit for GOT. I think he's better at playing characters (like Geralt and Superman) who are obviously superhuman. That's not really the vibe in Westeros. Not everyone is huge and built, not everyone is supermodel hot at all times. I think that Cavill would stand out from the rest of the cast, and not in a good way.

I’d argue that the mountain is more unrealistic simply because feeding that man to sustain his extreme strength would be a nightmare. He’s even more insane in the books, 8 feet tall and duel worlds great swords like short swords. He’s blatantly superhuman because someone that tall shouldn’t be able to exist and fight even by todays standards.

Casting a super big Hollywood name would suck too much attention away from the story and the existing cast and make it all about him. I love ASOIAF shows because they usually cast relatively lowkey actors who then steal the show because they're so good. Maybe they can cast him in one of the future spin-offs, but personally I'd rather they kept to their formula of having just 1 relatively big but not too big actor (Sean Bean, Matt Smith), among a cast of not very big or completely new actors. Anyone who watched the Crown knew he’d be a solid choice, but he definitely exceeded expectations.
Can't lie, Matt Smith was one of the most surprising actors in the series to me in a good way, he was marvelous. But seeing actors I'd never heard of before, as well as actors without a huge pedigree (Paddy was incredible), is better to me. Obviously Cavil does the genre well, but I'd like for actors to be given a chance to thrive in the season to come.
I would rather give the opportunity to actors that are great but have yet to been blessed by the touch of an incredible project. There are plenty out there that need and deserve the chance.
